A common theme throughout this manga is that most of the characters are still teenagers and very young. Their bodies are still growing and developing, and Kageyama knows that more than anyone. He's basically saying, 'Hoshiumi is good, but you could be better.' He is more aware than anyone of how good a player Hinata is and how good he can become. He's not trying to crush Hinata's spirit; he's trying to set it ablaze with more passion and motivation to be the best, to be the next LITTLE GIANT.
