Stress can make any student crumble. Growing up and becoming a well-rounded person includes learning stress management. I am embarking on a journey to become one with self and relieve stress. This program will cover not only yoga postures and routines but also nutrition and health.

What’s My Favorite Word Program
One of my residents made me food, this is love right here.
Tonight(Thursday) D'ondre Swails and I had a listening party at 8pm in the Mays Hall Lounge titled "What's My Favorite Word", where we discussed the “B word” along with other derogatory terms. We talked about how these terms have become engrained into hip hop culture, as well as the frequency of their use in daily conversation and their place in society. In conclusion, we discussed what we can do as students to promote the use of more empowering language and the Free Zone.
Resident Advisor Council Meeting. In Mays Hall Lounge/OHRL Office, RA’s meet every other Tuesday. Mediated by Mr. Green and Dean Washington, RAC meetings are where a group of RA’s decide and plan the RA socials and the RA summer and winter training. It also serves an important outlet for concerns/problems in the halls and those of the RA staff. Having direct access to Dean means issues can be handled quicker and important news can be passed on to other RAs more swiftly. I enjoy the meetings as they usually are quite funny

Doing Insanity with our residents in the Suites. We're working hard promoting both health and wellness. Matt is leading the charge, pointing at me to stop taking pictures and get back to working out. During Insanity, it is important to support each other, take breaks if necessary and stay hydrated. A healthy body also makes for a healthy mind and when you look good, you feel good.
We started the Insanity Program again as a way for the resident to get in shape for spring break. My goal is to bring a healthier lifestyle with the suites residential communities
SafeSpace Leader Community Development
I ran into two of my residents outside the bookstore and we ended up talking about the gay population at Morehouse. They seemed to be offended that some of the notoriety of our school was associated with gay students on campus. I did not understand why this bothered them so much until they broke it down. They expressed that they were not gay and did not like that people questioned their sexuality when they went home because they attended Morehouse. I asked them if they were comfortable with their own sexuality? Without really thinking about it, they quickly responded yes. I proceeded to ask them what the problem was then? They responded that they did not like being associated with the gay students at Morehouse. I had to keep it real and encourage them to rethink how they were viewing the situation. Just as there may be a stigma centered around being gay at Morehouse, there is also a stigma centered around being Black in America, however, we give give these pathologies power. They shouldn’t have been offended at the question, but asked the people posing it why was it so important to them. Why are the labels of race and sexuality so important to us? Shouldn’t one’s character be more important? They should have told the person that they were asking the wrong question and as long as they themselves were comfortable in their own skin it shouldn’t matter what people think. I encouraged them to not let there own discomfort with self reflect ill treatment or intolerance of other marginalized groups. After really thinking about what was discussed, they said that they would attempt to be more tolerant and accepting, as they expressed that they had never really thought about the situation like that before.

Had a discussion with 3 of my residents in the East Suites Lobby, concerning brothers being on the down low at Morehouse. They expressed that some of their peers felt as if they had to hide their sexuality in order to fit in, despite there being a significant amount of openly gay students on campus. They praised SafeSpace’s agenda to make marginalized groups at Morehouse feel comfortable being themselves, however they still felt that it was wiser just to go along with the flow and keep one’s head down. I encouraged them to be true to themselves and tell their peers to do the same, as you have to give people a chance to be tolerant and accepting. You shouldn’t assume that you will be ostracized by your friends for being your true self and if they do those are not the people you want to associate with anyway.
This past Tuesday, D'ondre Swails and I had a program on alcohol awareness where we discussed the dangers of binge drinking, an individual’s body mass as it relates to drinking, and subtle ways to avoid the pressures of social drinking. In college, peer pressure is a major factor in how often and how much individuals drink. We encouraged our residents to self-regulate in these situations by just saying no or knowing when to say when. We are well aware that many students drink irresponsibly, which makes creating awareness on the issue that much more pertinent. They need to know how to be safe, walk away, or simply seek another alternative. A lot of students say they drink to have fun. In response to this, we challenged our residents to have fun without using alcohol. Throughout the night we played a variety of drinking games with soda. Reluctantly, our residents admitted that they had had a good time proving that drinking is not a necessity to have fun, it's just an excuse.
Posted some #FoodForThought all around the first floor for my residents. I’m hoping it will STIMULATE their minds and give them that extra “umph” that they may need this semester.
