just as natasha smiled, betty found her smile again too. feeling the urge to hug natasha, she gave her a quick one. ❝ – we could add everyone, that’s true. so many people have been so nice and sweet here, but it’s…i dunno, there’s something about our family. you know? ❞ she broke away from the hug, taking a deep breath and exhaling. ❝ nat, i’ll tell you…just ‘cause i feel like i should and i feel like keeping it is just going to make the bad feeling stay longer – ❞ she gestured at herself, ❝ so…you remember the guy i told you about? the frog prince? he left recently. and i’m working through it, it’s just…a little weird. but i’m working through it, ❞  she repeated, with a strong smile.    

❝ alright, then we’ll make it a family affair. ❞ she smiled. natasha tilted her head to the side slightly as she listened to betty’s story. as the other guardian finished her confession, natasha reached out for her hand and gave it a light squeeze. ❝ you don’t have to work through it alone, you know. i’m here for you, no matter what season passes. ❞ she smiled.

“Thank you, thank you,” he replied as he took a couple of bows as if he were on stage in front of an audience like he usually was when he performed. “Really? I’d definitely love to hear that sometime.”

❝ you would? ❞ the guardian’s eyes lit up with excitement. ❝ oh gosh, that would be truly wonderful. i appreciate it. i do some gigs at a restaurant in town, it’s been a pleasure to work there. ❞

❝ we’ll make signs. like, a little sticker sheet, and every time we find a natasha-betty hang-out spot, we’ll just hide the sticker somewhere there! ❞ she gushed. the idea sounded ridiculous at the start, but now she actually loved it. betty pouted at the idea of natasha’s heart-breaking. ❝ if that ever happens, i’ll pull it back together, don’t you worry. it’ll be a team effort. ❞ she winked.  ❝ a tag-team thing, everyone would be in on it. we’ve got us guardian kids – who else should be in there?  ❞

❝ you always have the best ideas, solnyshko! ❞ she cheered, the bright smile back on her face once again. ❝ i appreciate it. ❞ she nodded her head. though natasha’s heart was far from breaking, whilst her heart was as warm as the sun, she preferred to keep it locked away where no one could break it. ❝ — i don’t really know who to add! we should add everyone! ❞ she laughed.

riordan turned to the other onlooker, flashing a small, polite smile. he hadn’t meant to garner attention but wasn’t one to be awkward. he looked back at the dancers, following a small practice routine that had all the positions of footwork in it. a drill that helped dancers who took a break get back into dancing. “yeah, you can tell which ones practiced during the break. i hope some of them audition for the company in arcadia. i think they’d make it,” he told the stranger. “um, is it alright if i have some, too?? i’ve got a bad sweet tooth. the name’s riordan, by the way. most people call me rio.”

the st. north looked at him as he gazed around the dancers, like he was somehow yearning to be part of their troupe. ❝ you know so much, that's amazing. i hope they get to pass that audition you're talking about, i mean they're all fantastic. ❞ she said. ❝ makes me think you, yourself are a dancer, sir—sure here you go.❞ she moved the bag of caramel popcorn to his direction. ❝ nice to meet you rio, i'm natasha… st. north. ❞ she hesitated adding the last name but it spilled out at the last second.

“Actually, yeah there are,” he replied with a grin before stepping back a bit and giving her a small dance move or two. “I’m a dancer.” Stepping over to her and reaching behind her ear to pull out a silver dollar coin, which he spun between his knuckles, “And a magician.”

natasha clapped her hands together at his little dance act. ❝ how wonderful! ❞ she smiled. natasha was even more thrilled when he pulled out a coin out of her ear. ❝ you're quite talented, huh? i can only sing. ❞

❝ all right, i’ll lead the way, ❞ she said, forcing a small smile (she hoped it would turn genuine soon). betty didn’t want to stay in the little cafe for too long; she’d already said so much to the barista, and now that natasha was here she wanted to forget it. she lead them outside, walking down the road towards the restaurant.  ❝ i haven’t been here since i went with you, i think it’s an official natasha-betty hang-out spot, ❞ she chuckled. ❝ do you think they’ll remember us? ❞   

natasha heard a few bits of sadness in her voice, but she wasn't about to call it out on her. she didn't want to force her to say what's on her mind. ❝ an official natasha-betty hang-out spot it is! ❞ she cheered. ❝ i like to think so, i mean, my heart would figuratively break if they forgot me. ❞ she placed both of her hands on top of each other on her heart. that place reminded her of home so much.

“Everyone? Yeah pretty much, I’d like to think of it as a special skill..one of many,” he joked in agreement. “Ah! Ryou Fu,” he countered placing a hand on his chest and giving a slight lean forward in an informal bow. “St North..now why does that sound familiar,” he asked more to himself than to her. Since the guardians protected the children of the earth he had heard of them from his father but he couldn’t be too sure she was at all connected.

❝ oh? so there are other skills you’ve yet to introduce me to. ❞ natasha raised a brow, curious as a cat. ❝ nice meetin’ you ryou. ❞ she said with a smile, reciprocating the informal little bow he did, but this time she held up her imaginary skirt, with two delicate fingers and tipped her head. ❝ psh, st. north is such a common name. ❞ natasha fanned her hand.

riordan hadn’t meant to stare and watch the dance class. he had a free period, the professor being stuck in his driveway and unable to make it in time for the lecture. so he wandered and found himself in the arts wing and quite specifically, the dance studio. he watched the dance class go through drills and stretches. he sighed… his eyes longing to join them. however, he felt he didn’t have the feet for it anymore.

he hadn’t danced since his father died.

natasha always had an immense appreciation from art. she reckoned it started from her dad, always creating new inventions, toys and other gizmos he would conjure up in the toyshop. and as time went by, the forms of art she’d been exposed to had been absorbed into her mind and created a love for it. thus, making her gaze into the dance class. though she wasn’t the only one.

❝ they’re pretty good, huh? ❞ she nudged him softly, chewing on some caramel flavoured popcorn.

betty nodded, as if confirming that natasha’s name was indeed ‘natasha’. at the question, she looked to the barista and they shook their head. ❝ sorry, not this late, ❞ they admitted. betty looped her arm around natasha’s. ❝ if you want, i can take you to the russian place. my treat? syrniki again? ❞ she managed a smile. 

natasha pouted as she heard the news of the lack of pancakes, but quickly regained her bubbly composure as she was being treated to syrniki. ❝ i would love that! ❞ she bounced on her heels. though natasha was bright and cheery she found that these aspects were lacking with betty and it made her worry.

she jumped at the same time, realising that it was natasha she was facing.  ❝ nat, ❞ betty breathed a sigh of relief.  ❝ i could ask you the same thing – did you – you wanna grab something quick? before they close? ❞ she asked, biting her lip and gesturing behind her. the barista gave an awkward smile and a wave.

❝ hi, i’m natasha. ❞ the st. north smiled at the barista’s direction, tilting her head to the side. natasha had always felt the need to introduce herself properly. ❝ do they have pancakes? ❞ she asked betty, then turned her head towards the barista. ❝ do you serve pancakes this late? ❞ a small laugh escaped her lips.

He gave her a two finger salute in response, “Well coming from someone as good looking as you that means a lot.” He laughed with a nod at her comment, “Oh the books were great, the movies sucked majorly though, I agree.”

“…so…it’s a little weird, right? i mean, he just kind of…left? and i feel…i dunno like i was ready to make the jump, ‘cause that’s what i was telling everyone i would do but then…there was no one to jump to, y’know?” betty sighed, leaning over the counter. the barista nodded.

the coffee shop had been empty the past hour, coming up to closing time, and with no one else to talk to at that moment, betty had struck up a conversation with the barista. they’d been talking for a good ten minutes, until mid-sentence, the barista pointed at something behind betty. 

“– and i just think – oh, wait, is someone behind me?” she spun around, gasping, “ah, i’m so sorry!”

natasha suddenly popped up—like literally jumped out of a portal—in a coffee shop somewhere in town. ❝ ouch, ❞ she hissed softly. ❝ that ride was a bit bumpy. ❞ she held her head in her hands, wobbling around the shop until she regained her balance.

❝ betty? ❞ she smiled. ❝ what are you doing here? ❞ or the better question was how did natasha transported her self via snow globe in a place she didn’t know.
