Coping with pjeg cancellation part 2
Coping with pjeg cancellation
P:EG lines out of context
I ran the DRDT cast's names through a hypertranslator
Someone did this on the r/danganronpa subreddit so I tried it with DRDT characters. The results are.. interesting.
I forgot most of it and all I remember was watching TV with some of the other characters. Then Ace barged into the room, punched the TV and killed me via chucking a remote at my head.
.
oh my god

Rambling about the secret quotes
Some characters' secret bio quotes make a lot more sense after CH2 part 2.
Let's start off with Nico's quote - "Why should I own up for the mistakes that someone else made?". My guess is that in CH3, Nico will be antagonized for their murder attempt, since that was a major turning point for Ace. They'll be blamed for pushing Ace too far and by extension, Arei's murder. I believe the quote's intended meaning is "Why should I own up for Ace killing Arei?"
Moving onto Hu's - "I want to pay for what I’ve done. But even then, I still want to live." I find it interesting how this quote seems to mirror Ace's confession in episode 15. My interpretation is that Hu will realize her babying of Nico/downplaying their murder attempt impacted Ace's decision to kill, leading to the deaths of not only him but Arei too.
Finally, I want to talk about Ace's quote on Mai's character page - "A girl who had a bright future". Knowing that Ace's arc ends here, this quote genuinely baffles me. Ace only had negative development throughout the main story and the series certainly hasn't hinted at him having a bright past. At what point did he "have a bright future"? We don't know much about Ace's backstory but I subscribe to the idea of his parents forcing him into jockeying (The surname Markey can translate to "descendant of the horseman". Also, his remark about having "horse-riding genes" in episode 2 of CH1). From what we know, Ace has never had the freedom of making his own decisions. His secret quote implies he had a bright future at some point, before something went wrong. My only guess is that it had something to do with his deceased friend.
I'm holding out hope that DRDT ends up being a virtual world simulation or something like that and all the characters are still alive (delusional).
No but really, now that I think about it, the fourth wall has been broken so many times it can't be insignificant. Whit directly communicating with the audience, MonoTV referring to "this world" during J's Rosales reveal (implying it knows other worlds exist), etc.
Even if it turns out I'm wrong, we'll still get a bonus episode about Ace. I'm curious to see what he'd be like outside a killing game setting.
Judging by the premiere's thumbnail, us Ace fans might be screwed. As much as I want to believe a 3rd party is the culprit, it seems too late for another major twist (the premiere length is 46 minutes and ep 16 will be the post-trial/execution segment).
I doubt Teruko would look so confident accusing the person she placed the most trust in. I imagine this panel would look a lot more angsty if Eden was the killer.
This briefly flashed in my mind when I saw this line
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
It's not Ace
IT'S NOT ACE
Well... I didn't see that coming.
I figured Levi had the murderer secret, but he came right out and said it. Which doesn't make much sense for a culprit to do.
If he's the blackened, I don't see why he'd draw attention to himself like that. I don't think he'll admit to killing Arei either, since we still haven't figured out the case.
If he isn't the killer, my top picks would be Eden and Ace. Both have had a ton of screentime recently and also fit the chapter's theme.
DRDT Chapter 3 Predictions
(Spoilers for DRDT and canon DR)
Something I've noticed in chapter 3 of the canon DR games (aside from the double victim trope) is the pre-established rivalry between 2 of the deaths. Kiyotaka and Hifumi, Mikan and Hiyoko, Angie and Tenko - all had an ongoing conflict before they died. The third death is a character relatively uninvolved in said conflict.
I wonder what this means in the context of DRDT, assuming the series will follow this trope. Currently, the most prominent rivalry is Ace/Nico, but it doesn't make much sense to kill Ace off right after the failed murder attempt.
The other conlict is Arturo/J. I doubt Arturo will forgive J for revealing his secret. By next chapter, I'm pretty sure their dislike will be mutual. It's worth mentioning that DRDT seems to be following THH's motives, with an interesting twist. By this logic, chapter 3's motive will involve money. Another DR tradition is the third blackened having an unsympathetic motive (or being a generally threatening person, in the cases of Korekiyo and Celeste).
It's been hinted that Arturo greatly values money and material goods (as evidenced by his line - "You have fame, talent, money, and natural beauty," in ch2 ep 4. Also, the fact that Arturo didn't consider J beautiful before he learned about her family confirms he equates beauty to status.) The only other character that could be affected by this motive is Rose, but given the direction her character is going, I don't think she'll end up as a culprit. I can easily see Arturo having a selfish murder motive, given his personality.
Blackened or victim, I'm almost certain chapter 3 is Arturo's time to go. It's usually the time when 'oddball' characters with weird beliefs/motivations, or characters' whose absence sets a more serious tone for final chapters, tend to die.
As for chapter 3's third death, I'm leaning towards Veronika. She doesn't have an active role in the Arturo/J conflict, and she seems quite infatuated with Arturo. Arturo could use the latter to his advantage, maybe by convincing Veronika to become his accomplice. I don't think she would object to that.
One of the killing game's rules caught my eye - "All murderers must be held accountable for their crimes." This could mean many things, but now I wonder if it could refer to a double blackened scenario.
In any case, I believe Arturo and J are dying in the next chapter.
DRDT - Teruko's secret
We know Teruko won't share her motive secret on account of not knowing which one is hers. This means several of the cast's secrets apply to her. It's widely accepted that hers is the "fault for killing game" one, but this makes me wonder which other secrets make sense for her.
It's safe to assume we can rule out the confirmed secrets, barring Xander's (because David was 100% bullshitting). CONFIRMED: Nico, Arei, Rose, J, Charles, Eden, Arturo, Whit, Ace, David.
This leaves us with 6 secrets. We can debunk 3:
"You're constantly blaming yourself for the death of your parents and siblings." - Doesn't make sense. The only sibling Teruko remembers having is her brother, whom she doesn't believe is dead.
"You always treated the competition with ruthlessness, but poisoning them to win was a bit too far, wasn't it?" - As far as we know, Teruko doesn't have a stable job, so 'competition' doesn't make sense.
"You only took on your talent to distract from your incessant need to harm yourself for fun." - Teruko has no Ultimate talent, so no.
By process of elimination, the only possible secrets are "the KG is all your fault", the suicide attempts and the remorseless murderer one.
In ep 4 of Ch 2, Teruko says a line which implies she has attempted suicide, so one of these 3 secrets is definitely plausible.
However, when David revealed ""Xander""'s secret, Teruko should've realized hers is the suicide one by process of elimination. But she didn't, which has some worrying implications.
The other version is that Teruko sniffed out David's BS from the get-go, which is what I'm hoping for.
inb4 Levi is revealed to have been an assassin in ch2 part 2
I'm almost 100% sure of it. And I doubt the "murderer" secret only refers to one murder. Given how desensitized Levi seems to the killing game's events (arguably less than Whit, but he's a different story), it wouldn't be a stretch to guess he's witnessed death quite a lot. When you take his hidden quote into account, it really starts to make sense. If it's true, he's dying this chapter.
Also, this spells disaster for Ace's arc. His suspicions about Levi will be proven right, leading him to become even more distrustful.
DRDT revised heights chart
Something I found interesting in DRDT is that the characters' ages are considered a spoiler.
Teruko once referred to the rest of the cast as 'college aged somethings', and according to Google, that's an age range of 18 - 24. Allegedly, most characters should be around that age, barring the years of memories they've lost (In the prologue or chapter 1, Rose assumes that two years have passed). All characters seem young, so I wouldn't normally assume drastic age differences among the cast.
However, some of their professions require years upon years of preparation and qualifications, and most likely years of experience to become an Ultimate. Given how good DRDT's writing is, the creator has definitely looked into the specifics of the characters' talents, and the path to obtaining their occupations.
In the case of Arturo, I believe it requires 14 years (minimum) of preparation to become a plastic surgeon. Going by this logic, Arturo should be 32 years old at the least. Add in the time frame of lost memories, and that puts him at a minimum age of 34.
Laws might be different in the DRDT universe, but realistically, Arturo would be closer to 40 than 20.
Just a random thought I had.
