I'm kissing the sci-fi genre on the mouth, thank you sci-fi for helping my dad understand the concept of gender and sexuality beyond his cis, heteronormative views. Thank you sci-fi for helping my white father, a man who grew up in an apartheid, white privileged society understand how racism affects the people it is against and how it brainwashes people it uplifts. Thank you sci-fi for helping my father become the better, more open minded man that he is today

Speaking of my dad actually he is so cool and awesome, and gives brilliant ideas for robot characters.

For example I just asked him about some ideas for physical disabilities in robots and he gave me some PHENOMENAL ones:

Joints that get degraded over time that can't be replaced because they aren't made any more, either leading it to a mechanic that needs to try and make a part similar to the original OR welding the limb to the joint all together (limiting movement, and giving them the use of a cane/walker)

Messed up wiring that can cause parts to not work like normal if at all at times, OR SENSORY ISSUES (I loved that part)

Deep dents or scratches that cannot be undone without professional, expensive help

Prosthetics that don't match the original model at all

Batteries that get depleted quicker than normal (thanks to it being old or because of an underlying software issue) and forcing them to be near their charging station at all times

General wear and tear that doesn't get fixed because it is expensive

RUST CAUSING CHRONIC PAIN IN PANELS, WIRING AND JOINTS (oh beloved rust)

Memory issues because their hard-drive is getting full or because it is damaged in some way

VIRUSES THAT CANNOT BE UNDONE WITHOUT A TOTAL FACTORY RESET
