Girl I don't think I ever asked you this. What are your top 5 fave rucas fics/one shots. I'm in for a good read

helllo!!! firstly i apologize for taking a while to answer this, but i’m here now!! i should be completely honest and say that in the grand scheme of things, i don’t read That many rucas fics, i’ll read the occasional one shot or something that’s rec’ed to me but i don’t do much rucas fic seeking if that makes any sense?? but, i’ll give you a run down of probably my top five rucas fic authors, and hopefully that will give you some place to start!!! 

firstly, i gotta start with my girl maggie @friarlucas who has hands down some of the best characterization of both riley and lucas and just blows me away every single time. obviously my biggest recommendation for her would be her multi chaptered fic gravity on the open road, which is a clique six fic but don’t worry it’s got plenty of rucas to keep you satisfied. other fics of hers that gives me rucas feels hella are: a soft place to land, hands, if i fell (don’t run and hide) and the holiday season (basically all of her rucas fics), trust me you won’t be disappointed, like it’s impossible to be. maggie is amazing at writing rucas, truly one of the best in this fandom. 

another one of my favs!!! is andii @iriswestcllen, she has some really wonderful rucas drabbles that i absolutely love even though almost all of them cause me some kind of pain. she just has a really nice touch on the characters and all her drabbles are so so good!!! my personal fave is this one, but this one also gives me all of the feelings that i honestly just…want to die i love rucas. god andii is….so good. 

my last three favs are probably divine @rucadora who has SO MANY amazing one shots on her account like i don’t think i could pick a favorite (altho i am very very partial to her fluff fics, they’re so cute i want to die) and she also has a multi chaptered rucas fic going right now called overturn which i haven’t read yet (I WILL THO DIVINE I WILL) but i’m sure it’s absolutely amazing. ellie @martinskis also has some really really wonderful one shots, in fact her rucas one shot based on world of terror 3 (which can be found here) was one of the first rucas fics i ever read, because it was right around when i got back into fics, and it was so good!!! she has a few really cute rucas one shots that are just really well written and i absolutely love them. and lastly, i would say is @rileysluke (whose name i don’t actually know even though we’ve been mutuals for so long i’m so sorry i’m trash ajfkdaf) i absolutely adore her one shots and i remember following her because one night i just read a bunch of them and was so happy that she had so many different ones to read. i think that one that really hooked me with her is this one right here, which is just a cute lil drabble abt domestic rucas and i read it and was like OH BOY THIS IS THE GOOD SHIT, basically she has so many drabbles/one shots and i love all of them. 

i didn’t necessarily pick any fics specifically but hopefully pointing you in the direction of these authors will help you find what you’re looking for!!!

Pairings: Rucas, Joshaya  Word count: 3373 words Chapter: 14 Summary: Riley Matthews walked out of her own wedding when she realized that the man at the altar would never love her the way she deserved to be loved. Since then, she has guarded her heart. And she does it well – until the day she meets Lucas Friar. A/N: Sorry for the late update folks. I hope you enjoy this chapter.  2 months later…

“Riley, I’m going to need you not to cry because if you start crying, I’m going to start crying and then the dress – ”

“Oh my goodness, just come out already!” Smackle whines, and Riley cannot bring herself to chastise her impatience.

“Maya, I am not going to cry. I’ve seen you in that – Oh, Peaches,” Riley tears up anyway for the tenth time that day as Maya emerges from the closet. Her best friend is a vision in white as she walks towards her, and Riley grips the hand that Maya holds out. She wipes the tears from Maya’s eyes, grateful that her Aunt Morgan has not applied their make up yet.

“You look beautiful, Maya,” Smackle nods approvingly, and when the best friends just continue looking at each other, she rolls her eyes and says, “I’m going to give the both of you some privacy. Please do not run away together. Josh and Lucas will not find that amusing.”

The door closes behind her, and Riley smiles as her best friend blinks back her tears.

“I’m getting married to Joshua Matthews today,” Maya’s voice shakes as she beams, peace and excitement on her beautiful face.

“I’m afraid that your son has left me with no choice, Mr Friar,” Principal Westerly shakes his head regrettably as he takes off his glasses. He hesitates before he says his next words, as though they weigh heavily on his tongue, while he regards the three Friars on the opposite end of the table. 

Please, Lucas wants to beg but he cannot. Please, just give me one more chance. I’ll be better. I’ll control myself better. Please just don’t give up on me. 

“Lucas Friar, you are hereby expelled from this school because of your actions yesterday,” Principal Westerly speaks the words he has been dreading to hear, and Lucas’ breath hitches. “Because you put a student in harms’ way and because of the threat you pose to other students, my hands are tied.”  Beside him, his mother sniffs and Lucas looks to his father, heart sinking at the look his father shoots him. Bitterness, disappointment and anger all crosses his father’s aged face and Lucas gulps before he looked down. Shame courses through him, making his hands shake as he curls them into a tight fist. 

“Principal Westerly, please, there has to be something -”

“I’m afraid my decision is final, Annette,” Principal Westerly sighs.

Overview: In the middle of her freshman year of high school Riley Matthew’s mother gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to run her firms London Office. Much to everyone’s surprise her mother accepts the job, forcing Riley and her younger brother Auggie to leave behind everything they’ve ever known. Almost three years later the Matthew’s family moves back to New York and Riley comes to realize a lot has changed in the time she’s been gone. “Just go – your new life is waiting for you.”

After abruptly ending their video call Maya sat there, staring at the empty screen before her. She couldn’t wrap her head around what had just happened. She hardly ever got into it with Riley, they were always so good at talking through their feelings but maybe that was the problem. She didn’t know how to talk through what she was feeling because she didn’t know how to describe what she was feeling in the first place. How do you tell your best friend that you hate that they’re happy without you? It didn’t make sense to her. She loved Riley and would do anything for her but the thought of Riley thriving without her, the thought of her living her life without her seemed unfair. They were supposed to take on the world together and Riley was getting a head start.

Her phone screen lights up, notifying her that she had a text.

Riles: I don’t want to fight with you, Peaches.

She types out a long message, apologizing, admitting to being in the wrong and just as she’s about to press ‘send’ she gets an Instagram notification telling her Riley had been tagged in a photo. Closing her iMessage she opens the app, curious to see who had tagged her and what the picture was of.

It was a picture of Allison and Riley, sitting on her bed eating take out and the caption read: Reunited with my best friend.

Feeling angry and forgotten, Maya did what Maya does best and she shuts down.

Back in New York on the night of the party that upset Riley, Lucas sat on his sofa with Zay at the opposite end. It was 3pm and the two Texans were settling down to watch a baseball game whilst Riley was settling into the awkwardness of the party. 

Zay threw a handful of popcorn in the air and it rained down over him, only a few kernels actually landing in his mouth. Lucas chuckled and brushed off the bits that fell on his lap. Zay started rambling on about something but Lucas’ attention dropped out when his phone buzzed. It was an Instagram notification saying Riley was tagged in a photo.
