In this timeline, Sabo survived. There was no ambush by Bluejam, no chains dragging him back to the hell of nobility. He stayed—where he belonged—beside his brothers. But the fire still came. This time, Sabo had the chance to fight it. To protect Ace. To keep Luffy far away, safe at home. It should have been enough. It wasn’t. Because in this world, fate didn’t repeat itself—it twisted. And maybe… just maybe… this version of the story is worse than the one before.

He ducked between long coats, hopped over a crate of fruit, skidded sideways to avoid a pair of arguing merchants. Laughter bubbled out of him, bright and unrestrained. “Sorry—!” He called cheerfully to no one in particular as he spun past a startled couple. He glanced over his shoulder and waved, a grin stretching wide across his face as he continued on his way.

Chapter 20 teaser

Something warm closed around his hand. “Hey—hey, it’s okay,” a voice said, breaking badly on the last word. “Take your time. Don’t force it.” The panic drained out of him all at once, like a tide pulling back. His body seemed to listen to the gentleness in the words when it hadn’t listened to anything else. With a shaky sigh, his eyelids finally cracked open, this time without resistance. Light flooded in. It wasn’t blinding, but the sensation of air against his eyes made them sting, tears prickling instantly. He blinked a few times, slow and clumsy, vision lagging. The world swam. The ceiling above him shifted from blurred brown swirls into an outline of wooden boards and beams. A head moved into his vision from the right. Then another from the left.

Hii! It's the second to last chapter of this story! Ah so close to the end! It bring me to tears thinking about it

I decided to keep the story linear, so the next chapter is going to be accruing in future

I'm debating writing little extra content of different scenes but I havent fully committed to anything just yet

“I’m trying,” Luffy choked out, though no one could hear him. His voice was high and panicked, his words frantic and breathy. “I’m trying, I swear—I don’t know how—I don’t know how to get back—!” His fingers clawed at his own arms as if he could somehow pull himself into the world. The sight of Ace begging, of Sabo gripping Luffy’s hand like it was a lifeline, made his heart feel like it was being crushed under iron weight. “I’m here,” he cried, voice shaking. “I’m right here—why can’t you see me?!”

NEIWIS Chapter 17 Teaser

Should I even exist? The question echoed endlessly. It gnawed at him in the quiet moments, creeping into his thoughts when the world finally went still. It screamed at him in the loud ones. Luffy had been the answer to that question without ever meaning to be. Luffy’s existence had made Ace’s feel justified. So what was the answer now? Grief hollowed Ace out, scraped him raw from the inside. And vengeance rushed in to fill the space. It was easier to burn than to feel. Easier to chase a single target than to sit with the unbearable emptiness Luffy had left behind. Anger gave him shape when loss had reduced him to nothing.

We are getting close to the end! Just a few more chapters left!

I was planning on writing this into a chapter comment, but since ao3's down & I'm too impatient to share this info, I'm sending it to your tumblr haha. Your fics have become the highlight of my weeks ngl 🙂‍↕️ there's few things that get me as excited as seeing a "StandingBi posted" email when I wake up or a notif that you've posted a snippet on Tumblr. It's a shame ao3 doesn't want that to happen, but I feel like the excitement since when you posted the chapter 16 teaser can only be compared to waking up on Christmas day as a child LMAOO. Love your works, no matter how long you need to get them out (after all they're always at such high standards & your time & effort shows through every paragraph omg) 🫶🫶 I look forward to writing another long comment whenever chapter 16 comes out! I know there's going to be so many incredible details to love, as always!

He braced himself—whatever he found, whatever condition Sabo was in, he had to be ready.

To those who follow me for my Batman fanfic

I wanted to keep you guys updated on the situation.

Recently, I've been dealing with medical stuff and its been hard to get myself to write. I typically write my cryptid batman when I need a break from other projects. But since I can't even get myself to work on those, I haven't touch it since the last chapter.

I wasn’t sure if I should make this post, as I thought maybe this would all pass soon, but it hasn’t.

I'm doing fine! Don't worry.

I'll try to work on the fic when I am ever able! I'm not abandoning it. But updates will probably be a lot slower for awhile
