With the FCC vote to repeal Net Neutrality passed, it’s clear that we have lost this battle but our war isn’t over. There’s still hope and a chance to make it right.

If we lose it guys we’re not just getting charged for using the internet but were also losing these websites. But to be clear this is just what I’ve been informed on what could be lost. Key word is “could”.

The whole USA must know

Guys we have 18 states, Amazon and companies like Amazon sueing the FCC to help us in the fight to save net neutrality but we need to spread the word to every state like I said 18 states are sueing the FCC but we need all the help we can get check on my Tumblr I posted a blog about which states are fighting for net neutrality and if you are in one of states that is not fighting for net neutrality then you need to speak up and tell everyone that you know in your state we have to fight the FCC and Republicans the Republicans want net neutrality gone and you know because without net neutrality big time companies will get a lot more money than anyone and small business won’t last they’ll be forced to closed down there business and I fear if this goes all the way to our president I can’t imagine what he will do and he is Republican to and a business man so guts please a begging and asking you a favor at the same to help me and others like me to save net neutrality and please check on my Tumblr or the internet to see if your state is fighting to save net neutrality to some it all up we just need to work as a big team to save our net neutrality

Net Neutrality in Canada

So I’ve seen some posts on the issue of net neutrality being threatened in Canada, but very little information and sources on what is going on and what we can do about it. So, since I’m Canadian, I decided to go hunting for sources and information myself. I found the CRTC website (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission). On this website, I found some information on their support for net neutrality and their regulations of ISPs:

CRTC strengthens its commitment to net neutrality, consumer choice and free exchange of ideas by citizens

Framework for assessing the differential pricing practices of Internet service providers

Review of the Internet traffic management practices of Internet service providers (it’s from 2009 but still)

Strengthening net neutrality in Canada

Unfortunately the most recent of these was April 20th 2017, so I haven’t been able to find anything on the proposal by Bell pushing for tougher regulations on piracy being added to NAFTA. This sounds like it’s not a big deal, but Bell has been pushing for this to happen behind closed doors, without much public knowledge. If that sounds super sketchy, that’s because it is. Here’s why:

Net neutrality because you need to apply for a job, apply for medical insurance, talk to your doctor, or access medical information. Because thats how I accesed my medical information after I went to the emergency room last month. Its how I got my new prescription last week.

Net neutrality because you need to compare schools for you, or for your kids. Transfering schools already involves a fee, so why pay more to access learning? Also sometimes you have to file online for graduation because it takes my school a week longer to submit, scan, file, and assess paper document submissions. You should know ahead of time that you child isn’t going to go to a place thats safe, and the employees are given background checks.

Net neutrality because its your only way of accessing job listings that aren’t big or small businesses. My friend found a job at the local factory through an agency, and its not a small buisness or giant corporation, most of which have their jobs listed on their websites.

Net neutrality because you need to check your tax records. To make sure your accountant files everything, and you don’t discover they’re irresponsible when you try and buy a car 10 years later and you’re denied because a debt settlement hasn’t been updated because they never filed it.

Net neutrality because your a student and you 🌸need👍to🍍file😭 your🙏fafsa.

Okay so this is really great because I didn’t know of any alternative to calling and I get anxious calling people bUt this thing called ResistBot will fax messages to your senators/representatives/governor for free but you can just text “RESIST” to 50409 to get started and it’ll tell you how it works. When it gets to the part where you have to write a message you can either write your own or send this (and edit it if you want, I’m the one who wrote it so it’s not the best)

As both a student and someone who follows current events, it is of importance to me to have unrestricted access to sites that keep me informed. Please everyone, take a minute and spread awareness for Net Neutrality in Canada. These telecom companies are the absolute worst. They give you TV channels for years and then “take it away”(without your contract changing), they hike up the price of cellphone contracts(along with Apple geofixing products that, even with the exchange rate are $100 cheaper in the USA). These things are so necessary in today’s world, but have become so inflated and expensive it isn’t feasible. Can you imagine paying $200 for a cellphone, as well as $70/month for the newest iPhone/Samsung? Canadians are paying some of the highest rates worldwide for cellular, television and Internet contracts by these companies, and now they want to make it even more expensive.

have access to a community of people who accept them (for example lgbtq+ people who don’t have accepting parents could be in danger) (ISPs would have the option to make websites slower if they don’t agree with the content)

watch content creators on the internet (more specifically smaller creators

have a platform to protest/voice their opinion and be heard (this relates to point one)
