Forgiveness 🌸: Key to Healthy Living 💛
During the process of finding my ground and my position in life’s path, of which I call “The School of Hard Knocks Called Life 💖” where I stand in life , I lived in Miami for a while. At that house, an altercation between the owner of the house and I had occurred, and instead of telling the truth about the matter, he chose to tell lies about me to everyone.
No one believed my side of the story and no one wanted to come to understanding with me. I was hurt, I was broken, and I felt betrayed. This man had made me the black sheep of my family. I was an “embarrassment” to the family members due to this man’s actions. I had no one to talk to, there was no one I could trust. I found myself spinning a web of dark thoughts, despair, hate, malice, fear and anger.
Cut this post short, I moved out to my own apartment. But even when I was in my space, I found myself replaying the incident over and over in my head. I thought daily of this man – heck, sometimes, I had nightmares and we can all guess who was there – exactly! The man.
I woke up one night dripping bullets of sweat when the word “Forgive” came to my mind.
Forgive??!! *insert Soulja Boy meme* “How can I forgive someone who has performed such atrocities against me?” “How can I forgive someone who ruined my reputation?” “How can I...?” “How can I…?” Questions upon questions.
Some of us can relate a little bit to this scenario. Some of us have had our heart broken; a sibling lied against you; your homeboy/girl betrayed you; your co-worker or boss stole your idea and made it his. Many, many things have happened that make you want to cling to that hurt and sometimes make you want to plot your revenge against them. I am going to stop you right there and tell you the same thing – forgive. Before you bombard me with questions, or ignore the rest of the post, let me tell you why. So, read on and stick with me.
"Forgiveness is letting go of all the pain and hurt and surrendering all before God. "
Forgiveness is accepting that you have been done wrong, acknowledging the wrongdoing and letting it all go before Yahweh. Why should we forgive?
First, because Yahweh always forgives us of our wrong doings, especially when we are genuine and repentant of it.
Second, because forgiveness is in correlation to the greatest commandment “Thou must Love Yahweh; Love thy neighbor as thee loveth thyself. Matthew 22:37-39”You love yourself, so you forgive yourself (I mean come on, it is part of the self-care package).
And third, because it is a healing factor; it is key to healthy living. It is a great way to give yourself emotional, mental and spiritual balance.
This is because, with forgiveness comes free will.
When we forgive, we relieve ourself of every negative feeling that we could have been harboring within. When we forgive, we let in the Holy Spirit into our hearts and mind – in retrospect, that is the only spirit we need to be dealing with. With the Holy Spirit comes The Body of Christ where we begin to experience Free Will because we are Believers in The Almighty.
Free will relieves the spirit and soul from emotional depressions and angst and this create room for the healing we so desperately crave for.
And then we can effortlessly begin to live in the love of Christ. The love just as described in 1st John 4- 7-14 and 1st Corinthians 13:4-7.
"Forgive, because it is the right thing to do."
When we forgive, we surrender whatever diabolical plan we could have been thinking, every hate, every misery, every confusion, every hurt, every regret, every anger, every grinding of the teeth, every irrelevant thing, to Yahweh asking Him to take control of the situation. In some cases, we like to call it karma.
When we surrender all these negatives to karma, oops… I mean Yahweh, we can focus fully on ourselves, mindset and stay motivated on the need to move on. We learn how to love ourselves and how to treat ourselves better.
We (and Yahweh) become the main focus of our lives because from that moment of surrender, healing comes. *hint*hint* the care package*.
To heal appropriately, we would need Yahweh. To teach us to love despite the pain, we would need Yahweh. To help us be happy, we would need Yahweh.
"Forgiveness is the kit for the self-care package."
How many times did Jesus tell us to forgive? “70 * 7 times.”
This does not that we are to count the number of times an individual hurt us, instead, we just keep forgiving regardless of the number of times we have been offended. People are going to hurt us. What does not make sense is keeping count of the hurt. It is a waste of time, waste of energy, waste of resources. All the time, energy, resources can be centered on something else – you! So why not forgive?
I understand it may be impossible to let it go, I understand it may even hurt, because again, why?? But I promise you (and I am speaking to you from experience) that the joy, love, peace and happiness that follows is far greater than the hurt you were clinging unto.
There is no amount of hurt that Yahweh cannot heal. So, forgive. Forgive so that there is no barrier hindering the intimacy you have (or seek) with Yahweh. You can come to him comfortably when your heart is free of malice. If your heart is not free, settle the scores with the person, by forgiving, and then going to Yahweh. If you cannot let go, ask Yahweh to help you let go. He understands, He would see you through.
Let all the pain go, and let Yahweh take control of the situation. Forgive yourself, forgive others. Love yourself, Love others and most importantly, Love Yahweh, cherish Him dearly, so that you can learn self love - the self care package! There is nothing in the world that Yahweh cannot see you through. He loves you; He loves me, He loves the whole world.
