Install Pepper Flash Player for Chromium via PPA

1. Add the PPA to your system and install Pepper Flash Player: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:skunk/pepper-flash sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install pepflashplugin-installer

2. Edit a configuration file: gksu gksu gedit /etc/chromium-browser/default

3. Enter the following line in the opened text file after the last line: . /usr/lib/pepflashplugin-installer/pepflashplayer.sh

Remove shortcut underlines

1. Open Terminal.

(Install gedit if you don't have it yet with the following command) sudo apt-get install gedit

2. Type in the following: gedit .gtkrc-2.0

3. Enter the following in the window appearing: gtk-enable-mnemonics = 0

Save and close everything. No restart needed.

Add "Open Terminal here" command to context menu in Nautilus

Open Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get install nautilus-open-terminal

Then restart Nautilus with:

nautilus -q

Theme window button layout settings in Xubuntu

Tested and working in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS, with XFCE 4.10, xfwm4.

/usr/share/themes/<theme_name>/themerc

Look for button_layout= line, if it isn't there, don't worry, you can add it to the end.

Instructions:

T = stick

H = hide

S = shade

M = maximize

C = close

Copy and Paste in Terminal

To copy text from Terminal, select the desired text with the mouse and press:

Ctrl+Shift+C

To paste text in Terminal, move the cursor to the desired location and press:

Ctrl+Shift+V

Setting them up:

1. Download them in a directory.

2. Right click on Mail Watcher on Panel and select Properties.

3. At the bottom part of the popup window, under Icons section, click on the icon you would like to change.

4. In the popup file manager window, navigate to the downloaded PNG file, select it and press Open.

Type the following line to the terminal:

Edit Main Menu on Xubuntu

1. Download the following package:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/lxmed/files/latest/download

2. Go to the folder you saved it, right click and select "Extract Here". You should get a folder named "lxmed". Open it.

3. Create a folder called "opt".

4. Right click and select "Open Terminal Here".

5. Type in the following into the terminal:

chmod +x install.sh

6. Install Java runtime with the following command:

sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre

7. Now install the program with:

sudo ./install.sh

8. You will find the installed program under Settings called Main Menu Editor.

Run Compiz on Xubuntu with metacity theme without Emerald

1. Install Compiz and other programs with the following command:

sudo apt-get install compiz compiz-plugins-extra compiz-plugins-main compizconfig-settings-manager gnome-themes compiz-gnome

2. Add the following command to startup list:

gtk-window-decorator --replace --metacity-theme=greybird

Show custom notification message

Wherever you can specify a custom command, type the following:

notify-send "custom text"

Should work on all distributions, tested on Xubuntu.

Run a link on click in Mail Watcher

1. Add Mail Watcher plugin to your panel.

2. Right click on it and select Properties.

3. In the middle section under "External Programs" you will find "Run on click" and "Run on new messages" lines. Enter the browser command and the link separated with a space:

chromium-browser http://gmail.com

To open gmail.com with Chromium. It will open the link in a new tab.

firefox http://hotmail.com

To open hotmail.com with Firefox. It will also open the link in a new tab.
