He cleared his throat a bit in embarrassment. Since when did he get all flustered around his sister of all people. There was a time when words didn’t even seem to have to be spoken and they knew what was going on. Yet, here they were. “Yeah well…I figured it had to be said twice. It has been a while and we should really solve that.” It had been more than a while, longer than Nate really wanted to admit. He hadn’t been trying to neglect his sister, just things seemed to get in the way. He had classes before, she still had classes, he had work, she had her gigs, and now there was the wedding. There just was only so much time in the day and things didn’t line up as well as they used to in order to spend time together. Excuses, he knew, but that was the best he had.
At the mention of the wedding, Nate glanced around, seeing the dress shop as well and letting out a soft breath. He hadn’t expected her to bring it up so soon, or at all really. It wasn’t exactly a secret that his sister was not the biggest fan of the wedding, or better yet what the wedding meant for them as a dream team twin duo. Nate nodded slightly before shoving his hands into his pockets, wanting to get them out of the cold night air. “You will, yes. We have a color theme, navy and red for…well us I guess? Liv’s family color is red as one of them and I know we don’t have family colors or anything, but when I thought about it, I liked blue.” His shoulders rose in a shrug and he hoped that Cori didn’t entirely catch onto the slight embarrassment the admission caused. It hadn’t been an easy conversation as Liv spoke about her family colors with him realizing that they hardly had family anything, much less signature colors. The decision to go with navy had just been something he liked and they were working with it. “You’re part of my…wedding party I guess it’s called, so navy. That is…if it’s still something you’re up for?”
before nate even had a chance to fully answer her, cori gestured deftly to her car and unlocked the doors, not one to bear the elements just for the benefit of an uninterrupted conversation. there conversation easily continued nevertheless even as they slid into cori’s car and she swiftly cranked the engine, adjusting the heat so it was up as high as it would go, though it would inevitably be a few minutes before they felt any warm air. the dark-haired girl shot her brother a dubious look as she maneuvered onto the roads, hearing him stumble over the concept of family colors and wedding details. “considering our father is the god of the underworld, i figured our family color would be black,” she asserted dryly. she didn’t respond to the rest of his comments quite yet, knowing that, like her, like the majority of the vk’s in auradon, the number of people around to stand by his side paled in comparison to any of the royals. hell, most of them didn’t even know both parents, much less had a royal lineage that traced back centuries. so even though she didn’t get it and surely it would be a complicated day, emotionally, which cori always strived to avoid, there was no way she wasn’t going to be close to nate on his wedding day.
“the wedding’s like a few weeks away, i’m not gonna back out now,” cori reassured him, shaking her head incredulously to herself at the idea. something told her that nate wasn’t fully grasping the amount of planning and detailing went into wedding and the wedding party, which was really saying something. cori had never even been to a wedding, but a couple seconds of scrolling through reality tv channels apparently told her more than nate knew. “navy’s fine,” she began, secretly pleased it was another dark color in her wheelhouse instead of a bright pink or yellow or something, “but i think i need to know more about the dress code than the color.” with a huff as she took a turn, the light from her blinker growing brighter and dimmer on their faces “i guess i’ll text olivia about it. you’re clearly not helping her with much wedding planning, are you?”
