A debate that spans centuries. Are humans born as a blank slate, letting life experience shape them into the adults they grow as today? Or is there already a predetermined route laid out for them even before conception in the womb? Or in Johan’s case…

Can one be inherently evil…destined to become the devil?

Or is one groomed to become the embodiment of all evil?

It is hard to say for the case of Johan Liebert. He was intentionally created by a eugenics experiment, planned by the government to have genius intellect, and to be a perfect killer. As a child he took away lives and played with humans as if they were insignificant ants. But Johan wasn’t the only experiment, his sister was too, his beloved twin sister. Yet—she turned out a lot differently than he, it could even be said that she was normal. Something Johan was far from. But why—why is Nina normal but Johan was not, they came from the exact same experiment yet it yielded different results within the twins.

A reason for their differences would be their life experiences. Johan was separated from his sister for quite some time, living a separate life where he was in an orphanage subjected to Kinderheim’s 511 experiments daily. From being put on various narcotics to being locked away in a lonely cell. Those very experiences bred a hatred and disdain for human life in Johan at an early age. That anger fueled him and his desires, once he got the patients and staff to kill each other, his appetite for blood had been realized.

So perhaps genetics is not the sole factor that determines one’s personality and overall behavior. Life experiences also plays a role in creating a monster too.

In fact that isn’t the criteria for being a narcissist at all—that has more to do with intelligence and problem solving rather than being a symptom of a mental disorder. Though I would agree that anyone who holds themselves higher above others can be a sign of developing self-absorption."
