my last two weeks were spent watching the summer i turned pretty season 3 with my sister, who has recently read all the books and rewatched season 1&2, but it’s her first time watching season 3! so far she really enjoys it and we’re about to watch the finale today, so i summarised her reactions, thoughts & made her make some predictions/share some ideas what might happen - with the help of some bullet points made by me. really excited for her to experience the finale, this is what she’s thinking:
first off: she‘s been team conrad all along, like me, and her favourite character is steven - and honestly, i don’t think anyone really is as obsessed with steven & staylor as my sister. she also despises jeremiah, of course! and, lastly, she’s a good person and loves belly’s arc and is very proud of her as well! they’re the same age, she gets her, and is disgusted at people hating her for making decisions she’s basically forced to make.
so far: she loves it! she already enjoyed the third book the most and loves what they made of it! and knowing that there will be something grand this episode, she’s even more excited for that one. and, most importantly, she finally understands why our friend and i are so obsessed and can’t wait to get sucked in on social media lol.
favourite book moments (before & after watching the season): anything laurel & conrad, and how it all went down on the wedding day, but she’s really all about laurel & conrad.
book accuracy: my sister asked me beforehand how accurate the season was and i said it what pretty much exactly what happens in the book, just sometimes in a different order, and we get side plots - unfortunately she barely showed reactions in the first 8 episodes because “i knew that would happen because it’s in the books”. but she really loves how much better it’s made and shown in the show!!
favourite scenes: again, anything laurel & conrad, and episodes 7 and 8 were her favourites so far, because they are especially well made and book accurate. she loves the metaphor of belly running after herself in episode 9 and got mad when i told her that that‘s what most people dislike about that episode lol. and of course she loves everything staylor, for some reason they also get my sister’s favourite songs many times! one that got her, just like it got me (for reasons you might be able to guess lol), is conrad and jeremiah making up at the end of episode 10. she’s very happy they have their brother back and they talk again, even after that pretty big thing standing between them for such a long time :,)
her favourite musical moments: she said that the glass unicorn flashback with robin playing was her favourite. i did noticed that she showed most emotions and reaction at the end of episode 4, knowing that 5 would be narrated by conrad, and halley’s comet started playing. never heard her scream like that, and when “what have i done?” hit, she screamed even more lol. BUT she loves taylor swift, gracie abrams, billie eilish and olivia rodrigo, so almost every musical moment is her favourite.
my thoughts on her reactions: to be honest, her reactions are just being disgusted at jeremiah saying words (and her disgusted face is hilarious) and sometimes screaming for music. but she’s really into it and that’s what counts!! and whenever conrad’s on and i say how good he looks or how sweet he is (so basically every time he’s on screen), she agrees, so i guess that’s something. one thing i noticed is that she always says the same thing my favourite reactions to that ep said, sometimes it feels like she read the internet’s reactions beforehand. AND my favourite reaction of hers was when jeremiah said to belly that she shouldn’t call him again and my sister threw a plastic glove at the tv - i almost fell off the couch.
now, the main part of this post, her plot predictions: belly and benito are still hooking up, but not really dating and not at all together. they both know it’s just a fling and will end as soon as belly leaves - at the latest. after the appointment at the hair salon conrad texts belly that he’s in paris and they meet at the train station (like blair&chuck in gossip girl) and he explains what he’s doing in paris. conrad then somehow meets her friends, including benito, and benito ends it right there - my sister literally said “benito will see conrad looking at belly and not even notice how she looks at him yet, but then tell that conrad and her belong together and he doesn’t want to stop them from finally having their happy ending” (she’s so real for that). her friends then push her towards conrad. belly and conrad talk again, there will be a few new flashbacks to when they were kids, they talk about what went down, confess their love to each other, and then get back together. time jump, everybody meets in cousins. another time jump, belly and conrad are married, we get susannah’s letter and belly’s voiceover from the book.
more predictions: bellyconrad (obviously) and staylor will be together, and jeremiah and denise probably end up together. because i accidentally spoiled it to her, she also expects adam to show up with champagne again. she has no predictions for the movie yet, because she believes they’ll get married in the finale - once she realizes they won’t, that will probably be her prediction. she can’t make any predictions on music though, because there’s just too many songs that would work and depending on how the story actually goes, it could be completely different songs playing. she likes the begin again theory abut really doesn’t know what to expect.
my thoughts on her predictions: i honestly love her predictions, they’re similar to mine and make so much sense. however, i know that she will love the actual ending even more, she is a swiftie, and more specifically 1989 and reputation girly after all. i also asked her about predictions before watching episode 1 and then asked before every episode, just to get an idea of what she thinks the timeline will look like, this is the first time she actually had anything and it’s only the second episode she has any expectations for (the first one being ep 5, obviously). and, like i said, her predictions are very sweet and very fitting for the way she sees things, it makes sense with the books she usually reads and it adds up so well, but, i really do think that the finale is her perfect finale, she just doesn’t know it yet.
