Somewhere in Midtown Manhattan in a building known as the Museum of Modern Art, all of the works made by the likes of Van Gogh, Picasso, and Rousseau were somehow surpassed when a lovely young girl walked in with a boy by her side that was so smitten that he had forgotten what the word ‘masterpiece’ truly meant.
It had been an abnormally beautiful day; pewter gray clouds painted the sky as miniscule drops of rain descended onto the earth like feathers, just like how Neil Perry liked it. Of course, the beauty was in no comparison to the girl he was with.
On a day like this where the world had looked to be at an absolute rest, Neil Perry thought of paying a visit to the renowned museum while they had still been in New York. It wasn’t often that he had time for himself-- or that he was somewhere other than his home in Vermont-- so he pledged to fulfill it to the best of his abilities. There, he went on his way to see the beautiful artworks and brought along with him a work of art of her own that went by the name of Y/N L/N.
The two of them went about their day of touring the museum and looking at all of the breathtaking paintings. It would be hard to take your eyes away from all of the enthralling illustrations, but Neil found it harder to take his eyes off of Y/N. In the entirety of their excursion, Neil had his eyes glued onto Y/N’s alluring figure; completely disregarding the art in front of him. The way her face shifted into deep concentration as she studied the paintings, how her eyes sparkled in fascination at all of the vivid colors, and how a humble smile crept its way to her soft lips-- these were the things that Neil Perry was entranced by; not some old paintings.
Neil Perry knew he had to reveal his feelings for her sometime, and that time would have had to be today. Not that they were concealed at all in the first place, for Neil had been obliviously presenting his love for her through a series of enamored eyes and his constant need for contact. Still and all, he knew that there was no other day as perfect as this to tell her how he felt.
Neil’s eyes had finally been taken off of Y/N when ‘The Lovers’, a painting in which a couple shares a loving kiss through veils, stood before them. He quietly observed René Magritte’s sleek brushstrokes and peered further into the painting; imagining what it would be like to be in the same position, feeling Y/N’s lips on his without the nuisance of a veil. A strange tension hung in the air as Neil plunged even more into his thoughts; while Y/N found herself doing the same. Finally, one of them spoke up.
“I’d like to be like them,” She muttered, keeping her eyes trained on the painting. Y/N knows how much she would have liked for life to imitate art at that moment-- and she knows how much she’d like to imitate it with the boy she was with. As he heard her words, Neil cautiously turned to Y/N, with the tension still prevailing. He knew that there had been no other way to break the atmosphere, and Y/N had been aware of it as well. That being said, he ultimately decided to break it off.
He gently took her jaw in his fingers and turned her face in his direction. She was all there for him to see, and there was nothing else in the world he’d rather be observing. Neil’s eyes flickered as they presented a question, as if he was asking for permission to proceed-- which Y/N unhesitatingly gave her consent to. With that, Neil slowly leaned in and pressed his lips against hers. The first few moments had been modest while Neil took the time to savor the moment and imprint the feeling of her lips in his mind. Only after did Neil begin to divulge his wholehearted passion into the motion of his lips.
Their lips moved against one another with a friction so delightful that Y/N had felt as though all of the colors in every painting was coming alive, swirling through the air and swallowing them whole. The lovers would not have cared at all if the paintings did indeed devour them entirely, for they had each other and the other was all that mattered.
Anyone walking by would have noticed the uncanny resemblances between the lovers inside the canvas and the lovers in the real world. As they took one another by their fervent lips and into each other’s hearts, they began to make parallels to the painting behind them that had been exceedingly similar. Perhaps the statement that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates life” was absolutely correct; for all of the passion, love, and intimacy represented by the two lovers in the painting had been well-portrayed by Neil and Y/N at that singular moment-- and that really was the most beautiful masterpiece art of all.
