“Good morning Fawn, wake up, it’s your birthday!”
The said birthday celebrant wiped the sleep from his eyes before rolling over.
“Thanks mom.” He mumbled in reply.
“No, no. No sleeping in. It’s time for our breakfast.” Every year they would have a special breakfast carved out just for the two of them before the day’s celebrations. Even now she sent Shikamaru out to pick up the food and cake so that she could just have some time with her not so baby boy.
Shikadai shut his eyes pulling the covers back over. “Can we just cancel it this year? I just got back from a mission. I want to sleep in then go see my friends.”
Temari was struck speechless. “What? That’s not what we do on your birthday. It’s our tradition. We have breakfast together then we celebrate as a family. You’re welcome to invite them to come over tonight.”
“Mom, I’m a little too old for birthday parties.”
Temari could feel heat rising in her. “You can see your friends whenever you want. Today is for us.”
He groaned into his pillow. “Do you have to be such a nag about this? It’s my birthday, shouldn’t I be allowed to do what I want?”
“Excuse me?”

Nara Week 2020 Day 7: Legacy
A/N: IT’S OUR PRECIOUS SON’S BIRTHDAY. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SHIKADAI! Can’t believe Nara Week has already reached its last day TwT. I got nothing else to say so uh… Enjoy this cliché plot for legacy xd
Protect the King. Has always been Shikamaru’s motto. Shikadai had heard it thousands of times. It had drilled into his head ever since he started his training to become a ninja. But who was this ‘King’ his father kept telling him about? His first thought was that the ‘King’ is the Hokage. Sure, he’s the most powerful ninja in the village but he got my bodyguards to protect him. When he told his father this, Shikamaru just gave him a laugh and he was met with “That’s what I used to thought too”
Mirai also suffered the same stupid quiz. Her first answer was “Bond”. And as Shikadai had expected, got turned out immediately. But for some reason, after her mission with Lord Sixth and Guy. She found the answer.
“What do you mean you won’t tell me?!”
“I went through life and death to get this answer!” She pointed a finger at him, a stupid smirk on her face “So you got to find it out yourself, Bambi~”
“I’m too old for that stupid nickname, you troublesome woman” God, she’s annoying. Why can’t she just tell him to save him from this agonizing quiz?
“Beside” She suddenly turned fond, a small smile forming “I was told this was how my father named me…”
“Eh…?” Mirai was named ‘Mirai’ because of this ‘King’ concept? Now Shikadai’s even more confused.

Nara Week 2020 - Day 4: Cooking
A/N: I don’t have much to say aside from thanking everyone who has been participating in Nara Week on both Tumblr and Twitter! :D I have been blessed with many amazing works (some not so much… But hey, I had been expecting some of you to break my heart this week anyway xd You know who you are… coughBexandSpookcough oh sorry, just an itchy throat) Anyway, enjoy this shenanigan I wrote… :D
It wasn’t easy for them to get Temari out of the house. She wasn’t budging and they would be sent flying before she would even step a foot out. But finally, with all the troublesome efforts, Ino and Sakura had dragged Temari away for a ‘girls’ day’. Shikamaru will need to thank them later.
Shikadai was the first to finally speak up after Temari had disappear from their line of sight “What are you even planning to make? Did you even think about it?”
“N-No… I was too busy trying to find a way to get your mother out of the house first” He tucked his hands onto his pockets, glancing at his son “I’m sure you’ve thought of something”
“Of course, I did” He scoffed “But we’ll need to get groceries first. We don’t have all day now” He was quick to walked back inside the house and grabbed the grocery basket.
“Got a grocery list?” Shikadai was quick to pull the piece of paper out of his pocket, a small confident grin plastered on his face “I’m impressed”
“I had to when you were looking so miserable on begging her to go- Ow!” He quickly received a bop to the head. He shot a glare at his father, rubbing his head
“No need to say my suffering aloud. Come on, let’s hurry before Temari blows the house down for kicking her out of the house” Shikamaru turned back for the door.

“Kamatari! Are you hungry? I picked up the treats you like!” Temari announced stepping into her apartment. The move from Suna to Konoha was a tough one but she needed a change of pace and to branch out from the watchful eyes of her brothers. The tiny apartment was a far cry from the palatial home she once knew but it was all her own. Her mother and father had also been wary of the move but her family knew that there was no changing her mind after it was set.
They had come to help her move in but once she was settled headed back home. The silence of the apartment was a little startling. Thankfully, she had her pet weasel that would keep her company.
“Kamatari? Where are you? It’s time for dinner?” She’d set up a comfortable space for her roommate that was as similar to back home as she could get it. Kamatari had been her pet since she was little and he was as good of a pet as they came. It may have been an odd choice but she’d raised him from infancy and he’d become her loyal companion.
Temari searched high and low through the small apartment, not finding Kamatari anywhere. It was dinner time and like clockwork, he’d be ready for his meal. She began to worry that the move had been too traumatic for the small animal. She started to dial her brother’s number hoping they weren’t too far away and could come back to help her search the neighborhood.
“Ahh! What the hell is that?” Temari looked up hearing the muffled cry from the other side of the wall. She ran outside and stormed into her neighbor’s apartment with a sneaking suspicion of where her errant pet was hiding.
She wanted to laugh out loud at the terrified expression on the man’s face as he held a book and a spatula in front of him while Kamatari jumped and danced.
“Kamatari! Get back here! This is not how we meet our neighbors.”
The man’s panicked eyes turned towards hers. “Is this thing yours?”
“He’s not a thing. He’s my pet weasel Kamatari.”
