What a day for a daydream 🎶
That little traveler hanging out on the passionflower petal is a Pied Shieldbug nymph (Tritomegas bicolor).
At this stage in its lifecycle (a mid-to-late stage nymph or "instar"), it sports that distinctive, rounded black body with the white and dark-mottled markings before it fully develops its adult wings. They are completely harmless to your passionflower—they usually prefer to hunt out dead-nettles and horehound nearby, but they love to wander into sunny garden spots during the summer.
It makes for a fantastic macro subject against the geometry of that petal!
The strange things we see along the river
The sun rests behind palm threads, a quiet geometry of light and leaf.
In this stillness, the world feels both near and infinite — a moment suspended between breath and horizon.
Canna lilies grow widely across Cape Verde’s coastal settlements, thriving in heat, salt air, and intermittent rainfall. Their orange blooms attract small pollinators, and their broad leaves are often used by residents as natural shade plants around homes and pathways. This photo records one of the many cultivated patches that blend ornamentation with practical landscaping across the islands.
Cape Verde: Fragments in MonochromeA quiet rhythm of everyday grace — hands at work, bodies at rest, faces carved from memory.
Between sea, stone, and shadow, these moments breathe the pulse of community and ancestry.
Each frame holds the same truth: beauty lives in the ordinary, and the ordinary is sacred.

There is an effortless, unhurried energy captured across these frames. That white plastic chair isn't positioned for a design magazine; it’s just placed where the shade happens to hit perfectly after an afternoon of turning over soil.
The makeshift raised timber beds and the hand-written "Caribbean Cucumbers" tag show a space where functionality and personal passion completely overtake the need for perfection.
An allotment is one of the few places left where things are allowed to just be—to weather, to grow, and to collect rain spots like the glass window without anyone rushing to clean it up. It’s a very grounding kind of quiet.
I find that the low-fi rendering of the digicam complements that relaxed vibe perfectly, stripping away the clinical sharpness of modern cameras to let the raw character of the plot come through.
