How do you think each member of the pjeg cast would act as the mastermind? (excluding Cassidy since…well, she’s the mastermind)
i feel like the characters i least expected to be a potential traitor/mastermind are obvious from what i wrote for them, but i did my best to come up with stuff for them all lol(granted i didn't expect a mastermind at all, but the "okay but what if?" thoughts explored in others' fanfics were still cool at the time) do these still count as Out-Of-Character if we never got to see them fully in character?
◊ Damon: Genuinely surprised he got found out, especially if most of the people walking into Ch6 weren't the brightest of the group. Too arrogant for his own good. Despite acting like everything went according to plan, there's still some disappointment at how Ultimates, the supposed best of the best, were driven to this point......even if only 4, maybe 5, of them actually deserve the title in his opinion. Attempts to stay distant & logical in the way he speaks to them, with mixed results (they can feel the disdain he has for them in every word he says)
◊ Kai: "C'mon, is it really so surprising that the guy whose job is essentially to manipulate people is the mastermind?" Very snide about how easily they all fell for his act. Probably spent most of the KG gaslighting people about innocuous things for fun. Has a cheerful energy once he's exposed but there's an obvious undertone of malice in every word. Very quick to make digs at the survivors' insecurities & doubts every time they try to keep going forward with the trial (...or when they point out his own flaws)
◊ Diana: Wanted so badly to believe that they can do better, is devastated when she's proven wrong every single time. Would probably be most similar to Cassidy in that there's an obvious hollowness under the mask once the others realize and rip it off. And then underneath that hollowness is an abyss of spite. Honestly the best way I can describe this is a fusion of Junko(specifically in regards to the quick swapping of personas) and drante's ch2 killer (not naming to avoid spoiling) in terms of how she acts by the time the survivors reach ch6
◊ Wolfgang: hypocrite and liar of the highest order. Acts very self-righteous and suave, and pretends that he has the right to judge and punish them for their sins. Tips the scales in his favor then says he made the game fair. All of this is even more evident in the case of a non-Ultimate Wolfgang. Able to justify his actions to himself John Kramer-style and sticks to it until someone can finally prove his hypocrisy to everyone
◊ Eva: Would have the most similar motivations to Cassidy in regards to how the UTP has brought her nothing but misery, and similarly to Wolfgang, she acts like she's justified because of the mistreatment she endured (and that she kept things "fair"). In this case she likely didn't commit the first murder so she can say that the others are just as selfish as her....even though none of them would've killed if she hadn't put them in the KG. She gets pissed when this is pointed out
◊ Ulysses: the irony of repeating history is not lost on him. He wants to see if the end would change the 2nd time around, is disappointed that it doesn't. Intentionally kept himself in the dark unless someone was planning an attempt on him, but was still able to accurately predict almost everything that happened in the KG. Keeps up a facade of the others being picked because they deserve it in some way or another, but secretly desires both to lash out at the world in such a way that he'll never be forgotten by it, and to see firsthand how people persevere (or break) when suffering through such a major tragedy. Revels in having power over the others
◊ Toshiko: who put the child in charge of a killing game. Okay to be more serious, becomes very cold upon being found out. Of her previous "acting mature but is very obviously still a child" behavior, it's the childish aspects that were faked.....for the most part, at least, since she ends up throwing a tantrum when she talks about her motivation for starting the killing game (then apologizes for her "little outburst" and attempts to regain composure for the rest of the trial)
◊ Mark: after so long being forced into the background and staying quiet, he relishes in being able to scream now that he's forced them to acknowledge him (there isn't actually much screaming, but it's the loudest they've heard him get since the KG started....and the most words he's ever spoken at one time). Very aggressive & spiteful, will shut people down if they try interrupting him
◊ Wenona: keeps her composure when suspicions turn towards her, and almost gets away with it if not for some minuscule piece of evidence. After she's finally exposed, she treats the others like they're just animals performing tricks for her amusement instead of people killing each other. Very lackadaisical about the potential ramifications of this - the UTP will just find more Ultimates to replace the ones that died, and the only reason she chose Ultimates in the first place is to see if she'd get away with it the way she knows she would if she had kidnapped normal people instead
◊ Jett: Tries to joke it off when he's caught but quickly gives that up once he sees the comic relief act isn't working anymore. Honestly not much changes from how he usually acts, which just makes him more unnerving. Treats the killing game like a spectacle for his entertainment, and revels in the thrills, chills, kills. Very excited to talk about everything he did
◊ Desmond: when everyone will think you're a monster no matter what, sometimes you decide you might as well become one. Remains fairly calm for a while when finally exposed, but does eventually slip up and reveal just how much he despises the others for their selfishness & hubris
◊ Eloise: would be one of the top 5 masterminds able to argue for their supposed innocence the longest. Unlike Mark, she'd patiently wait for the others to finish what they're saying before coldly cutting their words down. Gives each survivor a detailed list of everything she hates about them
◊ Ingrid: either a masterful manipulator, or she doesn't act as nice/selfless during the KG. Very patronizing towards the others, tells them it's not their fault they didn't realize it was her this whole time, even when she did something that was obviously suspicious in hindsight. Acts like a disappointed parent, talks about how she expected better of them than to just go around killing each other all willy-nilly like that
◊ Grace: is probably the quickest of the masterminds to get found out lol. Gets even more aggressive towards the others than she was before, but otherwise acts the same. Will take every chance she gets to mock the dead people for being "fucking idiots" and getting themselves killed
◊ Jean: keeps up a poker face until the evidence against him is irrefutable. Knows when to fold and calmly confesses. Probably acts like how he would've in the Ch2 trial: acknowledges that what he did is evil, but sees their deaths as a worthwhile sacrifice to achieve whatever his goals would be in this case
After reading about the new info on Damon’s character….
Bro.. what the hell… he is the writers’ goddamn punching bag frr.. they hate him so much.
Look I know they were just ideas that could’ve been scrapped, but why’d they gotta do him so dirty like that??
His overall character arc feels like character derailment in my opinion.
I think the writers forgot what their own game is even about… Might as well rename it to Project Eden’s dating sim cause it doesn’t feel like the same one at all.
it would still leave a bad taste in my mouth, but I would be more """"okay"""" with the unrequited crush if it weren't for the fact that, of the very little stuff we currently know about Diana, the only stuff that links her to Damon post-Ch1 are:
Damon got catty with her after she started rooming with Kai
she defended Jean (the guy that tried to kill Damon)
covered Damon's eyes during Toshiko's execution
i guess we can count whatever the rest of Diana's FTEs would've been (though not really since it's missable content if you don't do them)
and that's everything i can think of??????????????????
like, there is more ammo from Ch1, but you'd expect there to be more if Damon was supposed to bond enough with Diana to A) get a crush, and B) confess??? while dealing with everything regarding the traitor perk and his dead situationship?? thank god she turned it down. i'm choosing to believe they would've cut the whole crush thing out when they got to that point for my own sanity
