lottie was so real for asking shauna shipman to beat her up
The parallelism in The Long Game is just top tier. I feel like no one is talking about this enough.
Like,
The first ch opens with a Shane POV. He and Ilya are running together, and his obsessive brain is consumed with beating Ilya in the race. Ilya beats him.
In the third act, Shane is skating after Ilya in a break away with advancement in the playoffs hanging in the balance. They are racing again. Shane trips, and Ilya beats him.
2nd ch (the first section from Ilya's POV) opens with Ilya in a reocurring lucid dream in which he finds his mother's ghost in the hammock at the cottage. She is laying in a way that is reminiscent of the way she was when he found her dead. He calls for Shane to come out to meet her, but Shane never comes. As a mental health professional, I can say that this is an extremely accurate rendering of a dream brought on by PTSD.
In the resolution of the story, Shane finds Ilya resting in the hammock. Shane notes that he has never seen Ilya in the hammock before. Shane goes out to him.
Like, Idk how to fully express how beautiful this is. Because BOTH of these story lines have their own arch. But they also work together in creating a bigger, more complete picture.
Shane needs to let go of some of his obsessive control in terms of his career. He needs to catch up to Ilya, not as an athlete, but as a partner.
Ilya needs to communicate his needs in their relationship. He needs to process his trauma from the past. Because the way that he is pretending everything is fine, is faking it around Shane: that didn't come from no where. That's how he survived alone in his toxic family. But now, he needs realize he is not alone. He needs to invite Shane in and share his whole self.
In short:
Shane needs to get to Ilya.
Ilya needs to let Shane get to him.
dare is a shark in de vater
-ilya rozanov, heated rivalry
myshane is a shark because i think he would like having hyostylic jaw suspension…. #hisswingingjaw
noooo ilya stop my blowhole is too sensitive
eyeless
the immortal warrior marleau would be the biggest lobster in the sea
salmon shane using every BIT of his energy to where he is literally having his muscles torn apart crawling upstream because he will DIE for laying his eggs…. his sheggs if you will
ilyorca: here is fucking view, shorca, check it out, fuck
lowkey shane does kind of have the vibes of an orca trapped in sea world and forced to do tricks and live in a glass bowl
Everyone on the team talking to Marleau after Ilya's announcement about leaving Boston and they're like Cliff bro the fucks going on what's wrong why would Roz leave us for Ottawa you're his best bro guy friend man buddy bro you obviously know. And he's like yeah so Roz has been seeing this chick from Montreal for years they've been fucking since before we even won the Cup he's moving to Canada to lock it down. And they're like damn pussy so good got him blushing giggling and moving to another country. Too bad Hollander lives and plays for Montreal now Roz can't move there to be with his girl and gotta settle for loser ass fucking Ottawa two hours away from his Montreal Jane. Fucking Hollander standing in the way of true love.
I think the show really needs to use this idea for Ilyas explanation on why he is moving to Ottawa. Because everyone is seriously sooo confused why on earth he would do it. People would definitely ask him question and he would have to provide an answer. They need to address this plot hole in the show.
