"Look, I didn’t have a crush on them… I just… Admired them. In a purely platonic way. And what do you mean ‘anyone else?’ What are you trying to imply here?”

If his cousin was not playing a prank on him, then he must have been sick. "Don't be ridiculous, Shisui, you look fine. Now, have you finished your reports yet? They're already a day late."

"Why would you ask if I don - Why are you nagging me about this? Itachi, I’m a responsible adult. I think I can be trusted to handle a few reports.”

Confused, Itachi scanned his cousin for any abnormalities. "Have you fallen ill, Shisui?" He could think of no other reason to excuse his strange behavior.

Shisui took a moment to ponder the words, eyes narrowing as they replayed in his head. Fallen ill? “Do I look ill?” he asked, scanning the room for a mirror. “Look, there’s no way I look that bad, is there?”

So, congrats on that Hokage thing. Gotta admit, back when we were little, I never thought you’d accept the title, even if they offered it… Times were different back then, though, right?

Anyway, not to sound like your dad or anything, but I am so proud of you. No, really, it’s ridiculous how proud of you I am. You’re a fantastic Hokage and you do an amazing job of taking care of the village and the clan. Hell, I think the only thing you don’t do a wonderful job at is taking care of yourself.

How’s the eye treating you? I hope it hurts like a bitch. I mean, I don’t know much about the process of stealing people’s eyes and implanting them into your arms (because I’m a normal person,) but I bet it hurts. A lot. I find this to be satisfying.

But I digress.

You see, Danzo, I’m not writing this so I can check in and make sure that my eye is causing you horrific pain every second of your life (though I do like that idea.) I wrote this so I could tell you something along the lines of ‘watch your fucking back.’
