RP RESOLUTIONS

End call-out culture. If someone is genuinely a danger to society at large, that’s not a call-out. If someone did you dirty, uses a FC you don’t like, or acted shady to a friend of a friend of yours, that’s a call-out. In 2018, let’s move past the era of airing out our dirty laundry and the mob mentality that comes with it. I have seen some genuinely disturbing people on this site. But I’ve also seen people who, through a misunderstanding or one ignorant ( but not actively hateful ) post have had to leave the RPC, abandon their muse, etc, and no amount of apology is ever seen as enough. 

More radical love. Loving yourself and loving others. If someone gives you anxiety, quietly remove them from your dashboard. If you really love seeing someone on your dash, let them know. If you really really love a certain style of writing, whether it’s seen as purple, basic, or “wrong” in someone else’s eyes, allow yourself to enjoy and be proud of what you’ve written. 

No more conflating graphics with quality, but on the flipside, no more shaming people who love to put effort into their graphics. The presence or lack thereof of some ultra-hyped theme, insane graphics, and the most beautiful icons you’ve ever seen should no longer be the reason why or why not you like a blog. 

Friends ≠ Exclusivitiy. This was something that I saw a lot of at different times this year. Someone being called “cliquey” or “elitist” because they had a well-established group of friends who they really loved writing with. Unless they’re being actively exclusionary and responding to you with stuff like “I’m sorry, you’re not Stacy so I don’t like you,” just let it go. Just as you don’t OWE anyone plots you don’t want, etc –– so too do other people have the right to want or not want to write with whomever they please. Unless they’re being actively rude to you, this should be left in 2017 as something to message people about. 

MORE POSITIVITY!!! Seriously, any kind of positivity. Friendly anons, randomly tagging people in stuff, sharing promos with lovely messages in the tags… just be nice to each other. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. 

No More Hatred of the Writers. Okay, maybe this one is a personal one, but the trend/phenomenon that’s on tumblr of hating the writers of shows, books, media where your muse comes from. If you don’t agree with something, that’s fine, but it’s become some sort of shorthand and accepted understanding that if you’re in the fandom, you have to wholeheartedly disagree with every point the writers make. Isn’t that tiring?

LAUGHTER was a rare genre of music to be heard through the walls of the Manor. Narcissa’s laughter in particular rang through the now ballroom, like the sound of tinkling bells. He certainly didn’t get his sense of humor from his father, nor his natural ability to dance gracefully.

Her smile was wide and beautiful as she stretched her arms out, waving her hands gracefully, “Come now, come, come. It is your duty as the man to approach the woman for a dance. If I’ve ever taught you anything, it should be that.” She teased her son, her eyes widening slightly as he approached her-- when did he get so tall?

“I must warn you Draco, I may steal you as my dance partner for tonight if you prove to be more talented than your father.”

SHE WAS NOW A TORTURED WOMAN. A role she had never hoped to portray. 

 Shaking in her seat, Narcissa’s lips trembled, and she found herself unable to make eye contact with Draco. Narcissa had never lived a particularly difficult life, she was used to being spoiled, and pampered, and naturally, she had raised her son to live the same lavish lifestyle. Punishment, vengeance, fear, these are things Narcissa had always hoped her son would be ignorant to. The thought of Draco having to pay for his parents’ faults was simply heart breaking to her. And it showed in every feature of her face, the way her brows were knit in deep thought, the way her eyes scanned a crowd of nothing before her, the way her lips thinned into a straight line.

“No.” She started quietly, “You won’t be his whipping boy. I refuse--” her breathing hitched-- a hiccup, she was crying, “Your father, he would never accept the day his son paid for his own wrongdoings. It would kill him.” Agony was inevitable in her voice, Lucius was not here to defend her, or their son, they were all on their own. Narcissa wanted to defend them. Draco would not   let her   . The frustration of this whole situation alone was enough to make Narcissa’s blood boil.

“You will   not   be taking that mark, Draco. I’ve told you already! I’ve made a deal. I can handle this myself, but I can not handle the thought of you practically killing yourself for your father and I!”

Days now, it had been. Three horrible, silent, solitude days. The two Malfoys too angry with one another to even hold simple dinner conversation.

“ Enough, “ Narcissa broke the silence between herself and her son. Childish, ridiculous, absolutely demeaning, it was.

“I will not stand for this childish behavior any longer.” Her back was straighter than ever, her mouth and eyes as severe as they had ever been in his 17 years, especially toward him. “I am your mother, and I deserve to be treated as so.” Her jaw was visibly clenched, she was holding something back from him. Whether it was tears, an apology, or a rude statement, it was obvious that she was hiding a weakness from him. She adverted her eyes from him, staring through a window, and at the snow on the ground.

“I understand that you are angry. I’m not happy with this situation either, Draco!” How rare it was for Narcissa to raise her voice to her son. Everything was changing so quickly, Narcissa could hardly understand any of it.

“I need you to stay on the same side as me. It does us no good to go our separate ways. I beg you, please, just   do as you are told   !”

A MOTHER’S LOVE.

Protection. The art of shielding a loved one from great harm or danger, an action expected to be taken by a mother, in any circumstance. Of course, protecting her son was Narcissa Malfoy’s only intention nowadays, as it had been since he was conceived, but now more than ever.

Danger. It loomed around every corner, the unknown being faced on a day-to-day style. It was   unbearable   for the mother of one child, trying to shield a rebellious child from war.

DEVASTATION. The art of being destroyed to ashes, and having to rebuild oneself from the dust, whilst protecting her only pride and joy from any harm that may come.

TWO DAYS since Lucius Malfoy was tried and found guilty of all charges. Leaving behind his wife and son, the matriarch of course took it upon herself to keep her and her son safe. Especially now that the Dark Lord was planning on taking his fury with Lucius out on Draco. Narcissa was not having any of it. Already, she had tried to settle negotiations with The Dark Lord. It ended with a hard slap against her beautiful, porcelain cheek, a scolding, and a horrible offer. An offer that would be taken only if it meant her son would be at no risk. Draco had been personally invited to join the Dark Lord’s cause, and to accept the Dark Mark.

“ Draco, “ Narcissa initially pleaded, keeping her voice as low as she could manage, for she did not want to create a scene, “I have made a deal with the Dark Lord.” Her gentle eyes scanned his, and her pale, comforting hand, rested on top of his, gripping his wrist. “You’ve no longer any need to take the mark. I insist you do not take it, in fact. I’ve told you once and I will tell you a thousand times, there is no need for you to take your father’s place. He will be back with us.” Her other hand shook in her lap, where he could not see, “Until then, I will be the one to take the Dark Lord’s...” punishment  “demands. It is my duty as your mother to take the burden. Now, you will still be attending school of course, so I suggest we take a trip to Diagon Alley tomorrow to purchase your supply list--”

“   CAN YOU TEACH  me to dance, mum?   ”   a favor asked in the middle of breakfast, metaphorically spat out.  he’s finished his meal already, without even paying attention to what was in his plate.  draco’s been thinking about this whole thing ever since lucius mentioned that the triwizard tournament would be held in hogwarts this school year  —-  ballroom dancing was simply a skill he never thought he’d need.

“NONSENSE.” The word spilled from her English-tea tinted lips without any thought. Setting her tea cup down, Narcissa straightened her back and pulled her shoulders back, to exude an even haughtier appearance than normal.

“There is nothing a Malfoy man is not good at, yes?” Narcissa’s head turns only for a moment and snaps her fingers at their new, even uglier elf, “Clear this. And the table. It’s been a while since I’ve had a dance. Draco, on your feet.” Her tone was much warmer to her son as she rose from the table. With one wave of Narcissa’s wand, the table had vanished from the dining room, and suddenly, there was a soft medley playing around the room.

“You know, in my day, we never got to have a ball. The tri-wizard tournament was still promptly banned when your father and I attended Hogwarts. A shame, really, anyone will tell you that I’m quite the dancer.”
