It seems fitting to share this on Black Cat Appreciation Day. Lots has happened for Miao since this original post. He’s no longer a feral street kitty. After one failed attempt and lots of patience over the course of a couple of months I managed to trap Miao and get him to the vet so he could have a health check, be desexed if needed, vaccinated, parasite control, blood test for FIV etc. (Will post more about the trapping journey later.) The vet confirmed Miao was an undesexed male, that he had two cracked teeth which needed removing and the blood test came back FIV positive which means he will have a compromised immune system for life. The cracked teeth must have been causing him a lot of discomfort. He spent ten days in recovery after his vet network was completed and then began his transition to an indoor domestic life. We had a few chaotic weeks in the beginning as he adjusted. Nala was a great help showing him how good domestic life can be and how pampered kitties live. I turned my back deck into a catio and worked on socialising Miao each day. Two months on and he’s graduated from domestic kitty school a star pupil! He’s become a real lap kitty who hangs out on the couch and loves being brushed and receiving cuddles. He’s getting used to other kind humans visiting him and patting him as well. Being FIV positive means he will need to be to be an indoor only kitty now, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He thinks he’s won the kitty lottery. 😻
