is xyr pronounced like zeer
I’ve heard it pronounced both like “zeer” (rhymes with deer) and “zer” (rhymes with blur)! It’s usually best to ask the person who uses the pronouns.

i like xe/xem pronouns but i don’t like the xyr part? is there a substitute for the last part i could use?
The most common substitution I’ve seen is xe/xem/xir! On occasion I’ve also seen “xer” or “xis.”
With the 2021 Gender Census being open, I wanted to address something about neopronouns from the 2020 results page:
Are any of the neopronouns gaining ground in a way that competes with singular they? – No. This year the closest is “Xe – xe/xem/xyr/xyrs/xemself” (7.4%, compared to singular they’s 77.5%). Users of these neopronouns will probably not reach consensus for many years – language and especially pronouns as a closed class can be very slow to settle and gain ground. Even if one neopronoun does become very commonly used, many will continue to use other neopronouns for a long time to come.
I’m sure this is well-intentioned, but I wanted to clarify some things. People who use neopronouns aren’t trying to reach a consensus and choose one set of pronouns for everyone who doesn’t use he, she, or they. It’s pretty widely recognized that nonbinary isn’t one specific gender, it’s a spectrum of a lot of different genders (and there’s more still outside of the context of the Western gender binary). Nonbinary people’s pronouns are going to be as diverse as nonbinary genders. This is not an accident caused by language’s slow development, and homogeneity is not the goal.
Accidentally learned there’s a hotkey for posting by posting something that wasn’t done. 🤡 🤡 🤡 So how is everyone?
opening emergency commissions!
Long story short, my plans for surgery in march are falling apart. I need to completely pay for it by February 16, and I’m about 2,000 USD short. Commissions have been open, but now I’m lowering my prices. Any amount over 5 USD will be enough for me to draw you an icon at the very least, and I’m extremely flexible!
You can dm me here on tumblr, or i have an art instagram (astrometrix). Please reblog and boost this. I will also drop my ko-fi in the replies if you would like!
Having dysphoria doesn't mean that's proof you're "trans enough" because that means you're "more trans" than a nondysphoric trans person. Bad wording on your part.
I apologize, that was in my footnote to people “who feel inclined to argue” -- dysphoria is not an indicator of validity and I’m sorry if it sounded like I was implying that. What I meant is that people who think neopronouns harm “real trans people” generally also believe that dysphoria is the sole indicator of transness, so their rhetoric harms everyone, even the people they claim to be protecting if that makes sense ?
Hello. I came out as having neopronouns online, and while most people were supportive, some said that that conservatives use those to make to make fun of trans people. I said i didnt care what conservatives thought of me, and they said I was part of the ignorance and wasn't really helping make the world a better place. Is that true??? Am I hurting people by having neopronouns? I just don't get it. Am I being selfish by having them? I came to you since you're the neopronouns expert lol
You are absolutely not doing anything wrong by using your pronouns! Here's a quick breakdown of that thought process...
The idea that neopronouns fuel transphobia is a result of respectability politics. In short, respectability politics center around the idea that marginalized people should try to assimilate into mainstream culture as much as possible, and those who don't assimilate are responsible for the systemic oppression of that group. In this example, people who use neopronouns don’t fit into the mainstream culture that mainly recognizes he/him and she/her and sometimes they/them, and we get blamed for systemic transphobia because we’re an easy target.
In reality, we aren’t responsible for centuries of systemic transphobia. The only people responsible for transphobia are transphobes.
Personal note to anyone who feels inclined to argue about this: Being "one of the good ones" won't save you from systemic oppression. I spent several years of my life publicly identifying as a binary, gender-conforming trans person. Now I'm out as a nonbinary trans person and I use neopronouns. And before you decide I’m “not trans enough:” yes, I’ve suffered debilitating dysphoria, and yes I’ve medically transitioned and it saved my life. Pretending to be "one of the good ones" never protected me from transphobic harassment and violence.
I have a question! I don't understand what it means to have feminine/masculine neopronouns. I thought neopronouns are for if the person doesn't identify as a gender/biological gender? And how do you know if the neopronouns are masculine/feminine? I don't know how to explain my question :( I am learning about neopronouns! Please and thank you!
Correctly me if I'm wrong, but I think you might be trying to say "binary gender" (i.e. man or woman) instead of "biological gender!"
To answer your question:
Pronouns have gender connotations. We think of "he/him" as masculine, "she/her" as feminine, "they/them" as neutral or undefined, and ey, xe, fae, etc. as separate from the gender binary.
Gender is complex. Most people who use neopronouns are nonbinary and don't fit completely under the label of man or woman. Some of these people do have a partial connection to a binary gender, however. For example, someone who is partially but not completely male, or someone who is genderfluid and is sometimes a woman, etc.
Some neopronouns might resemble binary pronouns. Ve/vim/vis, for example, closely mirrors he/him with a different beginning letter. This doesn't mean that these pronouns are decidedly masculine, but a nonbinary person who identifies as masculine or partially male might connect with them because of their proximity to he/him. So it's mostly an individual experience of how somebody connects their pronouns with their gender. Some people have pronouns that are strongly attached to their internal sense of gender, and there are also others who use pronouns that don't "match" their gender.
I hope this helps!
so my sibling recently came out as enby (!!) and wants to use the pronouns fae/faer. im struggling with figuring out how to conjugate those pronouns, and was wondering if you have any tips/tricks/helpful things? thanks!!
This post should have what you’re looking for. Kudos to you for being supportive of your sibling and learning to use faer pronouns! ( ゚▽゚)/
personally my gender is more 💀fag💀 or even 🌋fag🌋
Absolutely superb! you’re epic anon
Shut up dumb✨ fag ✨
Good news, everyone! This ask is my new gender.
hey, sorry to bother but what exactly does the pronoun set fae/faer mean? i feel like they'd work for me, but now the internet is telling me stuff about identifying as fairies or non-humans and stuff, which doesn't apply to me at all and i am kind of very confused, do you know anything about that? and would I be able to use them while just id-ing as a cis or demigender person?
So fae/faer/faers was derived from the word “fae” but you don’t have to identify as nonhuman or anything like that to use them!
@ that anon who asked about feminine neopronouns, i personally use masculine pronouns but i got my pronouns by smashing some of my favorite sounds/letters together with he/him! so i really like using vi/vin/vis bc its similar to he/him but its got my favorite sounds in it("vee" and "in")! so if i were to do that to she/her i could do something like "vi/ver/vers" or "ni/ner/ners" or anything like that! It's honestly pretty fun to do haha
^^
are there any feminine neopronouns that you know of? Thank you!
I’ve seen people mix traditionally neutral pronouns with she/her! For example: shey/shem/sheirs/shemself
hi there :D so, i don't quite understand the emoji neopronouns. like, ive seen people use 💌 and stuff as a pronou n and im wondering how does that work???
This guide explains it really well, and I also have a post about it here!
someone told me that neopronouns could only be used by neurodivergent people, is this true ?
Nope, neopronouns can be used by anybody who identifies with them!
uhh how do these work in other languages? bc in spanish ofc pronouns work in a diff. way and when trying to literally translate them it sounds wrong n it doesnt make sense lol
Every language has a different structure for their pronouns, so most pronouns can’t directly translate from one language to another. There also isn’t traditionally a third-person neutral plural-turned-singular pronoun in Spanish (that I know of) that could directly translate to they/them in English, so this isn’t unique to neopronouns.
