“Speak slower, please.  I’m running on less than an hour of sleep, and my coffee machine broke.  It is taking all of my energy to listen to you right now.”

“I know I probably shouldn’t be eating this stuff…” Korra pauses only a moment to inspect her noodles with mock seriousness because lifting her shoulder in a shrug and shoving them into her mouth. “– But it’s not like it’ll kill me, right?” ( Why yes, she was talking with her mouth full. )

“ you’ll get to eat, don’t you worry! i would never let a friend of mine go hungry. ”

“And I appreciate that.  You are a true friend.  But if it does actually fall off, I may have to consider looking into some other food options.”

“ i don’t really know? besides using it a couple times a day to get it more worn i think i just have to deal with it for some time. ” she laughed and set the pan back on the stove in front of her. “ looks like chuy will have a great time the next few weeks eating up all the food dropped on the floor. ”

Nala laughed.  “Well, at least someone gets to eat it.”

“ its nice to meet you as well! nala… that’s a beautiful name. does it mean anything? ” boo asked, thoroughly interested. there was something almost majestic about the other girl. it was something, too that had boo itching for more information about her. “ my favorite dessert is crepes with white chocolate and strawberries. its very rare to get but, when i’m lucky enough to order it, i hop onto that opportunity. what about you? ” boo touched her locket with a feather light touch. “ it has pictures of my parents inside. i think the scientists forgot to check my pockets before they let me leave the hospital because… its something they gave me. its the only real evidence i have that i came from somewhere else. ”

“Thank you.  I’m sure it does, but I’ve never looked into it.  Or at least, never that I can remember.  There are too many more important things to worry about than what my name means.”  She couldn’t help but smile at Boo’s description of the dessert.  It made her hungry just thinking about it.  “That sounds amazing.  Is there anywhere you can get it in Sandur?  Hm, if I had to pick, I think I would say coconut cheesecake.”  Her eyes softened a little when Boo talked about the necklace.  “Well, it’s beautiful.  And I’m glad you still have it.”

“ can we be best friends? i think we’re going to become best friends. at least friends, maybe the best can be added on later. ” boo giggled and, though she ached to give the other a hug, she restrained herself. “ i’m boo, by the way. well i’m mary but i like to be called boo. it’s just a nickname i’ve always had. ”

Nala smiled.  That was unexpected, but it wasn’t unwelcome.  This girl seemed nice enough, and she wasn’t one to turn down friendship when it was offered.  “I don’t see why not.  I’m Nala.  It’s nice to meet you, Boo.”  She was curious about the nickname’s origin, but decided against asking; in this Dome, the odds were that she wouldn’t remember.  Instead, she said, “So Boo, what is your favorite dessert?  And why do you always wear a certain necklace?” Since those had been the conversation starters she had offered, Nala figured they were a good place to start.

“ then why do people act like its so annoying? i just want to make friends but apparently i’m doing it all wrong. ”

“I’m sure it’s not you.  You probably just caught those people at a bad time.  And if not, well, they’re probably not the people you want to be friends with anyway.”

“I feel like my cat and I are playing mind games. I need more friends.”

“Now, when you say your cat is playing mind games, do you mean the normal cat stuff, or is this something different?”

    “  so apparently i overshare which i don’t think i do but someone said i do and i was wondering what you think. is it oversharing to talk about how sometimes you really have to sneeze but then you suddenly can’t and you get disappointed? is it oversharing when you let a person know why you always wear a certain necklace? is it oversharing when you describe what your favorite desert in the whole world? or is it just talking a lot? am i talking a lot? i’m talking a lot. ”

“That doesn’t sound like oversharing, it sounds like being friendly.  It’s a good thing.”

         “ okay. i promise you, i’m a very good cook. i swear. this pan just is very new and very slippery apparently! ” maría giggled as yet another pancake almost slipped over the side.

“Apparently.  Is there anything you can do about that?”  Nala tried not to laugh, but she couldn’t help but be amused.

“I refuse to put ‘thank’ and ‘you’ side by side. Especially when it’s in the form of a statement. As if I would have anything to be grateful for.” Harold leveled his gaze. “I stand by everything I’ve said.”

“Something tells me you have plenty to be grateful for.”  If nothing else, he should be grateful he wasn’t black and blue, with an attitude like that.  Of course, Nala tried not to advocate for violence -- there were plenty of other ways to reach people -- but, well.  There are always exceptions.  “And for the record, a woman’s sex life has nothing to do with her convictions.”

“Would you just shut the hell up? Gods. Do you have a fucking off button?” Harold huffed. His typical impatience had him short tempered and ready to harm anyone who dared get in his way. “You just need to fucking be laid.”

“Excuse me?”  She narrowed her eyes at his attitude, clenching the flyers in her hand tighter.  “If you weren’t interested, all you had to do is say ‘no, thank you.’”

Ortensia lifted her eyebrows, immediately interested. “Oh really?” She said thinking to herself for a moment. Shifting her body to face the other, she pressed on, “Do you happen to be looking for any help?”

“I just think it’s important to look your best when you are about to win.” She laughed and smiled at the female. “I’ve picked up a few little tips and tricks through the years. A girl’s gotta be prepared, you know?”

Nala laughed.  “I admire your preparedness, but how do you know you’re going to win?  If you’re playing me, for example, it’s definitely not guaranteed.  In fact, I would consider it much more likely that you won’t.”

“Thanks.” Ortensia smiled as she took the open seat, setting her things down on the table. “So, are you working on something important?” She questioned, not wishing to be a bother.

“Actually, yes, I am.  I’m organizing a protest on climate change, but before I start, I have to do some research on it.”

“I mean it’s a possibility but I have this little trick so that you never loose an earring backing. Get a little fashion tape, wrap it around the back of the earring, and there you go. It’s always worked for me.”
