My favorite Tolkien illustrations by Cor Blok in no particular order:
Bilbo and Gollum. Bilbo is the moon for some reason which is cool i guess
Smeagol and Deagol. I love the seaweed in the background, great attention to detail
Frodo serving Robin Hood-realness at his and Bilbo’s birthday party. Literally iconic
Isildur taking the ring from Sauron. Its great but I would like to see more of Sauron than just his hand, because I think he has the potential to look really cool
Pippin jumping into the bath at Crickhollow… no comment
Bilbo gives the Mithril coat to Frodo. Great poses, very stiff and awkward. I like it.
The fellowship. This one is a classic.
Gandalf and the balrog. Amazing
Boromir trying to take the ring from Frodo. I love the way he reaches for his sword, it looks very natural
Merry and Pippin and Treebeard. I like his legs and the fact that it looks like he’s wearing shorts.
Wait for it

is anyone going to tell the people in the notes who are calling the driver an idiot that they did not, in fact, wait for it?
(or that the driver that other people so clearly see is, in fact, not)
ok fuck that got me
This is very cool and a pretty big deal. Find out why.
Big black hole news. -Emily
In case you somehow missed this news last week, it’s the biggest science deal all year!

No I won’t. Lack of diversity should never not bother you.
I don't know if you log on to this anymore but, hi.
Hi.
Stardust
I like the idea of stardust and how we came from an explosion of stars. We are products of a billion year cosmic dance- one of finesse and power, beauty and termination. We are made from star stuff, like Carl Sagan said. We are children of the stars. We are the universe. And eventually the universe will once again become us. Stardust.

Galaxy Messier 101
This image of the spiral galaxy Messier 101 is a composite of views from the Spitzer Space Telescope, Hubble Space Telescope, and Chandra X-ray Observatory. Each wavelength region shows different aspects of celestial objects and often reveals new objects that could not otherwise be studied. The red color shows Spitzer’s view in infrared light. It highlights the heat emitted by dust lanes in the galaxy where stars can form. The yellow color is Hubble’s view in visible light. Most of this light comes from stars, and they trace the same spiral structure as the dust lanes. The blue color shows Chandra’s view in X-ray light. Sources of X-rays include million-degree gas, exploded stars, and material colliding around black holes. Such composite images allow astronomers to see how features seen in one wavelength match up with those seen in another wavelength. It’s like seeing with a camera, night vision goggles, and X-ray vision all at once.
