Hi Nat, How's it going? I know that i'm kindof annoying but anyway.i checked your art and you're so so talented.i have started getting interested in painting a while ago and i really really want to be good at it.but i'm 16 too and i have zero skill or talent. I'm interested specifically in realistic acrylic portraits. But i really really do not know where to start or if there's any hope for me. to be good at painting i have to be good at drawing and i can't draw that good at all. -1
Hello there! So I am absolutely terrible at checking these messages. Honestly, just practice. Look up tutorials, get art books showing how to draw a face and a figure. That’s what I did when I was a kid. I drew and painted what made me happy. Honestly, the truth is, if you can look back at your work from a few years, a year, or even 6 months ago, and say to yourself, “wow, I thought this was good but looking back at it, I’ve gotten so much better,” then that means you’re on the right track. It’s never too late to start doing art. Some of the most famous artists through time didn’t even start until later in their lives: Van Gogh didn’t start painting until he was 27. You can start by copying, for practice, and understanding of technique (obviously not using it as your own work if you just straight copy someone else, it gets into copyright issues there). When I was in Elementary school, I started off with the draw by steps books, to learn how to create shapes and how to just simply draw. It’s just important to start, and if you get frustrated, look up how other artists do their work. Practice, but also research and then practice some more. You say that your work looks kiddish, but looking back your work will always look less good than your work now, and that’s what you want! This paragraph was sort of just smushed together but I hope my advice helps! Just because you’re not an art major doesn’t mean that you can’t paint or draw! Some of my good friends that can draw never took an art class and learned on their own, and are better than some of my friends that are actually art majors.
