Shifting/Manifesting and "Continuity"
Continuity is an Illusion
Before anything else, I want to make a clarification: Shifting and manifesting are the same thing. They are not two different processes, they are the same movement of awareness. From this point on, I’ll refer to both as shifting. In shifting spaces, continuity usually refers to ideas like: “Time must pass before a shift happens”, “There needs to be a bridge from CR to DR”, “You must experience a process, delay, symptoms, or transition”, “Reality has to change logically or gradually”, or “You can’t just be somewhere else instantly.” Continuity assumes that reality must remain coherent across moments, that there must be a before → during → after sequence. That assumption feels natural, but only because it’s familiar. This is why most people seemingly shift when they go to sleep, through meditating, or once they are in an altered state of consciousness instead of realising that shifting can happen anytime anywhere instantly no matter what. They unconsciously view shifting as a linear process that they need to enter a specific state or be fully relaxed to “shift easily.”
Continuity does not exist in awareness. Awareness does not move through time, does not travel, and does not transition. Awareness simply is. What we call “continuity” is actually: memory, narrative, identification with sequence, and the ego stitching together perceptions into a story. In awareness, there is no inherent timeline holding reality together, there is only what is being aware of right now. The idea that: “This moment must follow the last one” is not a law of reality, it is a habit of perception. The ego needs continuity to exist, without continuity there is no personal storyline, no progress narrative, no “I’ve been trying for X amount of time”, and no identity anchored to past and future. So the ego invents continuity as a stabilizing mechanism, but awareness does not require stability, reality does not require a timeline, and shifting does not require a process. Continuity is not something you are inside of, it is something you are identifying with. With continuity, people unconsciously put their DR/shifting on a pedestal that they need to “reach” certain specific “circumstances” to shift. This may be a hot take, but perhaps people also unconsciously see their “CR” as more real than their DR. This is why people can’t “seemingly” shift from their CR to their DR instantly on command with a safe word, but can from their DR to CR because they unconsciously put resistance on shifting/their DR.
Continuity doesn’t exist in nondualism; nondualism points to this directly, there is no separate observer moving through time and there is no objective sequence outside awareness. There is only the present appearance of experience. If awareness is fundamental, then time is an appearance in awareness, continuity is an interpretation by awareness, and shifting is simply awareness being a different state. There is no bridge, transition, or delay required.
When continuity is fully dropped, shifting can look like: instantly being in your DR with no sense of “how” anytime anywhere no matter what, reality changing mid-perception such as seeing your CR surroundings morph and change to your DR before your eyes or it instantly changes like a tv channel switch from CR to DR; a blink, a breath, or a decision and everything is different; no transition symptoms, no sense of “getting there”, and no memory of a process, only presence. It feels normal, not dramatic, because awareness is not traveling, it is simply being something else now.
You don’t “drop” continuity, there is nothing to undo. Continuity is a concept created by the ego, not a structure of reality. So the moment you decide: “Continuity does not exist” or “What I am aware of, is”, that decision is not something you think about. You are that decision, and awareness immediately reflects what is being, not what is repeated, forced, or assumed over time. The decision you declare is the beingness. Therefore there are no techniques, no retraining, and no waiting. Reality does not respond to assumption, and shifting does not respond to effort. Awareness reflects being. Continuity was never holding your reality together, you were. Once you stop being continuity by making that decision that continuity doesn't exist in your experience, shifting stops being something you work toward and becomes something that simply is: instant, effortless, and normal.
