black people, please take care of yourselves. please take care of your health. please take care of your mind. please take care of your spirit.
i understand if your soul is not at peace. i understand if you are exhausted. just, please take care of yourselves in these dark, hateful times and surround yourself with people who understand why.
any black followers and friends, a thread of mental health resources if you need them can be found here!

ALEPPO UPDATE
The Assad broke the ceasefire and the people in Aleppo are still trapped….. The genocide is continuing and sadly not enough is being done to stop it.
Please help spread awareness or at least give what you can to these organizations:

Btw I’m not trying to make anyone feel guilty about not donating. It’s okay… In this tough economy not everyone has is like that. But there’s still a lot of people who don’t know about this and I really want as many people to be aware as possible

You can definitely retire the “white old cishet male” as synonymous with racism in America not that they aren’t, but bitch young white people, gay white men, white women etc. all voted trump. And we knew they would.
I've lost complete faith in humanity.
Look. I’m not trying to be rude, but I am gonna be real.
You saying you’ve lost faith in “humanity” isn’t worth shit. It doesn’t challenge anything, it doesn’t mean anything. Statements like this evaporate the very nature of oppression and dissolve who is oppressor/beneficiary and who is oppressed. The continuous occurrence of black people being killed by white police isn’t some ubiquitous urgency for which all of “humanity” is at fault. White supremacy, white privilege, a virulently anti black economical/social/political system is at fault and all those who validate it, at any time, are at fault.
And honestly, who the fuck are you to declare that you’ve lost faith in humanity? There are many amazing people from Toni Morrison to Cornel West to Angela Davis to Harry Belafonte who have seen the absolute worst American domestic (and foreign, if we’re being real) terrorism has had to offer and they live with hope in their hearts and revolution on their minds everyday. You don’t get to dismiss the amazing work of my elders and the youth of my community because you lost faith. And you don’t get to come into my inbox and bombarde me with your reactionary garbage when you can’t even locate systems at fault and would prefer to lazily dredge up vague concepts like “humanity”. If we don’t have hope, we have nothing. No praxis. Angela Davis has spoken on this topic many times before. About how those who discuss the world as a perpetually stagnant place and throw their hands in defeat are counteractive to any revolutionary thought.
One of her most relevant quotes. “You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time.”
Do I have “faith” in the system? Absolutely not. But I do have faith in the resilience of my people and all oppressed people by Empire, whether we’re talking Pakistan, Mexico, the Congo, Somalia, Palestine, Iraq and beyond. I have faith in the abundance in domestic and transnational solidarity, coalition building and activism that comes from tragedies and injustice. And yes, these are the positives amongst “humanity” which you collectively condemn.
Which leads into my final point, whether or nor you realize it, you mean white people. And your equivalence of white people with “humanity” is actually pretty fucking racist and legitimatizes the dehumanization of everyone who isn’t white, especially black people in this context, which ironically, is how we’re at the point of a black man can get killed on camera and a grand jury in majority decides his life isn’t even worth a trial.
Toni Morrison Takes White Supremacy To Task
Few intellectuals have waged a public battle against white supremacy and patriarchy like Toni Morrison. Morrison has both examined and challenged systems of domination throughout her intellectual life. With her novels, essays, and interviews she has taken critical looks at the interlocking systems of race and gender oppression. In this interview she is asked by PBS’s Charlie Rose what it is like for her to encounter racism. In true Morrison fashion she turns the question on its head, and places the onus for explaining racism back into the hands of White people. She asks Rose what he thinks of racism, why do Whites hold onto, and what are they going to do about it ending it. She rejects the notion that racism is simply something that Black people must grapple with, insisting, demanding, that White people also grapple with it. Fearless. Brilliant. Powerful.
liberal white people everyone being like “don’t blame or hate whites for this, blame and hate the system that permitted it!” completely disregarding the fact that whiteness IS the system that permitted and caused this.
#i am white and i am COMPLETELY BLAMING white people for this
In the amazing words of Samantha Bee, in regards to the majority of Trump voters being white people, her message to all of us white people is: “Don’t try and distance yourself from the bad apples and say, “Its not my fault!”, “I didn’t vote for him!”, “#notALLwhitepeople” – shush, shush, shush! If Muslims have to take responsibility for every member of their community (sarcastically pointing out that most people say and believe that all Muslims are terrorists, which is factually not true) then so do we.”
1500 cases from 1990-2016 (that we know of). And to clarify, this lists comprises of brown and black lives.. there’s so many names I could add to this, we are far from this post-racial utopian society people try to paint us as. In some areas in the UK, black people are 17x more likely to be stopped and searched. Black bodies mysteriously die in cells while the IPCC torments the families with biased investigations that they were never here to seek justice for them. Just this February Sarah Reed a black British woman died under mysterious circumstances in her cell. Tell me how a black woman who was sexually assaulted in the psychiatric hospital she was put in ended up in prison? She was also a victim of police brutality a couple of years ago. In 2012, police broke the neck of science student Julian Cole leaving him brain dead while the family still awaits his justice in 2016!
We need to know why our lives are seen as so disposable. We need to know why black people are over represented in the custodial system and why such racial prejudices exist in the criminal system in the first place. They purposely hide the history and achievements of black people in the UK so we remain ignorant and forget about our own movements in the 60s - our fights to bring in “no discrimination” laws. Our fights to be treated as equal. Many Brits don’t even know the origin of the biggest festival in Europe - Notting Hill carnival, which was political, created as a means to celebrate our heritage and culture in the face of adversity. Gangs of police have been terrorising us since the majority of our grand parents came during the windrush era in the 40s. Police brutality is nothing new. Ask your grand parents how they used to try to intimidate black folks minding their business, kidnap and beat them up only to drop them off somewhere far from home. How they’d ignore evidence pointing to members of white hate groups who would murder us, harass us and vandalise our property/businesses. This isn’t anything new. And history continues to repeat itself as the list of brown and black lives continue to be taken away/brutalised. The media may try to hide it but it’s happening.
Let’s not pretend that the UK hasn’t played a huge role in propagating the false belief that whiteness is superior. Let’s not pretend that they have not spread this through violence, pillaging countries, colonisation and slavery. Do not wipe away the history of this country and what they continue to do to paint some utopic fantasy which you can use to compare to America. What can Britain teach America about valuing black lives? We aren’t above them at all.
BREXIT: A quick note on the first three tragedies. Firstly, it was the working classes who voted for us to leave because they were economically disregarded and it is they who will suffer the most in the short term from the dearth of jobs and investment. They have merely swapped one distant and unreachable elite for another one. Secondly, the younger generation has lost the right to live and work in 27 other countries. We will never know the full extent of the lost opportunities, friendships, marriages and experiences we will be denied. Freedom of movement was taken away by our parents, uncles, and grandparents in a parting blow to a generation that was already drowning in the debts of our predecessors. Thirdly and perhaps most significantly, we now live in a post-factual democracy. When the facts met the myths they were as useless as bullets bouncing off the bodies of aliens in a HG Wells novel. When Michael Gove said ‘the British people are sick of experts’ he was right. But can anybody tell me the last time a prevailing culture of anti-intellectualism has lead to anything other than bigotry?
Nicholas, in The Financial Times. (via fireofspring)
the labour party is great, it’s like being on a big tandem bike with all of your friends, except you are on fire, the bike is on fire and you’re in hell
and as I’m already seeing the “oh my god England why would you do this” posts from non-Brits, please know these things before you start being judgey:
Vote Leave won by a majority of 2%, and fewer than a million votes could have swung it the other way
Over 70% of young people wanted to remain, as opposed to 60% of older voters wanting to leave
The Tory government were elected with the support of only 24% of eligible voters in 2015
our government is, in all honesty, a shambles
give tumblr’s demographics, chances are your British followers reading your posts are not the ones who voted leave, and we are watching our economy and future prospects crash around us
please don’t be arseholes about it and mock the decisions that we did not make
thank you
[Brexit, pursued by a bear].
update from the UK lads
gove and boris, pioneers of the leave vote, are literally MIA. like…no one knows where any of the leave campaign are
the chancellor is basically missing
we effectively have no PM
the tory party are in the midst of a civil war so brutal john major’s tenure looks chill
there may or may not be a snap election
the labour party literally barely exists as its shadow cabinet resigns en masse
labour’s deputy leader, hero of the story tom watson, spent the whole of the leadership crisis last night at a silent disco at glastonbury, while snapchatting
this fucking hilarious video in which it is revealed vote leave have no contingency plan and the presenter literally ends saying “i don’t know what to say to that”
no one actually wants to press the big red button (article 50) to start the process of brexit
this conspiracy theory appears to be entirely correct. seriously, read it. it basically suggests brexit is entirely impossible
nicola sturgeon, separatist first minister of scotland, is effectively the only leader with a plan: that plan being the break up of the united kingdom
literally we have become a meme
