Positive thoughts are healthy for you in more ways than one.  In the long run, learning to redirect your thoughts to be more positive (i.e., "I feel horrible." versus "I feel better than yesterday.") will help to create new "positive" neuron pathways for your body to respond to. Keep in mind that positive thoughts should not be "a layer of a few positive thoughts that cover a pit of negative ones." In many ways, a positive attitude requires training- its a daily activity. This Daily Science article, "Negative emotions in response to daily stress take a toll on long-term mental health" details a longitudinal research study that supports the need for daily positive thinking.Â
