hi! i've been wondering for a while is there any reason why your speedwagon is always short and scrawny instead of tall and buff like his original version? i find body diversity headcanons interesting so im gen curious why he's so different compared to everyone else who seem to be pretty much close to their original versions? hope i'm not being rude here else please just ignore this ask!

Not rude at all!!

The long and short of it is basically just that I think it’s cute!! I love him being a scrappy city boy, the kind that doesn’t have the physical might to cause damage so he resorts to weapons and relies heavily on his senses and intuition! Traits he has in the source material but are just barely mentioned!

Plus I’m of the mind, despite how much I adore phantom blood as it is, that everyone being tall and buff is a bit boring. Life is more fun bc everyone is so different— I love Dio being slim but fit to express how fast he is described as being, I love Jonathan being the “steam engine” he’s described as, I love Erina being extremely tall for a woman, and I love speedwagon being just a little critter.

Since I don’t draw him too much, you must also know that he has a pudgy belly, he’s scrawny but the belly is a must!

Your Dio gives me Sabrina Carpenter vibes for some strange reason, so when i listen to Manchild i imagine Dio singing "useless!"

Im here just to dump my jd hcs on you because I wanna share with someone+plus you might be interested!!

I've always viewed them as a bird a snake coded.The tragedy is that a snake doesn’t hate the bird—it just hungers. And a bird might love the sunlight so purely it doesn’t notice the shadow beneath the branch. That’s them entirely.

And apples!!! the forbidden fruit, knowledge, the fall. But what’s beautiful is that in their story, Jonathan takes the apple (offers friendship, trust, the chance at something not cursed) and Dio poisons it (literally the mask, figuratively every betrayal).

Also song "Two birds on a wire" is such them <3 and if you allow few more songs is "in all my dreams I drown" and "the day after that"

For animal imagery I always seen Jonathan as a sheep/lamb, in the sacrificial lamb but also as Jonathan being part of the sheep with which dio (the wolf) hides within. I feel like sheep/lamb imagery lends to the religious undertones in their story! But I LOVE snake and bird, it also denotes their feelings, Jonathan of the pursuit of happiness (flight often being a metaphor for freedom) and Dio the pursuit of self fulfillment (a serpent looking for food). Dio having snake imagery also works with the religious undertones hehe.

I also HEAVY agree with the Apple imagery!! I drew a piece some time ago with Dio feeding a pomegranate and Jonathan feeding Dio an apple, a play between the original sin and Persephone which I feel like are similar in tone and have a theme of temptation and sacrifice which plays very well into the themes of jonadio!!

Two birds on a wire is in my Jonadio playlist!! If you like that song and those themes I highly recommend the movie “Liz and the blue bird” bc I feel like (although tame) has a lot of those elements of love and melancholy! If you’d like a song rec as well, “love and war” by Fleurie and “Brutus” by the Buttress are high on my jonadio playlist favorites!

Do you prefer to draw cute things or +18 things?

Mmmm,,, I’m more inspired by cute things! I took a break from 18+ stuff bc my personal tastes changed but I’m getting back into it as self expression (being an asexual I find it’s easier to engage with fiction when it comes to adult materials)

I’ve said on Twitter before that I love painting skin, people being naked is an easy way to get away with painting my favorite part non stop! But when it comes to content, I am a romantic at heart, I want tender moonlit nights over wild passionate ones. So yeah! I end up enjoying the cute things more than the raunchy ones, but they’re still both important to me as I grow as a person!
