Become a 2016 CodeForAmerica Fellow
Do what you love and make government work
Are you a developer, designer, researcher, or project manager who wants to fix things that really matter? Code for America is seeking a new cohort of fellows for our 2016 Fellowship class.
The Fellowship program puts together teams of digital professionals who work with local governments over the course of a year. Â Together, they develop digital tools that help cities and counties deliver key public services across health, economic development, and safety and justice.
The fellowship is your chance to use your skills to directly impact everyday people’s lives. Fellows have improved the permitting processes for small business owners, made it easy for parents to enroll their children in schools, connected families with food assistance, and helped people avoid unnecessary bench warrants.
Modern technology tools and approaches can foster collaboration and build trust while helping cities better address the challenges they face. If you want to make a difference while doing what you love, this is your chance — use your skills to build technology that helps local governments work better for the communities that they serve.
Fellows and government staff work together to foster new approaches to problem solving, build apps, adopt new practices, and improve operations by effectively using technology and data to address social issues. In past years, teams have worked on increasing access to social services, exploring alternatives to incarceration, and providing new avenues for public input. Â
Fellows come from a variety of backgrounds in technology. Some come from large, well-known tech companies or startup environments, while others have experience working in government or social impact organizations. All of our fellows have a creative, entrepreneurial spirit and are passionate about the work that they do. All fellows receive a $50K stipend to support their time as a fellow, as well as full benefits and educational loan deferment.
