not for the first time I am thinking about lemony, smoking outside the hotel denouement next to the taxi. lemony who smokes and doesn’t remember the exact sequence of events that led him to start, but knows he was young when he did, that he was addicted well before he was meant to have been allowed to buy them for himself. lemony who starts smoking only a couple of years after he remembered having some youthful idea that he would never be foolish enough to, and adults shouldn’t be encouraged to, until the world taught him that it wasn’t as simple as that and he changed his mind. lemony who once in his youth thought at least it gave him something of an air of mystery. but now it’s just another curse, one he doesn’t have the energy to try to break.

the great thing with asoue is if your fav character is anyone who lemony canonically dislikes you can literally say "well that wouldnt have happened" or "lemonys an unreliable narrator hes just trying to make them look bad" about any piece of canon that u dont like. in this essay i will be explaining why eswell is real and canon and true and how lemony snicket hates lesbians

Random Headcannon #9?

Now I don't think vfd it's an ancient organization, but it is definitely older than we think. I'm my personal opinion I think it was founded in the late 1600s, but sightings of a group of people carrying brass spyglasses have been around since the early 1700s. I also think that the crack that predates the schism happened sometime in the late 1800s.

So, when the actual schism happened around the time the sugarbowl gen was 4/5 years old, it was probably sometime in the mid-1920s (if the main series is set in the 60s) but yeah that's all my thoughts for now.

I'm going to be frank, I switch between making Ernest truly evil and making him more redeemable. on one hand him being evil kind of dilutes him down to just another fighterstarter. but on the other hand, it adds to both Dewey and Frank and it alludes to them being more morally grey. Especially to maybe not condone their brother's actions but to turn a blind eye to some of them.

But also making Ernest more so morally grey opposed to evil, takes some of the nuance from the fact that the denouements being on opposite sides of the schism.

genuinely a series of unfortunate events has one of the best plots I’ve ever read/watched

a bunch of children getting tangled up in the mistakes their parents made and the history of people they never knew, all of which is connected in ways they’ll never understand and no one seems willing to explain

murders and arsons and love affairs and villains who knew good people and hurt good people, and secret organizations, and all of it is connected. and they didn’t ask to be here. they didn’t ask to be a part of this. yet here they are, and everywhere they go seems to lead back to what happened with olaf and their parents.
