Final Pitch
Prior to the final presentation, we all agreed to meet up about 2 hours prior to the workshop in order to go for a final rundown of the pitch. We were also supposed to have written each of our "speeches" in note points in the Google Docs that was set up.
However, only Isaac and I showed up to it and we were also the only ones who had typed out our sections into the Google docs. This meant that we couldn't get a practice run of the speech and although everyone seemed to know their individual part, we didn't know much in terms of the duration and also the flow of the actual presentation. We also didn't know if there was any repeat on the information being said by two people. Alex had only added her speech in the morning of the pitch and Mark and Ben didn't add their sections at all (I added brief notes about their speeches after the presentation). We also added a bit of notes on Andy's section but it overlapped a lot and he didn't really follow any real sort of structure. It didn't really seem as though he had much of a direction as to what his role was but we weren't really able to assist him with it because he said that he did understand the role.
During the actual pitch, it flowed very well and we covered all the information that we had outlined. However, at the very beginning of the presentation, our first speaker Andy began to address the information that Isaac was meant to cover for his section. This then caused an overlap of the information as Isaac then had to improvise to try and make it different. The remainder of the presentation went well though.
After the presentation, we received some feedback from the tutors. The first thing that was addressed was the overlap on information (Andy-Isaac). The next issue was that we had gone over the time limit. This occurred as we had not had a practice run of the presentation at all as no one showed up before the workshop. We were advised that there was good interaction between the "stakeholders" and that the concept of the scenario was well done. I was also told that I "spoke very well" by Glen. He didn't really elaborate on this so I'm not really sure what to take from this...
This is the design Poster that was created. The majority of this poster was created by Isaac which I was able to help out with as well. The content consists of:
description of the project
the problems of the program
and solutions to address the said problems
there is also a video of a news story addressing the issues on a financial level as well as other aspects
for interactivity, there is a map of the current bike routes throughout the city district.
As mentioned earlier, this poster was mainly put together by Isaac with a bit of contribution from myself. Although we had sufficiently notified the other members in the group, there was minimal communication between the other members and we could not coordinate well with each other.
There were also a few discrepancies between some of the information as to the format of the poster which we weren't able to clear up until the final week however, there was still sufficient time to create a good poster.
The extra meetings and workshop minutes and progress.
My Speech in note form
My name is John.
I used to be an avid user of the CityCycle when I moved to Fortitude Valley.
was very useful as there were many stations located at several locations, and its healthy
it was also an easy way to get to uni easily
however, it was inconvenient at times as if there were no slots at the station, it was inconvenient to ride around to try and find available slots.
the number of slots are not determined by their use
its easier to catch the train and take the free shuttle
if it was more convenient by making the number of slots dependent on the usage
more slots at QUT for student use/more stations near the campus, I would start using it again.
Allocated individual Roles for the Role-play as per the user interviews that were conducted.
Pains, Gains and Wants analysis from my specific user story. This part covers the "Empathy" section of design thinking as to better understand with what features/changes they like/dislike/want from the user's perspective so that we can address it in the proposed solution.
Problems and Solutions which relate to my specific user (student who is an ex-user of the City Cycle) This covers the more specific details of the issue (Convergence).
Brain-storming as a group of possible problems and solutions to those problems relating to the City Cycle program as a whole. This section covers the problem on a wider scale (Divergence). We also realised that this was not an issue that can be fixed with one solution but rather a variety of different solutions to address several individual issues.
We then decided that rather than tackling several minor issues and implementing several individual solutions, it would be more practical and more "innovative" to re-design the whole project as this would essentially provide a "clean slate" to what many believe is a massive failure. It would also provide the opportunity to build a better reputation and be more marketable than the current system.
We then went out and interviewed a stakeholder in order to find out why they do/don't use the city cycle. I spoke to a student who was an initial user of the city cycle but then stopped using it because of pricing/convenience factors (name changed from the actual person).
Initial problems - very, very basic
DC 3 - City Cycle
Selected City Cycle as topic for DC 3 as we all related to this more so than the Community Gardens or O-Week Topics.
DC 2 Reflection
Compiled all information together and created presentation slides (Timekeeper presentation.pptx - link below). My section of the script in dot points above.
After comparing the results with other members, I created a final Prototype with all the features added/changes (including the additional Notes feature) we received from the interviews. (App Redone - V2.pptx - link below). I also went back to the interviewees with this new prototype and did another interview to make sure that the changes were appropriate.
Addition of "Notes" feature as part of the app. Basic hand-drawn design of this.
My results from the interview. I interviewed 2x 20 year olds who go to QUT as identified by the age gap.
