Sketching my next embroidered gift!
Finished! I started this long before Leonard Cohen died. And perhaps I should have cited him, but I am not selling this piece. This project stalled for many months due to moving and getting distracted with another embroidery project. Funny story: the first time I stitched that pinky-peachy flower I made it look like an anus, so that had to be unstitched and rethought.
my name is Dick
and wen its nite,
I byde outte doors
and crey “I’m wite!”
But odder menn
hwa nae accorde
doth land a dynt
upon myn gourde.
Myn mouth agaype –
for aye, it hurt!
Myn toung lolle outte.
I lik the dirt.
I'm a pacifist - or trying to be - but this meme made me laugh, particularly the bit, "doth land a dynt / upon myn gourde.
Working on filling in the leaves. Fishbone stitch on the light leaves and blanket stitch on the dark leaves. The blanket stitched leaves are very open and everything else in this piece is very filled, so I might go back and add a few stitches on those.
Steeping tea and thinking about my friend Joy, who made this mug.
Hank, I dont know if anyone's asked you this before, but what are your thoughts/feelings on the marijuana debate?
I don’t really like smoking pot, but I don’t think pot should be illegal. That’s pretty much my whole perspective.Â
Mine, too. Vices should not be felonies.
I made an elephant for a child's birthday present. The recipient is really into mustaches. The pattern came from a BurdaStyle magazine.
Calling senators today.
Detail shots of plants at Portland Japanese Garden to inspire and inform my embroidery.
Trying to decide if I am feeling hopeful enough to add in the leaves.
Today I set some boundaries on work and left the building for lunch. I can't afford to do this every day, though. I have also been using an app that sets boundaries on my screen use, so I actually ate a lovely lunch, eavesdropped on the table next to me, and did a little sketching.
Spare hats, spare safety pins, rain gear, and my Pocket Constitution. I'm ready. Let's march, Portland!
We are the Aunties we’ve been waiting for.
Thank you Shing Yin Kohr.
A few minutes to myself. This is the second time I have stitched this flower.

Raccoons may be thugs, but this is funny!
New Year Direction
I finally finished another embroidered quote. This one is on black linen. I used satiny/pearly thread for the cursive lettering and metallic thread for the word “shine”.
The next time I use metallic thread, I am just going to couch it rather than stitch with it. I think that will result in more shine and sparkle. Also the satiny/pearly thread is slippery as all get out. It requires much patience.
