After many iterations (and like 7-10 weeks in procreate), here is my D&D assassin, Araxus Vi’Syrian.
I’ve made the mistake of drawing a random character. Two weeks later, I want to play this guy instead of my assassin. RIP.
Meet Raylen, half elf cleric of The Eternal Thunder.
I heavily referenced a cosplay of a Cleric from Elex, as I’m not good enough to draw full bodies without being able to look at/study something.
Working on digital . It’s been fun, but definitely a bit of a curve. I see many tutorials in my future. I’m still shit at beards, but at least they’re improving.
I’ve decided my new sketchbook is going to be focused on drawing figures since I’m feeling more comfortable with portraits. Here’s the first attempt that I don’t completely hate.
Older, but didn’t realize I never posted it. I revisited Arnumur, half orc paladin from our d&d campaign.
Slow, but steady progress.
Front page of my third sketchbook. Finally have a mixed media one, so I was able to experiment with ink markers and a water brush.
Random mini painting
From our d&d campaign. I found the image just too funny not to doodle.
After the party dealt with a den of manticores, they left the head on the doorstep of the guy that gave them the task. They couldn’t decide on what the note should say, so ended up just leaving the severed head with a number of notes attached to it.
Quickie (under 5 minutes) of a character while I was bored during training. Definitely not a pro, but at least I don’t take literal hours anymore to do these :p
First attempt at a facial profile. Definitely some issues with it, lol, but a first is a first.
My first attempt at 100% digital from start to finish. Not completely happy, but I don’t completely hate it.
This is my d&d character, Araxus Vi’Syrian.
I started to color it, but I realized that black and white could be cool. I gave it a go and damn. I actually really like how this turned out.
My assassin’s dagger - Ithil.
It’s just the flats, but I find I actually kind of like the simplicity of it.
After drawing 10 different versions of this character (for funsies), the player wanted a combination of two of the sketches. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try digital so I could Frankenstein my two sketches together and combine them in the line art.
Here’s my first totally complete portrait of a D&D character, made in Procrate!
The evolution of a character spanning 5 “drafts”.
I’m actually starting to feel good about my progress. I can really see the improvements!
Finally started diving into dnd character drawings.
This is an attempt at one of the characters in the campaign. It didn’t end up fitting the image the player had in mind buuuuuuut I like how it turned out regardless and might revisit it later.
