CHARLES MELTON // have you met APOLLO CORREN/CALO BUR’RIN yet? HE is a TWENTY-SIX year old CISMALE HUMAN. they’re originally from PLANET and now show loyalty to THE REBELLION. they are best known for being a REBELLION SPY, and i hear they’re pretty RESOURCEFUL yet also GUARDED at times; i hope they survive the galactic civil war.
THE PAST
you were born calo bur’rin, and you grew up in the worst version of a family a child could ask for.
your parents didn’t see children, they saw assets. already thieves themselves, they saw a chance. kids with quick hands, big innocent eyes. the kind of children who could get away with anything, no doubt.
they had children, but they saw paydays. and you were taught early on that you were only what you could steal and bring home for them to sell, to give themselves luxuries while you and your siblings lived on scraps.
you didn’t have a chance to know your brother and sister as siblings, though - to the three of you, family were competition. the child who brought home the most got the best, the others were reminded to be better one way or another. and being the middle child, you were often left behind. not as strong as your big brother. not as useful and conniving as your baby sister.
you had your skills, of course. you had nimble hands, and you were a quick thinker. oh, you could talk your way out of anything, fool people into believing whatever you said. and you thrived on it, on faking, on pretending. so much so that you didn’t even really know who you were, after a few years.
but it didn’t matter. no one cared about that, about who was buried beneath the lies you spun. all that mattered was what you brought home. it was never enough, but.. sometimes it kept you out of the worst of it. sometimes.
your brother disappeared, but you didn’t complain. less competition. one less person lashing out at you. one less person around who hated your existence for no reason other than their own self interests.
you didn’t want to admit that you were glad he was gone because he didn’t have to live through the abuse anymore. that would mean admitting you cared for him. and that... well, that wasn’t allowed.
you’re in your mid-teens when the village is attacked by the first order. you don’t know why, you don’t know what they want, but you know you lose what little you had in one day.
and you gain so much more.
your sister disappears in the attack, though. you find out later, from one of the survivors, that she’d been rescued by the resistance. the same selfish sister as always, saving her own skin and leaving her only blood behind. typical, you know. you shouldn’t have expected better from her.
and so, you’re alone.
your skills come in handy, though. you steal enough to survive, you talk your way into anything you need. more often than not you find yourself in a stranger’s bed just for somewhere warm and safe to sleep, without much regard for whatever else may happen.
but being alone has some advantages, it seems. you no longer need to give away everything you find. and when you discover a very busted BD unit, all you can think about is fixing him up, giving him a home too.
BD-12 doesn’t have legs like his rare counterparts, you didn’t have the equipment for that. instead he finds himself with wheels, easier to get around, with little clamps to hold on whenever he perches on your shoulder. you call him buddy, and he’s probably the first friend you’ve ever had.
you’re eighteen when you manage to put together enough money to leave, to escape to another planet where you can do something for yourself. it’s almost too good to be true, when you find a new republic cadet alone, clearly struggling, no one around to help them. and you’ve spent years.. faking, pretending to be something you’re not. why not be someone you’re not?
calo bur’rin was buried that day, left behind with a body that would never be located. apollo corren showed up to his first day at the academy, and you fit right in.
it should’ve been more difficult, to become someone else. but after a lifetime of lies and deception it comes all too easily to you. you settle into the academy easily, you travel around without fail. your talents, it seems, make you a natural spy, poised for espionage to serve the resistance and get back at the first order for what they’d done to your home.
that’s all you focus on. not finding your siblings, you know they don’t care. you’ve heard mention of your sister, but you know better than to seek her out. you’ve left that life, calo’s life, behind. and your brother - well, he’s no where to be found. who knows if he’s even alive anymore?
but you have your life, you have your resistance friends, and you have buddy. and you have a chance to make something of yourself, as apollo corren.
and no one’s going to take it away from you. not this time.
tldr ;;
okay sorry i know that got long so basically calo is the middle bur’rin sibling and grew up in a terrible situation for a long time
he’s from the sequels era
he basically got through it by learning to lie and deceive, becoming a great conman and faking most of his life
when he was eighteen he killed a new republic cadet and took his place, so he’s now living as apollo corren. no one knows who he is except buddy, his droid, and that’s how it will stay.
the only exceptions to this are his siblings. everyone else knows him only as apollo.
uh yes he has a droid yes it looks like bd-1 but with wheels no i don’t regret my life choices about this
he is a resistance spy and will be doing the same kind of work for the rebellion here - meaning he’s good at blending in, convincing people of things, talking people in and out of things. much of who he is as a person himself is buried under the lies and deception he’s played on for years, but it fits perfectly for what he does
THE PRESENT
coming into the past is something of a fresh start for apollo - he hopes there’s no one here who would recognise him and hopefully no risk of running into his siblings or anyone else who might know who he is. he’s always had that niggling fear in the back of his mind that he might get caught out, but here he hopes he can let that go
he’s made a beeline for the rebellion so he can keep doing what he does best - he knows the first order stemmed from the galaxy and that’s more than enough reason not to work against them, and that’s where he plans to stay for as long as he can, or until he has to return to his own time - assuming he does have to at all.
currently apollo is working undercover with the remains of the empire - having arrived here a few months ago and set himself up with someone in the rebellion, he’s been on mission ever since with the remains of the empire’s ISB as a tech guy, collecting and feeding back information where he can. no one knows he’s actually with the rebellion aside from select few people, if you have ideas for how you could be one of them please let me know!
PERSONALITY
apollo is very much a chameleon, he can and will morph to any situation. he has an intense amount of loyalty to the rebellion, the new republic, the resistance etc - but from a behavioural perspective he can adapt very quickly to his surroundings.
generally he comes across as very charming, easy to get along with, outgoing. between his upbringing and his training as a spy he’s somewhat.... morally questionable. his sense of right and wrong can sometimes get skewed, either for the job or to protect himself.
he holds the secret of his past very close, terrified of the resistance finding out and kicking him out for what he’s done, and as a result no one knows who he really is and he’d prefer it to stay that way. he doesn’t talk about his past - he’ll find ways to avoid it or to distract people from talking about it where he can
he’s quite guarded and it will take time for him to open up to people but so long as he’s not pushed too much on a topic he doesn’t want to talk about he’s perfectly friendly, charming, polite. you’ll find his mood shifts very quickly if you do push him the wrong way, though.
