post it brother we’re all weird looking down here
So on my posts about racism or transmisogyny, I often see tags that basically say “I don’t understand this but I’m going to reblog it anyway.” If you see a “social justice” type post that you want to reblog but don’t understand?
Don’t.
I know this goes against everything you’re used to hearing on this website, but listen. Reblogging posts you don’t understand is basically the equivalent of blindly repeating whatever you’re told. Even if you’re right, if you don’t understand why you’re right, you could be spouting utter bullshit and you wouldn’t even know it.
When I see “I don’t know what this means but I’m gonna reblog it anyway” it sends a lot of messages. It says that you care more about seeming right than being right. It says that you want good ally credit without any of the work of being a good ally. It says you’re on my side because I can make a post sound good, not because you actually agree with me on anything beyond the surface level.
So instead of just reblogging that post, save it for later. Like it, draft it, bookmark it, whatever. Go to the op’s blog and skim through a couple of pages, see if you can find some context. If the post is old, you could try asking for context in a non-condescending way. “Is this post referring to something specific?” is a lot better than, say, “Does this even happen? I’ve never heard of this.”
If that doesn’t help, do some more research. Google, search tumblr tags for recent posts on a subject, ask people who have EXPLICITLY stated they are willing to educate. Maybe in the process you’ll find more posts with a similar message to the original, but in easier to understand language. Maybe someone else already added a reply that adds useful information onto the op.
And maybe all of that takes a long time. Maybe, by the time you finally understand what the post was talking about, it’s months old and no longer relevant. Maybe you don’t even want to reblog it anymore. Who cares, fuck that post. You learned and grew as a person. That’s more important than looking good on a blog.

something I absolutely adore are the analog solutions people used to come up with for problems we now fix all from a single digital device or other advanced technology. Don't get me wrong, I love that we have and continue to progress in newer and fancier stuff to better our lives, but there's just something so charming about the ingenuity of working with what ya got, y'know?
I use Linux like a filthy casual, and that's okay.
*gives you a thumb drive with the latest fedora iso*
But seriously, it's okay to use Linux, even if you're not a tech person. Linux isn't any harder to use than Windows, you just have to care a little about how your computer works. I can do anything I want on Linux. Firefox is a great browser. I can play games on Steam. I use a Markdown app for distraction-free tabletop RPG writing. I can navigate the OS almost entirely by keyboard, which feels awesome.
You can be a casual user too.
*boots your computer from my thumb drive*
You know you can just try Linux if you want to. Just boot it from the thumb drive like I did. It won't even affect your Windows install this way. You don't have to especially hate being a Windows user to become a Linux user, you can just want to try something new. Remember when being on the computer used to be fun? You can have fun on the computer again. Just try it out for a while and if you don't like it that's okay. But if you do want to switch, I'm here to help.
honestly i use my laptop very casually too. I use Pop! with nearly all defaults and lately I've only used the terminal for ansible, scp and ssh. I have the skills to break and fix loads of things but my laptop is boring and that's good
I actually do think it’s better for abusers and abusive characters to realize the harm their past actions caused and seek to do better than be literally or metaphorically executed for their crimes

As a victim who does not feel validated at all by stories where the abuser is killed and kinda hates that people keep being super weird about alt takes on it thank you bcs it's pretty rough. Once saw a show have a moment that for the first time felt like it understood my perspective on what happened to me, and then logged on to see everyone in their mom insisting it was evil and bad rep and horrible and no victim would ever be validated by this obviously how dare you and like. Fuck! Guess I don't matter! It sucks so much. I'm not the perfect victim who wants to see all my abusers chopped up and thrown in a fire. I want the people to hurt me to realize it was wrong and change. I want them to apologize. There's been more than enough suffering, I won't wish it on them. Sorry if that makes me a bad survivor.

I keep thinking this! very frustrating

I received a suggestion to post this under virago tag so I'm posting uhhh
“hes a woman to me” IS HE? or are you equating women with submissive character traits you've arbitrarily put on a random man

A single google search links tons of sources showing that the scientific consensus is that brains are not dymorphically sexed, but rather are a mosaic of traits that don't fit the ridiculously bioessentialist and outdated pink/blue brain theory. I'm not debating facts, especially not ones that are so ridiculously easy to find with only a few clicks on a search engine.
