Red One Airsoft.....
Went to Red One airsoft on Sunday in St Albans, the review will be up soon!
Players V Marshals at Iron Sight Airsoft.
Enjoy!
Iron Sight Airsoft.....New on the block
This review is for Iron Sight Airsoft in Andover, links to contact pages etc are all at the bottom, but first lets kick it off.
The site itself is Urban and consists of a "T" shape of outdoor land with various water containers, barrels, a watchtower, pallet walls & barricades, greenery and concrete floors. within the site also is several small hangars built up with different properties, i.e a tube train, a pyramid, 'Dexter's kill room' as I call it. One set is 2x4 hangars with a corridor running in between them and the other set is just 1x4 connected to a few small barns and the site even has a windy house to hide in!
The site usually uses the medic rule with grenades as instant kills. They have also stated their ammo limits per life which is the standard amount for most milsim and filmsim events i.e 600 rounds for a rifleman, 2000 for a support gunner, 250 for a sniper, you get the drift.
We arrived by driving through the farm and a few country roads, but easy to find with simple instructions given. We drove into a car park just outside the safe zone, so no massive trek. We set up in the safe zone, using a hangar with loads of benches and lots of room, one of the better safe zones I've used. Walk on is £25 plus £4 for a 9" pizza lunch, but I tend to take my own food. Special events there can also be £20 walk on, so it varies throughout the year depending on the op. Tea and Coffee aren't free, but I don't tend to drink it much so it may bother others.
To the games! We started with a brisk and great warm up game of Infection, where 4 people started as infected and as they shoot others they join the infected side. Nice easy game and gets everyone warmed up.
Next game was a heavily based objective game, we had to get a key from Derek (The DPM Dummy) and take it to one lock, unlock it, get another key out, run it to a laptop which happened to be in a horrible place to defend, but riot shields helped that. Through the most of it our team stuck together and Clive, even after a 6 months absence brought his A+ game and sneaked and creeped around the eerie hangars to get good shots on many of the enemy team. We then had to run the laptop back to base and was a timed game. When switching over we planned to hide the first key in tissues and stuff all of Derek's pockets with tissues, however I was surprised when I had 4 guns pointing at me before i'd even started hiding the key. A bit of mis-communication, none of our team heard the starting whistle, but oh well. Can't remember who won, but not bothered to be honest, was excellent play and a great game.
Played a couple of small games as well, one of them being a standard Deathmatch game, which I never really like as there is no main objective except shoot the other team until they've had enough. I can't remember the rest of the games we played.....sorry again guys
The games were great, on this occasion we played against the marshals and our team was Lewis, Russ, Clive, Marcus, Connor & Woody. In the past we have had issues with dubious and frankly poor play from other players, however on this occasion they didn't turn up.
Marshals were friendly as usual, Paul and Sam who run the site are very friendly and always asks for your honest opinion of how the day went.
I lost my brand new mag for my Ruger MK1, but I know if its found it will get returned to me, luckily I got it cheap too.
Gameplay: 4/5 - Make games to please everyone, but could do with simpler objective games for the smaller games through the day
Players: 3.5/5 - on this occasion it was a full 5/5 however overall the players we've come across have been bad, but haven't seen them recently so that's a plus!
Marshals: 4/5 - If you're new to the site, marshals are friendly and value your opinion, however when a player was shooting through pallets and complained, the marshal I told shrugged and just stood there, however every other marshal i've seen is happy to help.
Site Shop: 3/5 - They have essentials and consumables such as pyro, BB's and Gas (someone correct me if i'm wrong) which is very useful.
Organisation: 4/5 - Games are straight forward and tend to be a great game to play, however there is mis-communication when starting games which give one team an advantage or disadvantage as well as confusion and frustration with players.
Overall: Great games with a good staff base. Vast, dynamic and unique site. Car park is quite large and minimal mud with no potholes which is a bonus! Have had a good crack down there, however it would be interesting to see how players would cope with 50+ people being there.
Would I go back? - Yes, when special events are on and i'm positive those bad players mentioned earlier aren't going. It's great for when our team have a huge number going.
I know the website is currently under construction, but here is the Facebook group they are using at the moment.

The first of something fresh....
27th Oct - Windy day at Xsite - The Outpost
This was probably our 15th or 16th game at The Outpost this year, but decided to review it nonetheless.
Russ, Tim & I arrived to a car park up hill a curly wurly road greeted others there, grabbed our kit and moved swiftly into the safe zone. We said hello to Dan and Ed who got there at about 8:15 then we paid shortly after half past. As usual we got enough space to set up our kit, even with a full house in the safe zone. The usual bacon rolls were on the go for £1.50 each in the morning. Always nice as I don't have time to get food in the morning.
At about half 9 the safety brief was given and then kicked off the first game of 'four corners' at 10am.
One team attacks whilst the others defend. Once the defenders are hit they move anti clockwise to the next corner and wait for that stage to begin, as you can guess there are four corners and whichever team attacks and clears the corners in the quickest time is the winner. We were first to defend and as usual had no idea where to go (I'm hopeless at defending) BUT, I was one of the last ones left, after defending a pillbox at the front for about 10 minutes and having a couple of close encounters with the attacking team moving up, it was about time i got shot. So I moved to corner two. Again lasted about 10 minutes and the other two corners....not so well.
We switched it around and after corner two had a team talk about communication and did a lot better after that. As usual the four corners switch around clears the first hour and gets everyone warmed up and in the mood for a great day ahead of us.
after a quick 5 minute reload we were back out and moved indoors for the CQB part of the morning, had a similar concept inside, where one team attacks and the other defends, but with having three separate stages of the compound. Overkill got a bit heated and tempers started on the 2nd part of the switch around, but the marshals quickly saw that and mentioned this before the next game. However, one part of the indoor game sparked a constant theme with myself and one player. Every time throughout the day we charged at each other a 'congratulations' was in order, we had a little kamikaze competition between us which made the day more enjoyable.
after a small short game, we had a break for lunch and after 15 minutes the pizzas arrived. Everyone initially gets 2 pieces each with selections of meat, veggie and spicy options for everyone. A third piece was given after the marshals had their lunch. Lunch lasted about 45 minutes in total (most of it was spent with Tim and I finding Vines) then we geared up for an outdoor game.
The wind during this game gave both teams a huge disadvantage. It was a domination game to see which team controlled most of the site after 20 minutes, we switched it around by which point people were getting a bit lethargic towards the end of the 2nd game. This (I think) was mostly due to the wind conditions.
Next game was CQB, where there were four teams and once we are hit we call for a medic and whoever medics us, we are then on that team, apart from the huge confusion going on it was an enjoyable game, but alas there was the one and only cheater we came across that day, he had a number of complaints against him for various reasons and even a regular marshal who was playing that day spotted it a couple of times.
We geared up for another CQB game afterwards and played a game where we paired up and had to hunt down the other pairs inside. Easy right? No, each pair had to hold left hands with each other and in turn had to help each other reload, once you are hit you are in effect, a human shield for your partner, once you're both hit its game over for you. Tim and I hid in a room and waited for our attackers. Its safe to say we did crap. Tim's gun jammed up and I only managed to shoot one of our attackers before I got hit by his partner....game over for us :(
After that we all had enough, packed up and left a bit earlier, mostly due to the fact we didn't want to be caught up in the storm to approach later that night.
Gameplay: 4/5 Games are often simple, but very enjoyable, the thing I love most about Outpost is the indoor & outdoor mixed games they have.
Players: 4.5/5 Everyone was brilliant apart from that one person.
Marshals: 5/5 I like all the marshals at Xsite, good service and great characters all round.
Site Shop: 5/5 Excellent selection of WE & TM pistols, three different ranges of ammo, good selection of rifles brought down for affordable impulse buys.
Organisation: 5/5 No time wasted with regards to getting us out and ready and giving us the most of our £30
Overall: As usual, it was another awesome day at the Outpost, with memorable moments, banter, great fun and excellently run.
Would I go back? - OF COURSE, going there next week for my birthday in fact!
Keep your eyes out for more!
Scorpion & Raptors Venture ZED - The Mall
Sunday just gone was my first ever game at the mall and have been putting it off for 4 years of playing just due to the horror stories, I went with Russ which was his 8th time there, just to see what it was like and how it compared to what everyone else said.
We arrived in pouring rain at 7:30 in the morning hoping to jump into the 20 walk on spaces they had available as when we tried to book, it was fully booked. We walked into a narrow room with knee height benches to put all of our kit on and were about 11th and 12th in the queue (yes at barely the crack of dawn). At this point the car park wasn't open so everyone was parked in a bus lane hoping they wouldn't end up with a £40 fine on top of their £36 for walk on fee. We started booking in and paying at about 8:00 and as I had just handed in my disclaimer the person sat at the desk got up and said to others in the queue that there are only 8 spaces left for walk on and if you were not within 8 places unfortunately they couldn't tke them. It was very polite, but stern.
We set up and before we had a chance for a coffee they were ushering people in for chrono (which was fair given 100 people turned up) we done all our mags batteries and went for a Maccy D's breakfast. At about 9:30 we were moved to the main hall for the brief with all our kit, yes, I was warned about the brief. About 35 minutes passed until the owner turned the piece of paper over and said "Right, that's the health and safety out the way" it went to about 45-50 minutes, but after, we cracked on with the first game.
I was starting with 7 others as 'the infected' and the idea was a simple virus game, when you shoot someone they're on your team until there is one person hiding in a corner. I didn't do as well as I wanted in the first 10 minutes, I had my GoPro go down on me after 5 minutes and a Scorpion flapping at my leg the entire time. The main hall was full auto as well as the shop units running along it and upstairs, the basement and other backways were all single shot only. The game took about 25 minutes and most of the action was in the main hall. After that we had a 5 minute break and onto the next game.
It was a simple 2nd game, but for the life of me can't remember what it was, so i'll go straight to lunch! It was typical hot dog, can of Coke (diet or reg) packet of walkers crisps and chocolate bar. So pretty standard and with good brands. After about 30 minutes we got ready and went out for a longer game. For those of you who have played there before, it was the Terminator game (Skip to paragraph below) If NOT then 9 people on each team had either a red or blue armband and each team's main objective was to grab laptop bags scattered around the site and get them to a secure transport vehicle (definitely not a bunch of trolleys cable tied together) oh but there was a catch, the Terminator who was the only player allowed full auto, was a passive player until he saw you with one of his laptop bags, or saw your coloured armband. Each person shot by the terminator with an armband had to hand it over to him.
I was one of the unfortunate ones with an armband on my team, but managed to escape him by running around a metal wall when his torch was inches from me, hiding my arm whilst he was about and simply running away at the sound of someone shouting "he's here!!". I have to admit this game was fun, adrenaline filled when you know on single shot the Terminator will just mow you down with his full auto gun. Toby even had fun hiding in a room for 20 minutes whilst he was about as Jack had an armband too. The whole atmosphere and scenario created put people in a good mindset straight after lunch.
The final game is difficult to explain, but the last 15 minutes of the game included Russ, Raptors, a couple others and I run, charge, kamikaze, whatever you want to call it, towards the enemy. Dual pistols, crazy fast shotguns and me dumping a drum mag from my MP5 in a couple of bursts. Yes it got to that part of the day. Not sure if any team did the objectives, it just looked like a free for all in the main hall, but the marshals let us get on with it.
I think the teams drew at the end of the day, so the teams were made fair from the beginning with a mix of experience and non experienced on either team. At some points there was stalemate, but eventually got past it and pushed back. It was a good turn around on games and liked the objectives in the afternoon. The marshals were all different from last time Russ went there except from the site owner, which in his mind was good as the marshals before were, I quote 'Creepy and weird'. I liked them all and the guy who ran it was very good at getting to the point of things, being clear and wasn't afraid to tell people they couldn't get in, as well as banning someone that day.
The shop wasn't too bad, had everything you needed, but like most retailers in the UK it stocked mostly (if not all) ASG, however the link to the shop and the site is below.
Shop: http://www.airsoftarmoury.co.uk/
Site: http://www.zedadventures.co.uk/
Gameplay: 4/5 - Some games we got bottlenecked, but was brilliant otherwise
Players: 4/5 - Some people were taking the p**s with colour challenge
Marshals: 4/5 - Excellently run by Luke (I think) but brief wasn't 'to the point' enough, I think they like that reputation
Site Shop:2.5/5 - had nothing really special, but had a selection of pistols and shotguns ideal for CQB
Organisation: 5/5 - Ran so smoothly and was a brilliant day in my eyes.
Overall - The day ran well, very organised, friendly & helpful marshals, good game play as I didn't really see many cheat and is a premium site. The car park should be open from when people start to arrive as there is always a risk of getting a fine parked on the bus lane. In the safe zone after everyone arrived I felt like I was a sardine and trying to get all my kit on as well. I felt sorry for the guys who were forced to set up their kit on the floor or on the cinema chairs. Safe zone needs more room and safety brief was so long winded with about 4 examples for each point made and getting distracted with jokes etc. Last point, by the looks of it, for some people the Mall is just a place to dress up in fancy dress and have a gun (I was this close to putting my Hawaiian shirt on too!).
Would I go back? - I would go back, however Its not something I could play regularly and wasn't 100% comfortable there like at Xsite. For £36 its a good 'once in a while' site.
Scorpion & PTTS do Blue Streak Airsoft....wow
Hello everyone,
This is the first of (hopefully) weekly reviews of sites that we go to, whether its ten or two of us, the site's getting reviewed!
So on the 6th October we ventured to Blue Streak Airsoft in Aylesbury (70 miles down the road from Russ and I) and run by BadgerTac Airsoft (all links and contact information below) We had arranged to meet PTTS, a group of CQB Tactical marshals and players who want to stay in contact and after a quick 15 minute reunion at Bicester services we arrived in a fleet of 5/6 cars and greeted as we parked up by 3 marshals wearing Hawaiian shirts (their signature) and instantly chirped everyone up at 8:20 in the morning. We parked up, left the kit in the car and each handed over £30 followed by signing a disclaimer where we all stacked up and wrote on each others backs. It was quick easy as you weren't waiting ages to que and they had plenty of pens. Following that 4 of our cars drove up to the site which left no room for Russ an I so we were tasked with carrying our kit up, but didn't bother us because that's just how it goes.
We set up, had a chat, got our kit ready and by about half 9.......it started. The marshals, which predominantly ex military had a set of lungs on them. I thought it was okay to start with, wake everyone up a bit. We went for the brief which was clear, kept your attention and covered each point in detail, but to the point. After the brief, we were put into teams and PTTS and Scorpion stuck together along with 2 gents we were set up next to and a few others. "Team Leaders" were appointed for each team, who I assume were regulars, and were tasked with..well...leading the team, they had good tactics and I thought, if i'm going to get moaned at for not doing what they say, then they should pay my £30, but if you went off with two of your mates for a kamikaze run instead of defending the objective none of them had any objection and were quite friendly guys.
First game (from memory) was to push either team back to their re-gen and dominate the buildings built around the site, with us being mostly CQB players its safe to say we didn't grasp the layout of the site compared to the other team, so we lost. Then after switching the game round, we found it easier to push, but still lost but not as bad. This went for 30 minutes roughly either way. Forgive my bad memory, I can only remember some games. They tended to get longer and longer throughout the day until we hit lunch at about 13:00 which was a brilliant summer style layout, with a pasta salad, hot jacket potato, Chilli, coleslaw, garlic bread and a couple of other small bits, Terry had no hesitations when they were calling for 2nd's, 3rd's.....and 4th's.
After lunch there was two huge hour and a half games, at this point Russ must have had about 2 packs of paracetemol from the marshals shouting like we had just walked into basic training. Usually when the games are good I can remember most little details, but in this case can only remember the last half hour when it was the biggest stalemate I have ever encountered. We were set up in a long building with several rooms, a back alley, shower block etc. In the brief they said it was single shot when you are within 5m of a building, which fair enough they were 20-25m away, so we took it upon ourselves to fire back at them full auto, after 20 minutes of this, they caught on and said we had to shoot single shot (by which point we only had 10 minutes left). After several suicide runs by myself, Russ, Scotty, Beef and the gent who done the commando roll, Russ spotted a potential cheater and had said it to himself after walking off, to which "Mr Muscle" (our own nickname for him) shouted him over and said "Dead men don't talk, If you have a problem speak to a marshal" Russ went to breathe and he then said "I'm speaking, when I talk, you will listen"
When I heard that I couldn't believe what I was hearing. You're not in the military anymore and we never were so stop treating us like fresh meat privates and talk to people like a human. After the hellish 10 minutes of standing in a building until they stormed it we turned it around. We turned the game round so our team were now attacking through the 3 stages and around 10 minutes into it I heard a familiar voice shout towards the guy in front, Me and Carl. The guy in front pointed to himself and the marshal said "yeah and you behind him, what have you been told about standing on the mounds" (the mounds being banned from standing on due to health and safety reasons from rabbit holes) As soon as I heard that I went to re-gen Toby where my arm met a set of brambles as I dived we were both shot and at this point was expecting a sarcy comment from the marshal that never arrived surprisingly. After getting told off because I didn't wait 3 minutes to "bleed out" I walked off only saying to the others that i've had enough.
For about an hour and 40 minutes I sat in the safe zone with a few others from PTTS that packed it in for the same reasons. We packed our kit, Matt and Russ went to get their cars, we had our goodbyes (about 3 times) then all went on ours ways.
You may have noticed this review was based mainly on the marshals, not only because it's what I remeber most, but because marshals and the atmosphere of the site is also what makes the day and to me, the marshals were rood arrogant and ruined the day completely, not to mention someone overhearing the marshal bi***ing about Russ to another marshal...top notch professionalism.
If you do fancy it the link to the shop is here: http://www.badgertac.com/products/
The link to badger tac events is here: http://www.bluestreak-airsoft.co.uk/
Gameplay: 4/5
Players: 3/5
Marshals: 1/5 (the 1 being from the 2 nice chaps waving us into the car park at the start)
Site shop: 3/5 (didn't touch on this, but sold your standard bits, but a bit pricier than i'm used to)
Organisation: 4/5
Overall: Good game play, not really anyone with dubious play until the end, but understandable as everyones tired and reactions drop. Quite cliquey regulars, but knew 70% of people there so wasn't too bad. Marshals...enough said I think. Games were good, but think they need to start with a short 10 minute game to get us warmed up instead of diving into two half hour games without a little break first thing.
Would I go back? - Probably only if PTTS had fully booked it all and we had free roam of the site, other than that...NO
