I recently took a trip to New York. I try to get up there a few times a year. This trip I had 3 goals. Stay and spend more time in Brooklyn, take some photos comparing film and digital, and buy a motorcycle jacket. I'm happy to say that I accomplished all three. Was able to visit the classic Schott store and get that motorcycle jacket I've wanted while spending most my time in Brooklyn and Williamsburg. What's interesting is comparing the digital shots I took with my Fuji x100s with the film from my Hasselblad. I have been disgruntled with digital for a while. I've used cannon 5dmk2, Nikon d800, GH2 all of it. I just feel that for me the don't feel good in my hand and it does not feel right. I'm not a professional photographer so for me it is a hobby. So I have sold most my gear except the Fuji x100s which for a digital camera I do love. It feels right and that leaf shutter is incredible. I don't feel embarrassed to cary it and it just feels good in my hand. I do like the shots it produces. HOWEVER, I'm in love with film. Nothing compares. The shots I get with the Hasselblad don't need edited, no filters necessary. It's film. It's organic. I would rather hold it and touch it and have something that exists rather then a raw file. It was good to have the experience of shooting the same subjects with both digital and film and edit them side by side. For me, the choice is clear. I'm a film guy. I'll still take shots with the Fuji for fun but film has my heart.
