Archiving

I’ve never been able to keep this blog going, so rather than have it nag at the back of my mind, I’m archiving it except for small things selectively when I have an itch.

If I’m here, though, It’s probably only for @vintagestark since I only took Steve up to write with her in the first place.

Nothing personal, I just do a better job with other muses. Like thequeensman or bennogaldaan so check me out on either of those.

Howard sat on the edge of his desk in front of Steve. Used to be, it was an intimidation tactic, a way to own the room and everything in it, but right now, it was just that the only other chair was behind his desk and he didn’t think he could stand the distance. Steve was alive and S.H.I.E.L.D. had found him, his S.H.I.E.L.D. A day late and a dollar short, but wasn’t that just how his life always went? “It’s fine, Steve. And it’s probably true. It was rocky there, at first. I punched Nick.” He shrugged and smoothed his palms down his pant legs. “Have you seen Tony? I… I saw him on TV, you too for that matter, but… They won’t let me see him. Or call him.” Something about easing into things. It sounded like bullshit to Howard. There was no way to ease into this. “I could really use a jailbreak, pal.”

“One more felony for old time’s sake? Wouldn’t be the first time you stole government property.”

“I wanted to come sooner,” he insisted, needing Howard to know it. “I wanted to, but I didn’t--” he stopped, brows clenching in a shamed grimace. “I didn’t know if you’d wanna see me, I didn’t wanna upset you.”

He tipped his head back to look up at Howard, his friend, back from the dead. It was surreal, seeing him here like this, but Howard’s question shook him out of his thoughts and he nodded. “I’ve met him, yeah, we worked together. I guess you saw that, though,” he answered. “He, uh, in the end, he was the one that saved us all.”

Pushing himself up, Steve offered Howard a quiet smile and offered his hand. “C’mon, pal,” he said. “Let’s get you out of here. You’re either gonna love the future, or you’re gonna walk around callin’ everybody a moron as you clean up their mess. I can’t wait to find out.”

“You’d already racked up four on your own. Helping was all I was doing.” This was strange and a little raw, but Howard nodded toward the empty chair next to his desk. “You here to spring me, Rogers?”

He took the offered seat, heaving a quiet sigh as he rubbed his palms together between his knees. “Thought it was about time we had that drink you promised me all those years ago,” he said, raising his eyes to seek Howard’s face. “They wouldn’t let me come sooner, I tried, Howard. They said I’d do more harm than good if I sprung myself on you before now.”
