so far the questioning hasn’t been anything apollo wasn’t ready for. it’s a risk you take as soon as you go undercover, knowing the empire won’t exactly be kind to you should you get caught. you’re going to have to face some kind of pain if they catch you, and you have to be ready to hold out until you can escape - or until someone else can get you out. apollo was ready for it.

by the time they strap him up to the table his nose has stopped bleeding and there’s some pretty colourful bruising coming up over his eye and cheekbone. he’s pretty sure his ribs are bruised - but not broken, if he’s got the right idea - but beyond that apollo can’t feel much more damage. which he’s taking as a good sign, except they’re not done yet.

a fresh face makes their appearance right as the soldiers get done with strapping him to the table, and apollo gets the feeling something’s different about this one. at the very least they’re not in standard imperial attire. apollo has a bad feeling about this. “look, i - i don’t know what you think i can tell you, i’m just a tech guy. seriously!” he knows playing dumb won’t work forever, but apollo’s determined to stick to his cover as long as he can. “unless you need something fixed or - network access, that kind of thing, i really can’t help you! i didn’t do anything!”

there are certain times kuruk likes to be left on his own. many times, in fact. and the other knights know it. while they are meant to be a team, and he can certainly operate well enough within that team, kuruk has always been more solitary. always one for the quiet, to be alone with his own thoughts before reverting to the others. usually, there are two places that are his. his alone. his sniper’s nests, and his cockpit.

so the last thing he expects while running his usual rounds of checks on the ship’s systems, settled comfortably in the pilot’s seat in the night buzzard, is company. “i assume this is urgent.” he says to aiya without bothering to turn and face them. he can only assume they won’t be here for long. not if they know what’s good for them, at least. as much as he might trust aiya as a teammate, he’s not about to start bending rules for them. “if not, it can wait. i’m busy.”

rolling his eyes, kuruk doesn’t bother to respond. there’s no reasoning with aiya sometimes, they’re going to do what they want and no one, least of all kuruk, would be able to stop them. especially when it comes to taking the life of someone who’s apparently inconvenienced them. “fine, fine. just don’t make a mess, i’m not helping you clean up.” he answers shortly, mind already moving on from the dead body aiya’s standing over. whoever they are, they’re a complete stranger, and not at all his concern.

no, kuruk’s concern is much larger. depending on what aiya knows - if they’re here, there’s a chance that kylo ren isn’t far behind. and kuruk isn’t prepared to handle their fallen leader, whatever state he might be in. but whether he can tell aiya that or not, he hasn’t quite yet determined.

"what’s your last memory, aiya?” he asks them quietly, eyes fixed on the other knight. “before you appeared here. what do you last remember?”
