One of the things I think the Narnia movies do a great job of portraying is the fact that the kids aren't just pulled into Narnia when Narnia needs them. They're also pulled into Narnia when they need Narnia. They're always going through some sort of crisis in the "real" world when they get pulled in. And while this element is present in the books, I think the movies actually expand on it more in a way that emphasizes their need to learn lessons from their time there and their encounters with Aslan. Those lessons they'll eventually need to take back with them when they return home, so that they're better equipped to deal with whatever they're facing
