On my hook: Original crochet tote bag for a workshop and pattern
Yes, I know there are hundreds of crochet bags, market totes, eco-totes on Ravelry, and now, I’m going to add to the bounty. I wanted a lunch bag sized tote that was mesh (aka uses less yarn) and could cinch or tie shut without having to make a knot or bow. Viola! The Big Snack Bag was born!
For my prototype, I created a small mesh bag in Lily Sugar & Cream WW cotton and I love the way it turned out, but i’m wondering how this bag would work in a DK weight mercerized cotton? Or nylon? I don’t know why I used the same pattern for a thinner weight yarn and a smaller hook, but I did and now I have mesh tote for a small snack. Perfect for a little kid tote. Not exactly what i wanted, so i’ll most likely gift it to a friend who has a little kid. I ended up making another tote, adding an additional increase round, a few more rows for height, and that solved the size issue.
The Big Snack Bag is a great pattern for beginning crocheters that uses many basic skills. The pattern uses the following techniques: single crochet (sc), chain (ch), slip stitch (slst), and working in the round. The bag is worked from the bottom up, increasing to create the base, then continuing upward for the height. The handle is created in in two rounds, all in one piece. For the advanced crocheters, you could create the handle with a fsc chain and call it a day! Either way, it’s a project for all skill levels.
