Aren't you always the second choice?
“Well, I guess so. You don’t have to rub it in my face though.”
{toph}
“So, someone got stabbed last night, huh,” Toph said. She thought for a moment, already bored because, yes, she was a little bummed her choice of the bands didn’t win, but also she couldn’t believe someone was stabbed and not only did she miss it and couldn’t help, but it was also causing a lot of stress around. “You wanna try to solve it? Maybe there’s a reward, we could like, play P.I.? I dunno, I’ve been on a binge of true crime podcasts so I think we could probably help. And maybe make some money.”
@nctcaptainboomerang
“Yeah, that’s all sorts of fucked up.” Sokka pursed his lips. He hadn’t really cared which band won but he knew Toph was probably bummed The Hex Girls didn’t win. “You care that much?” At the mention of money though his opinion began to shift. “Hm..well, if you think there might be money involved and we could help why shouldn’t we? The island wants answers. Who are we to deny them?”
{grenda}
“Karaoke! Karaoke! Karaoke!” Grenda chanted, enthusiasm growing with every pump of her fist in the air. “Okay, so what are you thinking? The perfect song is critical to a good night. I’m thinking of starting off with something eighties, ya know, it’s always a good vibe. Or maybe something from the Britney catalog? Early years, of course.”
Sokka wasn’t sure how he got roped into going out for a karaoke night with friends but he did. “Okay, chill.” He skimmed through the binder of songs available to sing along to. “Starting? So you’re singing more than one?” he asked. “Um, I don’t think I’m Britney material so I guess we could go the eighties route.”
“ i keep forgetting there’s ghosts in here ” from riley
“Ghosts?” Sokka questions. “I don’t see any ghosts here.” He glances around, almost as if he has to confirm it himself. “Listen, are you feeling okay? You seeing things?” It’s not that Sokka didn’t necessarily believe it’s just that he’d never seen a ghost himself so why would he? Then again maybe this was some sort of tactic to let his guard down and they could have the upper hand. “Oh, I see what you’re doing. Not going to work,” he said with a grin.

Wreck-It Ralph
Wreck-It Ralph - What does ‘being a winner’ mean to your muse?
It used to mean being the best at whatever he was focused on whether that be a game or mastering the sword. Now he’s accepted there will always be someone who is better than him at something, even the sword. So, it means doing your best with what you’ve got.
jungle book / emperor's new groove
The Jungle Book - Is your muse happy living off of the bare necessities, or do they need more in life?
Sokka could live off of the bare necessities if needed. He’s a survivor but he would not be happy alone. If he was surrounded by the right people it might be more bearable but he much prefers to live a comfortable life.
The Emperor’s New Groove - What animal would you associate your muse with? Why?
Some sort of big cat. Maybe a cheetah. He has fast reflexes and great hunting skills but scares easily. He’s not as cool as a cheetah though.
frozen / beauty and the beast
Frozen - What is your muse’s relationship with their siblings like?
Sokka is very close to his sister. He would do anything to protect her despite butting heads sometimes.
Beauty and the Beast - How has your muse changed as a person over their life? Have they changed for the better or for worse?
When they were younger they were quite immature. When their mother died though something in him changed. He began to grow very protective of his sister and although it took a while he began to mature. He’s still his goofy self but not on such an extreme level. So, it’s definitely for the better.
{mai}
Yes, Mai absolutely still considered it theft, but it wasn’t a conversation to bother taking seriously. “So you want me to do your dirty work and risk getting the blame for ‘borrowing’ them,” Mai accompanied with a gesture of air quotation marks. “Lucky for you I wont be caught. Besides, unlike you, I’m not scared of Zuko.” She also kind of wanted to check them out herself, but she wasn’t going to admit to it.
“Please?” he asked nicely. He didn’t really care for Mai or Zuko but he could tolerate her at least. Sokka thought Mai was weird and emotionless but he would rather deal with her than Zuko any day. “I’m not scared of him! I just prefer to not have to deal with him, that’s all.” He crossed his arms and furrowed his brow. “So, will you do it?”
{riley}
Riley only grinned at the compliment, moving to stretch out their other leg. When the wooden sword came flying at them, years of hockey instincts kicked in and they reacted without thinking. An arm flew out to hit the sword and it then flew in the opposite direction before landing on the ground with a clank. Thankfully it was just a practice one, so it didn’t actually hurt all too bad, but it was still embarrassing. “Whoops?” Riley lets out with a small shrug as a blush rises on their cheeks before they take the few steps to retrieve the item.
Sokka rose an eyebrow as their reflexes kicked in and their arm shot out, sending the wooden sword flying across the room. “Good reflexes but not quite what I had in mind.” He chuckled a bit then walked over and picked up the sword. “Let’s try again.” Once again without warning he tossed the sword to them, hoping they would catch it or at least not send it flying again.
{mai}
“A temporary theft; got it,” Mai mockingly agreed. She couldn’t really blame him. Zuko’s blades were too big for her personal preference but she always had an admiration for weaponry, even if they weren’t the kind she’d use. She never touched them because, really, what kind of idiot touches someone else’s weapons without asking? Sokka, apparently. “If he knew he’d be on your case already. So… how are you going to return them without him finding out?”
“Is it theft though? Like I said. It was borrowing.” Sokka had just wanted to try them out. They were one of a kind and he envied the man for having them. Sokka had a large collection of swords and other weapons and dual blades were something he’d been interested in for a while. “See, that’s where you come in.” He grinned, hopeful. “I thought you could return them for me.”
Continued from here. // @toph-enough
When he’d heard her screaming he was unsure of what to do at first. Sokka had never been good with these kinds of things. This was definitely Katara territory. Even when they were kids and she had nightmares he wasn’t the best help. He had his own nightmares about his mother but he’d learn to shut up and deal with them. He wasn’t going to make his friends do that though. “Yeah, it’s me,” he assured her in a soft voice. He smiled softly even though he knew she couldn’t seem. Maybe she could sense it though. “I’m not going to tell anyone,” he promised. “I’m too scared of you to do that,” he teased. “Seriously though, are you alright? No one else is here if you want to talk about it.”
“You did this on purpose, didn’t you.”
“Me? I would never,” Sokka said with a grin growing on his face. “Okay, so, maybe I borrowed Zuko’s dual blades. That’s different than stealing though. Stealing is wrong. This is just...temporary?” His grin turns into more of a nervous smile. “I just wanted to see what the hype about these things were anyway. I must say though, I am impressed. But I’m done now! I will silently return them. He doesn’t know, does he?”
{riley}
Riley could have practically shrieked in excitement when he said that their reasoning was good enough. For a brief second there they had really thought they might get thrown out of the place, but thankfully that hadn’t happened. Shaking their arms a bit, they leaned forward into a stretch easily. “Oh, I know all about that. I play hockey - so I’m already pretty good at dodging sticks people may try to hit me with.”
“Well, it looks like you’re off to a great start then. Having another sport under your belt is always helpful when learning the sword.” Sokka walked over to the the wall where there was a rack of wooden swords. He took two off and walked back over, tossing one to them without warning. “You have to be ready at all times with quick reflexes because you never know what your opponent will throw at you. Figuratively and literally.”

bonus:
Who’s your favorite member of the gaang?
“Can I say Katara? That probably doesn’t count. It’s hard to pick a favorite because they all are wonderful in their own ways. Toph makes me laugh the most though so I guess her.”
@toph-enough
{riley}
Standing as straight as they could to give off the best first impression possible, Riley tried their best to keep a straight face when answering his question… but a giant grin broke through anyway. “Swords are awesome!” they blurted out excitedly, bouncing a bit on their feet before remembering to stand still and tall. “I mean, I want to learn how to yield a sword because…. Because I think it’s neat?” Was that a more appropriate answer? Riley really didn’t know, but they hoped their little outburst wasn’t going to get them kicked out of the lesson.
“Hmm...” Sokka tried to stay poised and serious as he rose an eyebrow at them. “You want to learn how to use a sword because you...think it’s neat?” He couldn’t help but let out a loud laugh. “Well, that’s good enough for me!” Unlike some of the more...pompous sword masters Sokka didn’t think there needed to be a life altering reason to learn. If someone wanted to because it was fun then who was he to deny them the pleasure? “Alright, let’s get started. Start by loosening up. If you keep your body tight you’ll become less agile and are more likely to get hit by your opponent.”
@emotionalriley
Sokka was always happy to have a new pupil he could teach! It made him proud to be able to pass on the knowledge and technique of sword masters that had taught him. The only requirement is that they were of legal age-- he didn’t want angry parents coming after him if something happened and the student was hurt. Even adults he made sign a waiver. Better safe than sorry. “So, you want to learn the ways of the sword?” he asks the person he’d be teaching today. He takes a closer look at them and circles them. “Riley, is it? And what makes you want to learn today?”
