Rohesia’s story
The context
Rohesia Vindemia is one of the last remaining countesses in this part of the world.
She comes from the lineage of the Vindemia, a long-lived dynasty of tiefling nobles related to vineyard agriculture and owners of wine cellars whose products are exported to all the taverns of the world. Their beginnings were humble tieflings from Menyrca who tried their luck in this field in the Valeari region and quickly triumphed due to the quality of their products.
Their wines are characterized by a very particular flavor that is not found in other brands, since their wine has a secret ingredient that has been inherited from generation to generation and that was soon the key to their success in the business that has catapulted this dynasty to a level of life of real wealthy, being named Counts of the Valeari region for their economic contribution to this region.
In addition to vineyards and wineries, they also currently run other businesses related to agriculture, although lately the droughts in the lands of Valeari have led them to suffer a crisis and their economic power has waned.
Her family
This family has suffered in recent years from several family conflicts, for various reasons:
Rohesia's parents, paternal grandfather and paternal uncle died because they (tried to) blow up the Vindemia palace located in Ma'lorkia in a vengeful act of small businessmen because the Vindemia's businesses were choking small economies. The east wing of the Vindemia palace was destroyed and due to the force of the explosions all the people who were there at the time were killed. Only Rohesia, Piers and grandmother Jehanne survived at the time of the attack. Rohesia was only 8 years old when all this happened. This meant a crisis in the Vindemia dynasty, so temporarily Rohesia's father's younger sister Irma Vindemia (fifth in the line of succession of the county) was the regent countess of Valeari until Rohesia, who was second in the line of succession at the time before the events, came of age.
Irma Vindemia is married to Aulis Malone, a well-known marquis linked to shady business and favored deals with certain problematic people and sects (such as the Palmarian sect) so, during Irma's regency, Aulis took advantage of this position of power to tighten ties and finance sects and businesses through the coffers of the Vindemia's businesses in a secret way. Rohesia had certain suspicions of these actions until she told her brother and grandmother about them and they were finally uncovered through detectives.
After these illegal financings were discovered, Irma and Aulis were expelled from the regency of the Vindemia dynasty. Although Rohesia was still 17 years and 3 months old, she was officially appointed Countess of Valeari under a decree of authority formulated by her grandmother Jehanne. This has caused a great confrontation between Irma and Aulis with the rest of the family, as they did not want to end the regency and keep the power permanently and change the line of succession. Although the majority supports Rohesia as the new countess of Valeari and maximum authority in the present of the Vindemia, small organizations and sects support Irma and Aulis (but above all Aulis) as authentic successors of the Vindemia dynasty, so there is an Aulinist movement that supports the return to power of the county of Valeari of these two expelled members. They support Aulis since he has more age, maturity, power and influence than Rohesia, whom they distrust because she is young.
As for Rohesia, her character is distrustful, somewhat hostile and quite aggressive at times. Despite the bad experiences in her past, she has grown up with a certain tranquility under the supervision of her grandmother and her aunt during the regency, quite pampered since she was supposedly the heiress of the county of Valeari, linked to the Vindemia family and needed to receive everything necessary to be a well-prepared heiress. Rohesia has a great fascination for roses because it was her parents' favorite plant and she was named after it. She had many rose bushes in the garden of Ma'lorkia's palace, where she as a child played with them a lot and after the conflict roses were a reminiscence of her parents' memory.
The education she received from her uncles was to look down on those below her, since her family was considered a powerful one and she was taught not to give even the effort to have any relationship with commoners. Therefore, her attitude, before the rest of the people who are not nobles, is of a certain arrogance. Many times, this attitude causes her some stress and internal conflict since her parents were quite different in terms of the rest of the family (especially her mother who came from another lineage of nobles much closer and friendlier to the people who were the Delaney, mainly because their power is not as high as the Vindemia) because they (what little Rohesia remembers) insisted on educating her in a much healthier way and even this attitude was reflected in the way they ran the business of the wineries, whose relations with their employees were improving considerably with better treatment and better conditions until the conflict of the palace where her parents died happened.
This conflict, moreover, was something that caused some trauma to Rohesia and Piers: losing her parents suddenly, to whom she was very close, affected her in many ways. In addition, over time, she began to see certain inconsistencies between what was supposed to be the "cause" of that conflict in which her parents died and what she remembered from her childhood. So Rohesia began to suspect that this conflict was organized by her uncles in order to take away the power of the business and the dynasty.
