After three consecutive sleepless nights with my editor, Pippo, my PD and graphic animator, Rico and Daniel who handled our sound, my short film is finally done. To be completely honest, I’m quite disappointed with it’s output. Mostly because I knew that I didn’t work hard enough for this film; pre-production was a mess because of my inherent laziness, and by the time production came we were all a jumbled mess. But surprisingly enough, we all pushed through, and I couldn’t have been more thankful with all the experiences and lessons that I’ve learned in this tough, but worthwhile journey. I don’t really want to say anything more aside from the fact that I enjoyed every moment with my amazing crew and actors, and that I wouldn’t have had the courage to direct my story if it weren’t for my friends. Post-production was the most fun I had in weeks and I would gladly do it all over again. The prospect of creating better films one day with all these amazing people excites me, and I am proud to say that I am no longer frightened.
Going over the shots at the moment for my thesis film. I’ve been avoiding editing for weeks now because I’m afraid to see it all stitched together, but I guess I can’t run from this forever. I’m both excited and terrified at the same time, but it was an experience I’ll always be thankful for. I never really believed that I would have any interest in directing, but after going through this long and arduous (but fun and worth it) process with my amazing team, I realized that I also have a growing passion for directing. I’m still learning my own style (with the help of my best friend, of course) and often times, I still feel like I’m not good enough to push through with my visions, but I’m slowly opening myself up to the idea that I can do more - I can be more.
