For snowboarders as well as for all the other snow enthusiasts the anticipation for the first snowfall is enormous every year. My November usually passes by checking tons of weather forecasts in the hope of seeing first snowflakes through the window, so that I could call my friends and shred the local hill even if there is just a few centimeters of fresh snow. For the past few years this ''wait'' is becoming longer and longer. This year there was no snow until the middle of January so I had to find some alternatives for spending my free winter time. I decided to take a trip to Cerknica lake which is located on the karst plain in the southern part of Slovenia and represents one of the largest intermittent (disappearing) lakes in Europe. I called up my homeboys and told them about the idea on which they were pretty excited about. Two days later we went there with an early morning start trying to get there as soon as possible. Everyone was anxious about what we will find there, since we’ve seen just a few photos of the frozen place. After a couple of hours we finally got to the spot. It was still dusk, cloudy, freezing cold and windy, no people, just a few birds. At first we thought it was impossible to make a thing because there were huge pieces of ice everywhere (not forget to mention a lot of frozen fish) but later on we found some lines for which we though that could be duable. Boys strapped up, got their tricks in mind and first tries went of. The heaviest part was inrun and outrun since they were riding on pure ice but they figured it out and at the end got their tricks despite some nasty slams. After a day of bad weather we decided to go there one more time to get some more stuff done, but lucky or not we got our first snow and a flooded lake. Amazed and with smiles on our faces we packed the car and went back home with first session of the season under the roof.
