Fuck. I suck at describing.
A couple of weeks ago, I installed Ubuntu 16.04 into my 2013 HP laptop alongside Windows 7. I installed it because I like to program some stuff and also try something fresh since I’m a Window user and performance of 7 got worse in this PC. Here’s the my experience and view in Linux.
Tons of great programs but few are rock solid. - I expect the software from the open source community to be very stable and powerful like the proprietary programs from Adobe. GIMP is very confusing. LibreOffice is more great than ever. Krita is a very awesome painting app though. But the rest I’ve seen such as the Non-linear video editors are weird and not yet confident to compete with Premiere nor Vegas Pro. In the other side, I’m happy that the progress of these programs are very fast and have significant improvements so these are gonna be expected to be great hopefully few years from now.
Pick the right DE for best performance. - When I first used Ubuntu with Unity out of the box, it’s great and beautiful but what I disliked about is that it uses half the RAM and gets easily crashed while browsing with 5 tabs in Firefox. Unity is based on GNOME so I assume that GNOME shell also performs worse. I was correct. Windows on the other hand has done a significant job in their user interface while not having sacrifice the performance. This is what I should expect in these DE’s. Focus first in performance than design. That is why I stick to LXDE w/ Openbox after numerous DE testings (MATE, Cinnamon, Enlightenment) because it handled my PC’s performance great and it’s lightweight.
Package Management and Updates are great. - This are the things I liked about Linux. It’s fast and easy in just a command away. System updates do not worry you as well. You can just select what’s not needed and you’re ready to go. Also, you can choose different mirrors if you’re having trouble downloading the packages. Sweet.
Great for software programming. - I’m not gonna explain this because it shares the same benefits with OS X such as language implementations, shell, and, etc.
Paved the way for open source. - I just thought that without Linux, I cannot have an open alternative to Windows, open-source software would not as great and contributions to the software industry would not be improved as fast as today as it was dominated by Microsoft.
Yeah, that’s kind of it. However this isn’t still my main system yet. There are different uses in different systems but the only problem in Linux right now is the lack of rock solid productivity apps and the rest is great.
Ugh. So frustrating to use Tumblr API in development. The best part it uses OAuth 1.0 which is very confusing to get authentication working.

Payment probs
Summer is about to end one month from now and most of the goals I want to accomplish during the break have never done at all especially that “online summer job” thing. I have set up my own Fiverr account and posted two gigs but was never seen by anyone whatsoever. Discoverability is not my only concern here if there were a lot of people commissioned me but also how payments received.
For many years, PayPal has been known as a pioneer in online transactions because of its presence and ease of use for both customers and merchants. However after I read a Medium post about PayPal suspending his account for it was created before 18 a very long time ago, I was alarmed. I was gonna try that service by cheating on my birthdate but it was too challenging since it also needs a proof that you are in that right age. Also, two years is still way too far for me in order to use PayPal and I want to use it so badly. I’ve looked for other ways but the only ways to get paid without using it were: use credit card or quit Fiverr and find a different one.
Yeah sure, credit card is the best alternative for that but how about the processing portion of it? Will majority of cards support it? How about the fees? Meh researching the whole payments world thing and how it works is not interesting for me. Hence, quitting Fiverr and find a different one is the only option here. Its a tricky one since Fiverr is the only popular services place in the entire interwebz I’ve ever known who accepts minors to work here but meh no other payment options except paypal, bank cheque, and credit cards. But I must let it go with it, there were no one who checked my profile besides me (poor me T-T)
But I have never showcased everything I’ve done so far so I must have to show something to the pubic before I start a job. But I’ll try to do the Patreon thing if I made an interesting project that can be used as a service and handles all the donations there or same thing make a donate button using Stripe.
It might take a long time to earn money I guess. Fuck.
I, for one, hopes for one to have Net Neutrality here in the Philippines.

I'm a fullstack webdev now? Finished javascript training :)
I finished learning Javascript on Codecademy tonight. It was an achievement for me and was pretty quick and easy to understand thanks to my previous learnings from other languages. To be honest, I don't want to learn JS despite years of using it for my web projects because I underestimate due to its syntax and my hate on semicolons until I realized that JS is a very essential language and must be learned by those who want to be a web developer like me.
In the past, I used to just copy and paste snippets from different sites such as StackOverflow and now I can do things on my own. So happy :)
Now where to go next? Well, I've decided to learn NodeJS since I'm gonna try to make a Node web app and an Electron app for my upcoming project this summer vacation.
JQuery? Umm, no. Besides, I have learned the basics of it while learning JS so it should not be an important priority for me.
