Okay swap Wanda -> Merlok, Monstrox -> Merlok So merlok is the petrified sibling, Wanda is the evil sibling and Monstrox is the digital mentor.
Wanda isn't a book -> rather she's another magical item that connects to Clay's magic without him being aware of it. (Claystro swap) She uses his own hidden magic mixed with her magic to manipulate his mental state during the graduation. This is done via mind manipulation and giving him painful headaches that blur out his vision.
Wanda could be .. a type of bracelet maybe, which then leads to her defeat in s2, allowing herself to transfer into Clay (it's weird but bare with me.) -> Clay can transfer magic into himself canonically, which means dark magic can make it's way into his systems.
S3-4 is primarily Clay trying to find the remainder of Wanda's magic that was stored away by Monstrox, unaware that he's being manipulated by his own mother.
For s1-2 all Clay needs to do is read the spell and it will easily transfer into the bracelet of.. magic? I don't know don't ask. Obviously the magic spells are the evil books, and Wanda's magic is the forbidden powers. NOW, about merlok.
Monstrox defeated both Magical siblings, or Moorington siblings.. as they would be. Turning merlok to stone to understand petrification and destroying Wanda because she was too far gone to save.
