It had been an absolutely insane 24 hours. Last few weeks, really. After stressing over every little thing, from the flowers to the food to the rearranged and then rearranged again seating arrangements, the actual wedding was over and the reception was in full swing. There were under 50 people there, which was almost unheard of for a modern royal wedding, but in the interest of keeping things small and doable, there’d been a hard mental limit for the girl (and her parents… mostly her parents).

Was it enough to make sure Nate was comfortable? Maybe not. She still remembered what had happened during the first ball they attended together. But hopefully it helped just a little bit to know that everyone in that room was actually a friend. No press allowed. Very few authorized plus ones.

Simply enjoying the fact that the stressful part was over, Liv was busy trying to ascertain if the guests were having a nice time when she felt a squeeze of her hand and immediately turned her attention to Nate. Her husband. Still crazy.

“You are one of the only people that can deliver that compliment and actually fully mean it,” she pointed out, returning his smile. “You look better, I promise. We did it.”

“Yeah well, demi-god so, I have history with them.” He didn’t, not really, but Liv already knew that. She knew everything about him, something that still floored Nate. He had never really been the sharing type. Then again, he also had never been the falling in love type and yet just moments earlier he had stood in front of far too many people for his tastes and promised to love the woman next to him for the rest of his life. So, it seemed things changed.

“Yeah. We did it. We’re married. You’re...my wife.” The word felt odd coming from his mouth, though Nate knew it wasn’t weird in the sense that it felt wrong. More so it felt surreal, something he had never expected to be possible - something he had never wanted before meeting Olivia. “Liv...the wedding was amazing. You’re amazing. I don’t know how you managed to pull it off, and don’t say my help because we both know I hardly did anything beyond gathering people and laying down the ground rules, but it was perfect.”

Ava: Right. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up at all. Even as a joke. I don't know how to use my head sometimes.

Ava: What's your silverware color preference?

Nate: It's fine. I know we'll have to have a kid. Liv is a royal and she'll been an heir.

Nate: Ava, think about this for a second. Do you think, ever, during my time on the Isle, I thought of preferred silverware color? Ever.

As cliche as it might be, Emerald loved herself a wedding, especially one that was as iconic as an Isle born marrying an elite royal. Olivia was someone she knew pretty well, she wasn’t sure she’d call them super close friends, but their mothers were a part of those iconic princesses meaning lots of play dates as little ones. Love was in the air, she adored that for both Nate and Liv, and she took a swig of her champagne as she lingered on the sidelines while her date disappeared to mingle to the masses. Sure, she was a little selfish with Dev’s time given that he was so aloof, but she can manage on her own…an independent woman, just like her mother. Although she wasn’t left on her own for long, the groom of the night approaching her, and she raised a brow at him with a small smile.

“Me? Well, I couldn’t refuse the man of the hour.” And with that, she knocked back the rest of her champagne, placing the empty flute onto the table before allowing him to take her hand and guide her to the dance floor, “You been taking dance lessons, Thana?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” They hadn’t been as formal as one would have probably expected from a man about to get married, but they had been formal enough that Nate had learned a few things. Dancing really wasn’t his specialty, but this was Auradon and if they were going to have an Auradon wedding, well they were going to do this right he supposed. That meant learning how to dance properly. Well, more so it meant learning how to manage out there on the floor enough so he didn’t make a fool of himself and where he could complete the first dance with his new wife.

Leading her out onto the dance floor, Nate offered her a soft smile before they began. This wasn’t hard, and it was a little easier knowing that people weren’t watching his as close as they had been during the first dance. It made the nerves a little bit better, but just a little. “These things are...a lot. A lot of people here. Liv and I wanted a small wedding, but I think our versions of small are...kinda different.”

Ava: No kids ever or no kids in the future? Royals are big on kids. At least one so someone can take over the throne. But Camelot is infinitely different than the other kingdoms. My dad is very old fashion.

Ava: marriage makes people boring. I'll tell him to buy you some nice crystal serving dishes.

Nate: ....don't know, honestly.

cori peered at her brother thoughtfully as he confessed that he’d been overwhelmed by all of those eyes and the unknown. truthfully, she wasn’t sure why marriage and the wedding was worth it if it left so many nerves and questions in its wake, but perhaps it was time for cori to stop shrugging her shoulders at her brother and accept that his choices were different from hers. and if she wanted to be a real sister and a good twin, she could be a little more solution-oriented. “i do want to hear about this,” she reassured him. if cori wouldn’t listen to his fears, who would? “honestly, i’ve been wondering about that myself.” she’d always assumed he’d skip off into the sunset into charmington and only come back into auradon city for balls and parades and the like, but now that olivia was a student at auradon university again, maybe it wasn’t that cut and dry. “but isn’t having someone to figure it out with kind of the point of marriage? i mean, it’s not exactly like she’s gotten to choose what she did and where she went most of her life either–” cori definitely wouldn’t categorize olivia and herself as close, but she could tell that olivia wasn’t exactly comfortable in this intense spotlight either. “–so just talk about it. draw the map together.” despite her resolution to stop doing so, she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. “it’s definitely not a rager, but the food’s good and the alcohol’s better. and at least hook is here, thanks for that.”

“Trust me, I want to. And I think Liv does too. Having everything set out for her down to her adult life probably wasn’t anything she really wanted and obviously it’s not something she followed through with, considering - “ Nate gestured towards their surroundings then. Liv had changed her future when she had decided to marry him rather than going through with the arrangement with Mitch, so there was some sense of taking control of their own lives. “It is, yeah. Liv and I will figure out our future together. Where we’ll be going, kids, no kids, all of that I guess.” The very idea of having children scared Nate to his core, though he hoped it wasn’t too obvious. Then again, if there was anyone he had to pick to see his true fears, Cori would be the obvious choice. At the mention of Hook’s attendance, he chuckled softly. He hadn’t exactly been thrilled to send the invite, but that was Cori’s best friend and in some twisted way, he was linked to Nate, like it or not for either of them. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t mention it. Think you’ll ever do this? Settle down, have a boring wedding where I get to slip you a flask to get through it all?”

A steady and secure life I guess. What do I wish I’d never experienced? I…really want to say the Isle, but I guess that’s not really true. The Isle made me who I am and everything led to here where I am happy so - There were moments, with my father, that I would erase if I could, not just for me, but for my sister too.

just as nate found her nestled into a corner near the champagne tower, cori had just thought of yet another reason why she currently hated her brother and hated being here; the wedding being on new year’s day meant that instead of being out on the biggest party night of the year, instead she’d been here, attending rehearsals and fittings and bachelorette parties. and that was just the cherry on top of this was so not him, she barely knew anyone worth knowing at this wedding, and it felt like her brother was leaving her forever. cori didn’t hate him, not really. but it was either stay angry and aloof, or get sucked into the emotion and pretend to understand something she was sure she never would. as nate confessed that her presence meant a lot to him, she couldn’t help but to smile and feel a little choked up, although it was more from a feeling of loss than sentimentality. he was so formal with her sometimes lately, almost like they hadn’t spent years side by side on the isle, doling out threats as children. “i wouldn’t have been anywhere else,” she admitted, even though she’d just been wishing she was moments ago. “so, um, how do you feel? you were looking a little grey there, before.” she’d kept offering him sips from her flask, secretly hoping his nerves would amount to total reluctance and she’d have to help him run away from the alter. but somehow, this seemed to be what he actually wanted, even if the newlyweds weren’t as obviously true love and soulmates to cori as they seemed to be to everyone else.

They weren’t the same, Nate knew that. Even if he liked to lie to himself at times, pretend that they were still the same twin duo they had been back on the Isle, they weren’t. He couldn’t even say they were better now because even that seemed to be a lie, but they were at least together. That was something. That was everything. Letting out a bit of a nervous chuckle, Nate nodded. The quick swigs of booze had been helpful to calm his nerves as it felt like every second he was on the verge of a panic attack - crowds, they just really would never be his thing. Maybe he should have thought about that before asking one of Auradon’s super involved royals to be his wife.

“Yeah...crowds. It got a little overwhelming, but I’m good. I’m...happy.” It felt odd to say, almost as if it was hollow in a way, though Nate knew the statement was true. He was happy, more so than he had been in a long time. Yet still there was a bittersweet feeling there. “Still nervous too, I guess. Marriage is a lot. Marrying Olivia is a lot and I’m not really sure what happens from here. Where I go, what are the plans for the future. Everything feels mapped out but I was never the one drawing the map, you know?” Reaching up, he pinched the bridge of his nose before quickly shaking his head. “Sorry, sorry. This is dumb. No one wants to hear about this stuff. How about you? Are you enjoying yourself? At least some?”

Ava: I don't cry. I'm physically incapable of it. The lady in the lake stole all my tears.

Ava: Lukewarm feet are good. I imagine that's what most people feel. I'm happy for you both. My father is asking what sort of wedding present you guys would like to have?

Nate: I think that's a better question to ask Liv. I haven't really thought about that stuff but I'm sure she has.

Nate and Cori Thana, twins, partners in crime, each others lifelines. He knew there was no way he could make it throughout the day without her. Finding his twin wasn’t exactly hard, it never had been, not really. Call it what you would, magic, twin telepathy, whatever. All he knew was there was always a feeling that guided him towards his sister and he wondered if she had ever felt the same experience. Whatever. The reception was in full swing now, people seeming to enjoy themselves dancing and laughing in their conversations as Nate made his way over to her. “Cori, I’m glad you were here, for all of it.” This wasn’t easy for her, he knew that. He knew that and yet still he had asked her to be part of his wedding party because truth was, he was selfish. He was selfish enough that he needed his sister there by his side for this. “It means a lot to me you know.” @cori-thana

lumiére had always taught them to be gracious. he had always instilled in them certain values and beliefs that he had imagined would serve them well, in life ; most of them borrowed from observing how the children of his royal friends and employers were raised. no invitation that crossed their path was to be refused, unless it was simply impossible to ATTEND. it was nice to be nice, and it was better to make a marked effort when others had extended the same courtesy ; just one of the reasons behind noémie finding themselves at the wedding of olivia white and nate thana, dolled up and smile on. it was a beautiful affair. that, emmy couldn’t deny. love in such a pure form was a wonder to behold, and they could appreciate that, at the very least.

they weren’t seeking the groom out when they made a beeline towards the only open set of doors out to a secluded balcony. they weren’t even giving in to the desire buried deep down for a breath of fresh air and a moment of silence ( they had been taught that such things simply didn’t abide, in events such as these ). a glass of champagne had been spilled down their front ( it was almost assuredly their bad luck kicking in ), and plan one was to dab it with a napkin in privacy before admitting defeat and finding a bathroom. in fact, they were in the process of doing so when nate spoke up, startling them, somewhat, when they had thought it was empty.

“disaster struck,” they flashed a sheepish smile, giving a tiny wave of the napkin that was clenched in one fist ( and not feeling they had to point out the spreading stain down their front ). it was only once they refocused on him that they noticed the way he clung to the balcony’s railing ; white knuckled. panicked. on his wedding day, too. their expression clouded. “you seem tense,” it seemed the best way to frame it, “is there anything that i can do?”

Normally he was better at this, getting away from people before they could see his...issues. It certainly wasn’t something he shared with everyone, nor was it something he wanted everyone in Auradon to know about. So, being caught this way wasn’t doing much for his overall state as Nate willed himself to loosen his grip on the railing, knowing there would probably be red marks on his palms later.

He took the scene in, the stain on their shirt and the way they waved the napkin around. He supposed he could understand the logic. Noémie seemed to have just wanted to get away from the crowd to deal with an incident as he had. “I’m fine.” His voice was soft and airy, not exactly the type of confidence that he was wanting to put out there, but it was the best he could do it seemed. “Just...needed some air.”

Honestly, he had tried to get through the whole reception without an incident, he had. When need be he had excused himself off to the side, had tried to keep his breathing at a steady pace so as not to alert anyone of his discomfort. Yet, that hadn’t really been enough. Eventually, the inevitable happened. He hadn’t really been planning on being out on the dance floor again, not when he had just finished a dance and really needed to stop his heart racing, but it was also hard to pull away from the tugging on his hand as he had been pulled into the fray. Then there was the fact that they had ended up in the middle of the group during a song that did not lend itself to distance between dancers. Quickly Nate had started to feel his pulse speed up and small beads of sweat began to move down his forehead.

With a rushed - and possibly seen as rude - apology, Nate practically tore away from the dance floor, rushing himself to the nearest balcony. He wasn’t even sure if they were allowed to open the doors out to them just yet, but fuck it. He would ask for forgiveness later if that was necessary. His heart still raced in his chest as he clutched onto the railing, breaths still jagged. He hadn’t even noticed another person joining him out there until it was too late to pretend like he was anything but not okay.

Dance floors weren’t really his typical haunt given how confining and crowded they tended to be, but it seemed not actually participating in any of it wasn’t an option. Nate watched as his wife danced with her friend, chuckling softly before he made his way over to a girl he didn’t know too well, but well enough to know her first name. Reaching out his hand towards her, he offered her a welcoming smile. If he was going to have to play the part of a good reception host, might as well go all in, right? At least, he was going to try and play good host until the crowded nature of the dance floor took over and potentially launched him into a panic attack, but that wasn’t something Nate really wanted to think about right now. Instead, his attention went back onto the girl before him.

It was official, he really hated parties. His own wedding reception was no exception. Still, as he looked over at the woman sitting beside him, he had to admit there was one benefit to the whole deal. It wasn’t every day he was able to show off someone as beautiful as Olivia in her wedding dress off to a room full of people. Even if they did have to sit there at the table, soon to be dealing with people coming to congratulate them and take pictures, it seemed worth it in order to call her his wife.

Reaching over, he placed his hand over hers and gave it a soft squeeze as he gave her an even softer smile. Nate leaned in, in part because there was noise surrounding them and in part because he wanted the exchange to be just for them. “Liv, you look beautiful. You’ve always looked beautiful but today...today you honestly look like a goddess, one who could put Aphrodite to shame.” @oliviarwhite
