Nate working on an art project outdoors.
“Yes, they’re important. They say a lot about people.” Rosie told him absently, humming as she fiddled with Sage’s small hands. “I like Sage Olivia. Its pretty.” She commented, giving a little chuckle at his laugh as she nodded. “Not joking, not at all.” She glanced down at the ring in the box, feeling her cheeks flush despite the warmth in the room. “I will marry you, Nate.” She told him softly, leaning over slightly to steal a kiss.
Nate continued to watch the pair with an absent smile, still blown away by the little person right before him. “Me too... I think we’ve done it.” He commented with a laugh. “Oh thank Merlin... You have no idea how worried you had me!” He complained pitifully, leaning in for a kiss. He pulled back quickly, lifting the ring out of the box before he slid it onto her finger. “You have literally made me the happiest man alive today.” He promised her, leaning back over to kiss her, an arm encircling Sage as well.
Despite her superb hearing, Astrid jumped a little at his hand. “That’s a long, never-ending story. I don’t want to be a burden by putting this all on your shoulders, you already have enough to think about.” She spoke softly, fidgeting with her fingers. The tip of her nail pressing deep into the skin of her palm causing the slightest amount of red to appear due to her strength. “No, there’s nothing anyone can do.”
Despite her reaction to his touch, he didn’t retract his hand and instead rubbed soothing circles on her shoulder. “No Astrid... You’re not a burden, I’m here to listen if you want me to.” He assured her, watching her through concerned eyes. He didn’t notice the blood pooling in her palms, instead watching her expression and shaking his head in disagreement at her final words. “I’m sure that’s not the case Astrid... You’re not alone.”
“Me too. She needs a middle name, so we need to think through that one.” She reminded him, her eyes staying locked at the child in her arms. She couldn’t take in anything besides the child, unable to believe that she was finally in her arms. A slight smile found its way onto her lips at that comment. “Oh, to your proposal, you ninny. You were proposing, right? Because, you can replay it if you want.” She told him, glancing up and giving him a smile specifically reserved for him.
“A middle name...” He mused, looking between their daughter and Rosie easily. “You know... Sage...” He stopped himself as he pondered. “Sage Alice? Sage Claire? Sage... Olivia?” He suggested, biting down on his lip as he thought of some more possibilities. Once again, he was caught off guard by her final comment, though the smile that decorated his face after her answer was blinding. “You’re not joking, right?” He complained softly, reaching into his pocket and pulling out the ring again. “I want a bit of a reply... You never let me get the words out.” He teased, grin growing even wider. “Rosie Hunter... Will you marry me?”
“Sage. Potatoes. Sage potatoes. Sage flowers. Sage, my little girl.” She glanced up at Nate with her smile widening. “I like it. A lot. And it fits the famiy tradition as well. Welcome to the family little Sage.” She told the baby in her arms, glancing down at her with a happy sigh. Randomly, she bit her lip and said, “Yes Nate, by the way.”
“I love it.” He agreed, grin only growing across his face at the decision. “It’s perfect for her...” A little laugh escaped him and he slipped down onto the chair beside her bed, the happiness inside him only growing tenfold as he took in the sight of his love and child. At her final comment, his brows knit together and he tilted his head to the side. “Yes to what, love?” He asked in confusion, figuring she must be partly loopy due to the long labour and pain potions.
Rosie glanced up and felt her eyes filling with tears. “Oh we didn’t…did we? Well, I ate those damn potatoes of yours constantly during my pregnancy, what were they called again?” She asked absently, accepting the little girl from Nate and filing with hear immediately boost with warmth.
He looked over at her, somewhat confused by the rather random change of conversation. “What? Sage?” He asked, before his eyes widened somewhat as he thought about it. “Sage...” He repeated musingly, one hand resting on Rosie’s shoulder, the other on their baby’s back. “What do you think?”
“Yes, yes you can say that! As you’re not giving birth!” She groaned, burying her face into her hands. Hours later* “Finally.” She groaned, collapsing against the bed as the sound of crying filled the room. “What is it?”
He struggled to maintain a straight face at her grumbling, instead continuing to continue to talk soothingly to her...
“She’s beautiful...” He told her, laughing shakily as he accepted their beautiful daughter, bringing her over for Rosie to see and hold. “But we never decided on a name for a girl...” He commented, eyes filling with tears slightly as emotion overwhelmed him.
Rosie clenched her eyes shut, whimpering again. “Fuck. This kid, hates me. It must hate me or something. Is it because of all the pickles?” She whined, wincing because of another contraction that went through her. “Ow, ow, ow, ow!”
“Of course it doesn’t hate you! Labour is just.... laborious....” He commented, continuing to stroke her shoulder supportingly. “Are you craving anything?” He asked her gently, anxious to do anything to improve her comfort.
The overwhelming amount of guilt caused Astrid’s eyes to fill with water, that’s all she was good for these days. Crying. It was a trend, between her heightened emotions, the fight that led to the end of her and Theo. All of it. She just wanted to forget, she just wanted an escape, but yet all the walking reminders were on a boat with her for the entirety of the summer. “A lot happened, a lot has been happening.” The words came out hoarse, she hadn’t been sleeping. Not only because she had been without a blood source, but because of the tears too. It hurt.
Her tears came as something of a surprise and he immediately felt bad for having caused them, moving further into the room, he perched himself on the edge of the bed and set a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “Astrid? What’s happened?” He asked gently, deeply concerned by her behaviour and anxious to help. “Is there anything I can do?” He queried, brows knitting together as he struggled to come up with an explanation for her uncharacteristic behaviour.
Rosie shrugged slightly. “She’s Tyler’s new girlfriend apparently.” She clung to his hand as tightly as possible, trying to breathe through the contractions.
Rosie switched from Patrick to Nate, holding his hand as tightly as possible. “Fuck.” She whimpered, feeling the contesting hit. “When the hell can I get this kid out!?
“Ah...” He replied simply, the memories of his last run-in with Tyler a little too fresh in his mind...
Nate winced slightly at the amount of pressure being exerted on his hand before he manned up and rubbed her shoulder soothingly. “It’s okay... You’re okay... You can do this.” He repeated, looking towards the nurse after the question. “You’re 8cm dilated... You’re almost there.”
“You’re right you know… Because we are both bi…” He commented with a smile. “It’s barely started.” He reminded her, shooting her a sympathetic expression. As he returned to Rosie all tucked up in be pd, he shot her a loving smile before he placed the tea on the bedside table. “No problem love… He didn’t answer so I’ve just texted him… I’m sure he’ll be here soon.”
“Exactly. Although again, you look scarily like Zoe, so that just scares me a bit.” She teased him, tilting her head to the side for a moment. After pushing herself up into a sitting position, she sipped at the tea and put it down. As soon as she put it down, another contraction hit and she hissed through clenched teeth. “Okay…fuck, fuck alright.”
"Oy! I don't even know this Zoe you keep talking about..." He complained poutingly, wincing alongside her as another contraction hit. "This is going to be a long night." He muttered, before moving forward to brush her hair back from her face, offering his hand for her to squeeze. *five hours later* Nate had come back after a quick bathroom break, to relieve Patrick from the deathgrip Rosie had his hand in. He's changed into clothes that finally fit him as he leant forward to press a quick kiss to her temple. "You're due for another contraction in 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2 and..." He shut up, having calculated right.
If people from Poland are called ""poles"" are people from Holland called ""holes?""
If the plural of goose is geese... Why isn’t the plural of moose, meese? Don’t question the English language- especially when Holland is actually called The Netherlands.
“You never know.” She shrugged, sticking her tongue out at him. “It feels like forever.” She grumbled, resting her head back against the pillows as a heavy sigh left her once she was dressed and snuggled underneath the sheets. “Tea.” She greeted when Nate came back, giving him a slight smile. “Thankyou.”
"You're right you know... Because we are both bi..." He commented with a smile. "It's barely started." He reminded her, shooting her a sympathetic expression. As he returned to Rosie all tucked up in bed, he shot her a loving smile before he placed the tea on the bedside table. "No problem love... He didn't answer so I've just texted him... I'm sure he'll be here soon."
Nate: Rosie's in labour.
Nate: Where are you?
Nate: She's asking for you...
She couldn’t stop the snort that left her lips. “Well, we could’ve done with you like this nine months ago, huh?” She teased back, nodding her head at the nurse. “Um, about twenty minutes? It’s only really vague, but between twenty and fifteen.” She elaborated, nodding her head as she got off the bed slightly and started pulling her top over her head. “Fine. I’m fine. Just…tea. I want tea. Lex give’s me tea when I freak. Tea. And call Patrick.”
“Pity we probably wouldn’t have gotten together if that had been the case...” He reminded her with a smile. “Twenty? She’s had like three different lots...” He told the nurse who nodded, jotted it down and wandered off. “Tea? I hope they have decaf here...” He murmured under his breath as he hurried over to the tea station, pulling out his phone as he did so. When the phone went to voicemail, he grimaced and texted him.
“Like you’d want to carry it.” She complained back, giving his arm a little shove. “I suppose I could, and it’d be hilarious to hear your really, really bad gaelic.” She replied, nodding her head in approval. She smiled at the nurse despite herself, and then groaned as another contraction hit. “Fuck me!”
“Well I technically could right now...” He commented drily, shooting her a light wink before he became serious as the nurse started checking her over. “I’m glad you’d enjoy taking pleasure in my humiliation...” He teased, standing by as the nurse worked. “How far apart are your contractions?” The nurse asked calmly, taking her pulse before he pulled a curtain around the bed. “I’ll leave you to get changed before I start the examination.” The nurse reassured her, before ducking out to grab the things he’d need. Nate looked over, biting down on his lip as she swore. “Is there anything I can do?” He asked gently.
“Alright, alright. Well, somewhat.” She laughed, rolling her eyes at him. “Damn it, I can’t call you a dick brain in Gaelic anymore cos now you’ll know what I’m saying. That’s sweet, though.” She told him, pecking him on the cheek gently. “I’ve got this .I’ve totally got this.” She squeezed his hand back, not used to them being around about the same size limbs wise.
“Oy! It’s not my fault that female’s are the ones who carry the actual baby!” He complained with a laugh, nudging her shoulder softly. “Well I mean you could... But I’d probably just reply in some extremely accented gaelic of my own.” He teased. “You can do this.” He repeated, before the male nurse came out and quickly grasping the situation, hurried Rosie into a bed.
